Don’t worry snails. A magic eraser (melamine sponge) is totally safe. Wipe the algae and wring out the eraser into the water for the mussels to feed. Perhaps even start a culture of micro algae. I cultured many many gallons of saltwater phyto in plastic bags. I used a suspended ring and rubber band to hold up the bag, airline through the top and slowly bubble (no air stone). F2 fertilizer is great stuff. Treat it like any other culture, clean.
What were the initial struggles you had in figuring out what they needed? Was it specific to temperature or pH, or something else? I'm looking into getting some freshwater shellfish for a pond setup (indoors, can easily control larger environment) but haven't found much information on the specifics of what they need regarding water conditions. I assume pH is important for their development due to the calcium in their shells, and I know as filter feeders you actually wouldn't want the water to be too clean. But do you know any details on their hardiness to various nutrients or other elements found in a typical pond or freshwater tank setup? Would really appreciate anything you've learned thus far
Take that crap out of there and put some washed natural sand in, not from an aquarium store. They shouldn't be lying on the surface and the shells will erode that way, only the siphon end should be sticking out of the sand. Colder water makes better pearls, so does actual sand.
Very cool project! We just got our Brain Lube and Alchemize. Thanks for being an awesome person and more so, an inspiring human being.

I see you’ve already posted about spirulina! You’re on it!

They thrive in trash water. Either add a ton of fish or green water or both.
where do you get these mussels?
The beach
How many gallons is that tank??
Love channel doing real science 👍
