Found this channel while looking for an instructional video for installing a Kenwood receiver (BT282U, $99 from Crutchfield, no association) in my 2007 4Runner Limited. Overall, very clear description of steps, especially the specific tips for each of the clips and their location/function, made it straightforward for me to follow and complete my radio installation in one try. Subscribed.

"OK, we're almost to the point of getting to the radio. Next, pull straight up on both headrests, depressing the lock tabs, and set those aside. Now Scotty's just gonna get that spare tire out of there. A-a-a-nd next comes the air cleaner housing, both front seats, and surprisingly the left headlight assembly. Now the final two mounting screws, the 3 wiring connectors, the 2 antenna leads. And you've now removed the 4th gen Toyota 4Runner radio. Unfortunately, the new one has just arrived, and uh-oh Scotty, they've sent us the wrong radio! Son of a gun. You're gonna have to re-install all these items, and we'll do the radio swap out next week. Scotty? What are you doing with the big shop hammer there, guy? Scotty, ow, OW, stop it Scotty! Ouch!"
Neither worker was ever seen again. Authorities suspect foul play...

It does seem like a lot of pieces to remove, but it's really incredibly simple to do

This made the stereo replacement in my 07 4Runner a piece of cake. Great video!

Superb video. I added a bluetooth module to my 2003 4Runner and this made it dead simple. It seems like a lot of parts to remove and put back together, but it's so easy. The Toyota plastics and fasteners of that era are of such high quality and fit together so well that it's trivially easy to do it without breaking anything. I once tried a similar thing on a BMW and I broke tabs off several of the fragile plastic pieces!!

Thank you for taking the time to film , explain and publish this video.
I just changed my 4wd switch with the help this video . It took about 20 minutes..
It would have taken much longer and possibly broke some broken pieces if I had started this blind.👍

This was incredible. I can’t believe I just did that in 30 mins without breaking anything.

Great video! This was very helpful. It felt like something was going to break when pulling on the plastic but it actually works.

With the trim you removed, could you see any of the HVAC actuators? I need to repair or replace an actuator, and hoping I don’t have to pull the entire dash off. Thanks, your vid might save me a bucket.

I have the 2007 stereo system that has the factory DVD player....do you happen to know if the DVD player will still play through my car speakers if I upgrade? The DVD can be accessed by a button on the stereo, as well as the steering wheel.

There was a service bulletin on 2004 4Runner dashboards. Check with your dealer, got mine replaced for free. It took about a year for them to get the part

Well I guess America did one thing better than Toyota.... being able to just pull the damn stereo out. But great vid. I just picked up an 05 that needs temp control lights and steel replaced. This will be my go to!

exactly what i was thinking! some stereos just need a couple metal hangers to poke into holes on the side to release the stereo and pop it out on sliders. this is ridiculous to have to take your center and front console apart! was wanting to do this for my '07 for something nicer looking but eff it.. not worth the wasted time. maybe if it ever fails... lol

The front face panel is stuck on the driver’s side near the bottom- it’s like there are extra clips or a screw not covered in this video

Question when you replace the stereo unit will the volume buttons still work on the strating wheel? Thanks.

You have to make sure that the new radio has an adapter to connect the stock wiring from your steering wheel to your new deck. Most modern radios come with the adapter, but be sure and check before purchasing. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Anyone know if a 2009 radio unit will work on a 2004 4runner? They look almost the same except the cassette slot is gone which is what i want. it looks ancient with it.

I’m purchasing a 2006, what radio would you recommend that is able to connect to my iPhone for music?

    • @ScottsGarage
      @ScottsGarage  4 роки тому +1

You can connect your iPhone to your radio using any radio that has bluetooth. The best radios are those that have Apple Play, that way you can use your apps right on the radio screen.

If you like the look of the OEM radio, you can just add a Bluetooth module (such as www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0178G5RRE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1, which is the one I installed) to allow hands-free calling and streaming audio. Worked perfectly for me (2003 4Runner w/JBL radio) and personally I think that's a way cooler way to go than adding an aftermarket stereo.

    A major PIA.
    Way too many steps.
Not for the average person. That's why car places charge you a fortune.
