I think this has a perfect "hopeful" tone, since when you get the airship it means you're about to launch (what you think is) the final assault against the Empire. This is the music that means the end of a journey.
There is a hack of Final Fantasy 1, "Final Fantasy Restored", which includes Boss, Fiend Boss and Final Boss music added to the NES version from future versions. I do hope for hack for Final Fantasy 2, which would have Battle Theme B for minor bosses, and Unused Battle Theme 3 for final boss, Unused Dungeon music for Mysidian Cave and some other dungeons, and Airship Theme. It would make this game complete ^_^
