An Em pentatonic scale is a G major scale. The E is the relative minor to G just as A is to C etc, count down 4 notes to the minor from the root. But Major scale requires changing scale shape when changing chords. Play like Dickey Betts and you will get it. Good luck

Math guy here, I know this will maybe go over most people's heads but it's really fascinating and I encourage you to read into it. There is a very good reason why the blue note is the one it is, it's more than just deliberately out of tune, it's about as "out of tune" as it's possible for a note to be. The blue note is the tritone in a minor context and the tritone has a unique property. You see the basic reason why two notes harmonise and sound nice together is because their frequencies are related by a simple ratio. For example a perfect fifth is actually a ratio of 3:2, i.e. in a perfect world (12 tone equal temperament is not generally perfect) the frequency of G2 is exactly 3/2 or 1.5x the frequency of C2. Note that an octave is precisely double the frequency, so C3 = 2 x C2... a nice ratio between notes leads to a nice resonance, the sound waves interfere in a quickly repeating signal and it sounds good to us. A perfect fourth is 4/3. So nice simple ratios give is nice harmonizing chords. Now what about the tritone? Well, that's different. You see 12-TET is a practical approximation of reality that allows us to transpose melodies but assuring that each two successive notes are the same ratio apart (e.g. C to C#, or Gb to G). This is not really true in the world of "just intervals" which is kind of the basis for music. It turns out that the tritone is a completely "fake" note, it doesn't align with any nice ratio. In fact, it happens to be equal to the square root of 2, a well known irrational number. This is for good reason, the tritone is "half way" to an octave, that is, 2 successive tritones (flat 5ths) will be an octave. But remember frequencies don't add, they multiply, so it's not half of 2, its the square root. Anyway, that's why the tritone sounds so particularly disharmonious, it's literally as out of tune as a note can be, in a strict mathematical sense, and that in itself seems to make the note interesting to us. Funnily enough, it might never have existed in pop culture if not for 12-TET, which just happens to us an even number of notes per octave (there are other choices, even 17) and this means it splits the octave perfectly in half, and so the tritone lands PERFECTLY (none of the other notes are perfect) on root 2.

I'm close to age 52 and I wanted to be a guitar player as long as I can think of. But I never really made it much further then smoke on the water because in my teen ages I always opted for the shortcut. After watching your "Music Theorie" series on YT a couple of weeks ago, I took our old children's guitar from the attic and started playing and exploring as suggested because your explanations already making sense to me! About Eleven days ago, I signed for your beginners course and it's simply wow! The main reason, that I'm quite confident to get it right this time, is your unique way of explaining and talking! Mixolydian. The 5th mode of the diatonic scale. The notes are the same as the major scale but with a flat 7
for example C ionian or c major is
      C D E F G A B C
      C mixolydian is
      C D E F G A Bb C

Entering the 4 and 5 chord, target a chord tone or arpeggio licks ( or even the major blues scales of those chords) then go into the minor blues scale of the 1 chord as the chord changes.

THIS RIGHT HERE is golden information! I studied guitar for YEARS, my major in college, made a living for just over a decade playing out, and yet always felt like "I just don't get it I guess" when it came to blues and blues-rock (and that's a bad, BAD thing when you're a Texan!).... If only someone would have pointed this stuff out, in such a clear and concise way as done here....
    Dank u zeer

Is he ok? We were pounding Mickys and grinding the coping of a pool when stone broke and teeth flew just as the cops came crashing in, I realize this isn't information a father likes to hear, but... he grabbed the board and spun DNA everywhere and stuck it in the deep end. That was the last I heard tale of Hex. You kids out there will never know what it was like back when sk8ting was a crime, not a sport. well i guess i'll fall back inta diminsiona from my own head tramau just stick that other note in there and younl be jus fine. Loosin a good friend ain' gota be all bad specially when evading the coppers.

I like that you talk. I certainly don’t just want to watch someone jam, and not explain the how and why of how the fret board works. I take lessons in Delaware, when my teacher talks... I listen. Because everything he told me has helped me get better.

Hey Paul. My Brain has a knack for picking patterns, & the Guitar, as you'd know, us a series of beautiful patterns. I'd deduced what this video was about when I was 15, & ever since playing leads has always been ab Improvised Solace that I can not live without. It took me another 10 years to realise that what I understood & did on the guitar, was not as readily accessible to the large majority of Guitarists, no matter how sincere they were in their efforts to understand & perform Lead Guitar. You do a a Great Job of Articulating your ideas with a lot of crucial information, but don't overindulge or flood the audience with frivolous details, & thus muddying the waters allowing the message to be lost or misunderstood. I respect your knowledge of Guitar & theory, your passion for passing your gift onto others, & your intense intellect which you've put to great use.

Or A major blues. But on the final bar of a 12 bar blues it will normally return to the 5 chord where you can play the A minor scale over this to create tension before resolving back to the the A major scale

A very good scale to use over the V chord is the V in minor pentatonic. So, say you're in a blues in A, the V chord is the E(7), you would play Em pentatonic over it.
