- I say its the Best Low cost Basher @ $150 that can take a beating & bounce back like a champ. They use 3 separate Differentials. The center diff really makes a difference on high speed corners and rock bashing. These have a separate ESC/Receiver you can upgrade with ease. My upgrades include 120mm wheels and 15mm wide Hub Extenders that gives the rig a wider stance for awesome corner and speed stability.
Parts I used were bought at Amazon
120mm Tires:
( RC Station 12mm Hex RC Wheels and Tires 1/10 Scale RC Truck Tires and Wheels for Traxxas Rustler Stampede Hoss E-Revo Redcat Volcano EPX Tires and Wheels Pre-glued with Foam Inserts
15mm Hub Extenders:
( 12mm Hex Extension Adapter Brass Wheel Hex Hubs Spacers for 1/10 RC Crawler Axial SCX10 90046 D90 Redcat Gen 8 V2 Gen7 pro,
Stock Shocks are 80mm and stock tires are 98mm
This car seem like a real good deal! My opinion is that HBX is a real decent brand. Cheap, but pretty durable and spares are easy to get hold of.
So far so good, broke 1 dog bone on a bad crash... that's it... its been clocked at 40 in the dirt and 35 in the grass. I did modify the battery to handle a 2200mA 3S 50C and it helps.

Very nice. I never thought of doubling up the rear shocks. I sure will check it out now. Thanks for the content 👍
Got that truck a couple month's ago. Great truck.
my unit has taken a beating and still has not broken anything.... WOW nice right
Urgenex 3s 2200mah drop in tray as well. Still can use factory strap 👊🏻great vid
"Thanks" I was able to test the Urgenex against a larger OVONIC 3S 50C 2200mAh 11.1V Lipo and the larger battery made a big difference, it now pops a wheelie mid stride, never did that with a shorty 3S. So I modified the battery compartment to handle the 4.2 inch battery, that left enough room for the servo arm.
I did modify the battery tray to hold a 2200mA 50C 3S battery, it did make a difference
Links to the 125mm Tire set, Good tires that are well balanced, no offset sidewall and they come "Pre-Glugged". www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B15118QL Now these Tires are Extra Wide at 68mm look awesome & I really like these, it gives them that Hot Wheels look LOL but maybe a 112x45mm tire would be better? at least in the grass.
I wound up modifying the battery try, to hold a 2200mA 3S battery, its a 50C Ovonics and fits like a glove. Make sure you put in a block to stop the battery from moving forward and taking out the servo arm
I love the hbx cars because mine hardly break so far . They come with a 90 day parts warranty so for theee months if something breaks they’ll send the parts . They treated me very well . I’m a fan of hbx becasue they treated me good and let me return a 16980sa I trashed into a stop sign and broke the chassis . So I got another one anyways so we could have some race action going . Then I ordered a rlaarlo cf Omni terminator and while waiting for that a hobby shop was closing in my area and I snagged a Kraton 6s which has broken after 5 runs , lol . Servo or esc . Also , the front drive shaft isn’t straight and I ve hardly ran it over anything except a parking lot and grass and a cpl small jumps . I’m in the air on arrma cars now .this one is next for sure . Hbx treated me good and their cars are reliable for me so far
Dang good deal at $150 Ready to Run
where can I get one ? i can't find it on banggood or AliExpress
Right, I see the 2996A on those sights, the 2997A is sold at Amazon in the states. The 2996A is good just make sure you get the Alpha version as those are Brushless. PS... I have seen the 2996A on sale for $130 on Aliexpress
How hot does the motor get with the bigger wheels
So right now 2/23/24 you can get the HBX 2996A for $105 & $30 shipping Make sure you get the "A" alpha version, as that has the brushless motor upgrade. The 2996A is good, some weaker parts but same design www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806299819206
I wound up moding the battery compartment to handle a larger 50C battery and it made a difference, it now pops wheelies mid stride. I found a 4.2 inch battery is about max to not interfere with the servo arm. This is what i used. www.amazon.com/Battery-Dean-Style-Connector-Parkzone-Airplane/dp/B077P73SDS
These tires are nice and built "Tough" but it depends on the surface your running on, I deal with a lot of grass so I needed a little less grip. Something like these tires below with that knowledge They are also a little thinner. seen here for $25
