  • This is my short review on long exposure and night photography with the new Hasselblad X2D. I tested night photography with two new lenses on the X2D, the Hasselblad XCD 2.5/38V and the Hasselblad XCD 2.5/55V.
    Watch in 4K to see the video in reasonable resolution.
    Content:
    00:00 Introduction
    00:40 Shooting both new lenses: XCD 2.5/38V and XCD 2.5/55V
    01:13 Exposure control on the Hasselblad X2D
    01:45 Manual mode on the X2D still has no Auto ISO setting
    02:44 Shutter speed control, leaf shutter and long exposures
    04:12 Game plan for live shooting
    04:51 Sample images shot at night with long exposure times
    10:48 Conclusions

    Great content man!
    Just wondering if you still have the H6D-100c, would you be able to do a side to side comparison with the X2D for portraits? I'm not sure if you have the normal XH adapter so you could use one lens for the test but I just wanna know if there's still an advantage with the bigger sensor of the H6D in terms of depth of field to achieve that so called "Medium Format" look. I would also be quite interested to see if the 0,8 XH speed boster adapter would help the X2D's smaller sensor to achieve the look of the Full-Medium Format sensor of the H6D if there is still a noticeable difference. It would be nice to see a shot from the same distance and an "adjusted" framing to match the difference in focal length conversion. Looking forward to seeing the results if ever you're able to do one.

    Do you see hot pixels when you use magnified live view? I see quite a few on mine (probably around 50-100) even in not very dark environments. Also, when I take a photo even with ISO64 and short exposure (1/10s or faster) I can see them when viewing in gallery but only when you double tap to go 100% and before the full resolution image is loaded - after that they are gone. Phocus also removes them. So it doesn’t seem to affect the final images, but it is distracting when focusing.
    Looking at long exposures on my 9 year old Nikon I see only two hot pixels across 24Mp sensor (if I don’t use any hot pixel corrections) 🤔

    • @eastgreenlander5016
      @eastgreenlander5016 Рік тому

      @@mathphotographer thanks for taking the time to read and to answer. I respectfully disagree. Depth of field does not apply at long distances, as in these wonderful test images, and even with the larger sensor. It would if you had a subject in the foreground and land-/ cityscape in the background. Your subjects in all of your images are far away. But you get maximum quality at F11, which is good. Only purpose to shoot wide open is to see the performance of the lens/ lenses. I once owned the Leica S2 and a couple of Leica summarit lenses which performed perfectly wide open for night shoots.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Рік тому +1

      @@eastgreenlander5016 Thanks - good point. Having said that, I made it a habit to shoot landscape stopped down a bit. Most lenses have their sweet spot in terms of aperture if you read the MTF curves of the lens. Leica-M lenses for instance often have their sweet spot at an f/5.6 - means when you stop down to f/5.6 you get the best out of the lens in terms of sharpness and contrast. But you are right, that's independent of DoF.
