      Thanks but most of the credit belongs to the wood. Beautiful stuff.

    Beautiful bowls! I have found that using sanding sealer before the CA prevents staining, which helps a lot!

    • @bowlreveal
      @bowlreveal  Рік тому +1

      I will give this a try does the sanded sealer stop the CA from getting into the seam?

      @@bowlreveal not at all! Never had a problem with that not holding. I have a video out tomorrow morning where I use the black CA from Starbond after the sanding sealer on some pretty big cracks, and it works perfectly every time.

    Beautiful bowls from your burl, very nicely done.
    I've recently been given a large piece of wood from a fallen tree, I think it might be English Oak. I've removed the loose bark and it's revealed some very spikey wood.
    I'm not sure of the best way to proceed at the moment, I'm new to woodturning and I don't want to process it wrong. Time will tell.
    All the best from North Yorkshire.

      Always nice to have new woods. When you say spikey would that mean soft spots like punky wood. A lot of times super glue will stabilize the wood. A picture would help send to klworral@gmail.com I’ll take a look, see what you have. I had a piece of Oak that had ambrosia in it. A lot of large bugs. But absolutely beautiful wood. All the best from Central Florida

    What kind of oil or treatment do you put on the wood once they’re turned and sanded? I’m new to turning and not sure what to use. Thanks

      I’ve tried many different finished. 90% of my bowls I do with 2 coats of Tung oil finish. Let completely dry then buff on the lathe. Love the finish takes longer but last long. Tung oil finish is tung oil diluted 25% with minerals spirits. I also tried pure tung oil takes way too long to dry. My go to is tung oil finish. Have also used walnut oil, just paste wax, Yorkshire grit $$, Boiled linseed-denatured alcohol-clear shellac friction polish. Didn’t like the finish. I now buy 100% tung oil then mix it with 25% mineral spirits. Cheaper that way.

      You can go up to 40% mineral spirits dries quicker.

    heh, watching this I'm wondering how well that bowl saver works towards the end to let you know its done. Bet that takes some practice. Then immediately the small bowl goes flying. That sounds about what I'd expect to happen to me.

      Actually done over 100 bowls from center saver first time that happened. Don’t know if it was because it was a burl and the grain is different. Usually you can hear change sound as you come close to the center point. Oops

  • @bowlreveal

    Actually I’ve done over 100 bowls with the center saver. I’m thinking the grain in the burl didn’t give me the sound change I was use to. Usually you can hear it change in sound when nearing the center.
