    They made 500 of each year, 3 years 2002, 2003, 2004. Just enough to race them. Love my octane.

      Awesome ! Thanks for the info. I assume the International Jet Sports Boating Association required 500 as a minimum production same as they do for other race sports like rally cars. How long have you owned it? Have you done any mods to yours? How do you feel about the handling? Sorry for all the questions.. I'm just really curious.

      I've never ridden wakes anything close to that big... It scares me just to see others doing it in videos... Seems pretty crazy ! Just riding and not jumping must be pretty intimidating, at least until you get used to it... I think at the largest I may have ridden 3 foot wakes in a storm... but my ski had a hard time to get any air at that point as it was underpowered.

      I agree. It's too bad they didn't stick with it. I worked on them back in the late 90s early 00s (at a dealership) along with their snowmobiles. Would have been interesting to see what they produced.

    My 2004 was pretty good. It turns like a square nose superjet. I had tubbies on it and the hook up was the best of any stand up i rode. I just turns pretty flat and when the back grabs hard you go flying !!!

      Buy a superjet or sxr800. The octane is a difficult ski tonrepair when something gets wrong. Took 12month finding wnginemparts to rebuild it after the crank decided to explode😢. But it was a 58 mph ski almost stock.

      @@jerl.980 Yeah... A month ago I got to ride a stock 701 Superjet and a Superjet with an 1100 Kawasaki in it, and I want one now. So good. My buddy BJ had a SXR 800 I rode a few times and another buddy just picked one up earlier this year. I like them, but not as much as the SJ.

    • @jerl.980
      @jerl.980 Рік тому +1

      Depends what is your goal what you will do with the ski. A 701 superjet with a factory pipe rejet carb and put primer, mod the cdi for higher rpm cut off, repitch impeller and if you want a high compression head, lighter fly wheel.All the power you will need really in a light package. I rode a race sxr1100 and was not impressed. It is all mid to top end and very nose heavy.

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  Рік тому

      @@jerl.980 I don't have a lot of experience on stand up skis, and I have never raced or plan on racing. My judgement of the 1100 Superjet was based on how it felt a little more planted than the 701, and I love the sound.
      I get that most people are more interested in actual performance that can be measured and verified, but personally, I just like messing with things, testing till failure and messing with them more. I have very little interested in following a proven recipe or bolting on performance parts. I fully understand that there are proven ways to make a ski work better and tens of thousands of R&D hours ... Not sure if you have seen any of my 1100 videos, but this year I machined out an OEM head and made my own billet domes on my manual lathe.
      My X2 works really good (when it works) but I have no delusions that it is the fastest or best engine build. The truth is that I enjoy working on it as much or more than I enjoy riding it 🤟

    I had one some years back, was one of the best all around skis I had. Now wish I never sold it. They had their share of issues. I replaced elect box.and put electrics in a kawi 750 box. The issue of tray foam getting wet from leaks,ii removed all orig foam sealed and added drains along with new closed cell foam on top of a layer of ping pong balls in bottom of tray area. As well as rear/front footholds and shortened the pole -2", Ski handled well with set of tubbies and am intake grate, Def rode more flat then a sj,sxr,or even current superfreak I ride, Wish I still had it though..👍

      I guess when Polaris made that throttle, they weren't thinking that some crazy Canadian was going to kick it off ! haha. It's quite challenging to ride a stand up. Not all of them are as tricky as the Octane, and you don't have to ride them wide open, haha. I've got some footage of me riding some other stand up skis that I will be posting eventually. I think you will see that I got better at it and some skis are easier to ride.

    That octane slammed you a few times. Reminds me of when I was riding the SeaRat against the dasa swap ski and got slammed multiple times haha. It’s not like it’s the worst thing but it isn’t fun either. So yeah I can see how that ski seems like it’s trying to get you.

    Hey Joel can you put sponsors on the stand up ski, the octane ski , as that may change the handling of the ski,,. Cheers mate, just wondering

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  2 роки тому

      Yes, you can put sponsons on a stand up, and people do. From what I understand, the issue with the Octane is that the rear of the ski doesn't sink into the water far enough, so even tho they do install sponsons, they don't cut in very deep. There a cool video of a modified Octane that is a old race ski and they show some of the mods they have done to make it turn. I will post the link to the video.

    Can't believe that stock yamaha grate performed better than that Jet Dynamics but sometimes different things just work despite conventional wisdom and this may be one of those times!

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  2 роки тому +2

      Apparently these hulls have issues with the rear of the ski not sinking into the water and that makes them not corner well. People have tried all sorts of things to get them to work well and many just say that it doesn't corner. I seen one that actually had rudders installed as well as the steering nozzle. It is possible that this grate allows it to sit in the water better... tho that would be counter intuitive to me.

    • @Jacobskibros
      @Jacobskibros 2 роки тому +2

      It's probably worse for hook up in the rough, but the trade off is that you can lean it over now. I am the only person I know that likes the stock intake grate on the superjet as well. I just like how they turn better that way.

      @@Jacobskibros I have a full mod square nose with a modified Jet Dynamics top loader. It rear scoop was lowered to 12mm below bottom of the hull (IJSBA legal limit at the time) and the front scoop at 6mm. But in racing when its super choppy when you have plenty of power, you want as much hook up as you can possibly get. Plus the added braking helps when you let off the gas going into a corner. So was just interesting what you found to work on that ski. Jacob, you riding style is almost identical to me, even riding goofy foot and all! You even shred on the 550s as well!
