To anyone considering this, that "Hand pump" he got from a homebrew supply store is meant as a gravity siphon. You don't have to hand pump constantly if your origin vessel is at a higher elevation than the destination vessel. Pump it once, get the siphon going and you can pretty much walk away.
@@ramonanettles2329Using another (finer) filter at the pick up, that would probably cause a clog. since the filter/screen/mesh is after pickup and there isnt supposed to be any other deposits then it most likely wouldnt help.

Two questions: 1) Simplifying the growing media to Water, Baking Soda, MaxiGro and Sea Minerals - have you calculated the makeup of the non-water components per mass of wet harvest (or maybe dry harvest)? In other words, if one were to re-use the water after harvesting X lbs of wet spirulina as strained through a 30 micron mesh, what would be the quantities of baking soda, maxigro and sea minerals one would top off that solution with to continue the next generation? 2) Where did you source the 30 micron mesh... the internet does not want me to find your source.

Or once frozen, spirulina dies even if it retains all its nutritional properties ?? What is the minimum and maximum temperature at which spirulina can survive ?? Please give us an answer if you can.

awesome vid... by any chance, do you happen to know the dry weight of bio mass you managed to accumulate within that timeframe do you? That would be very interesting to know.
Spirulina harvesting is amazing. 1 gram of dried spirulina equates to 1 kilogram of fresh fruits / veggies when it comes to vitamines (including B12) and minerals. Also high on amino acids and fatty acids. A superfood to say the least.
A question! Would it be better to use filtered spring water instead of reverse osmosis water? RO-water pulls out minerals etc from the body when you drink it. Does the same thing happen to the algae?
b12 analogue i believe, competes for the site so it is detrimental for vegans heading toward pernicious anemia, unfortunately.. doesnt mean you can have it, just dont supplement b12 at the same time
You mentioned a biodigester as a nutrient source. Is there a risk of contamination? Do you have to use specific feed stock for the biodigester? Specifically, a biodigester is commonly used for sewerage treatment and I would guess that makes the digestate unsafe for use in a spirulina farm.
Yes interesting comment. The heat inside the bio bag is over 70° and adding good bacteria would make the digester brake down the poo, but enough to kill pathogens?. I don't know.
Question, please help: I can’t get my PH above 7.5. I’m using purified drinking water and baking soda. I read that baking soda will not get a waters PH any higher than 8.5. It went from a 7.8 (out of the bottle) to a 7.5 (after adding baking soda) how do I get my PH to 10 so I can introduce my spiraling culture I ordered! Please help. Thanks
spirulina will rise up the Ph constantly over time by eating the CO2 in the pool. if you dont have time or you're concerned about Ph choc ou can add somme NaCO3 at the beggining. to me NaHCo3 is enough as you said, to rise PH to 8,5, if he doesn't, maybe it's because your water is realy full of limestone (sorry for my english hope it helped you)
