Saw another vid where a researcher said these fish are such gluttons that they get fatty liver disease. Contrast that to the major inshore predator on the Northeast Atlantic coast, the striped bass. These fish will forage and when they have a full stomach they'll be dormant for several days. That's for the larger ones; the small ones school and feed regularly. Bigger ones become territorial and only move with the tide and when forage becomes scarce. But, they grow slowly and they don't overeat. They only put on weight when it's time to migrate south. That's why fall fishing generally picks up; colder water stimulates the feeding activity.

Was it the CNN video? Yea, something I think is boosting their metabolism in their invasive habitat.

Natural predators in the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea that are known to eat lionfish include sharks, cornetfish, grouper, large eels, frogfish and other scorpionfish. There is speculation that large snapper and some species of trigger fish eat lionfish in their native ranges as well.

Oi! One of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time! NO 'bugs' (so-called copyguards), and using BOTH the Imperial measurement system AND THE METRIC! I am from Europe where the Metric system is used as indeed about 98% of the planet.
As a surfer, I have a concern especially the eastern part of the Atlantic as Portugal has a vast majority of access to the sea (surfing here is first class!, the world record wave was over EIGHT metres at Nazaré!) I am a bit cincerned about Peixe-Leão (Por. Lionfish) invading the west coast of Portugal and Galego to the north on the Iberian Pennsula. Is it still safe to be in the water surfing ,or even just plain swimming? if this Lionfish problem reaches the west coast of Europe as well. I am deeply concerned. I don't want my surfing days to laps into history! This should be addressed and monitored as well. Obligado!

This report is 'ancient' . Lionfish fillets are USD 20 per pound in Whole Foods here in Boca Raton (3 15 18). Next they will be growing them out to fatten them up, There are few species that are successful without a huge investment. Snapper, pompano, etc. These lion fish breed like minks and would probably eat some readily available "feed" like the mullet that migrate through the Keys, that have little value once the roe is removed. The 'sky is NOT falling'. There is a demand...

Once the grouper and big snapper learn how to get to them without being stuck, they won't last long. Not to mention if people could come up with a practical way of cleaning that didn't take so long, they are a very good-eating fish..I grew up in S. Florida and this is not the first time there has been an invasive species loose. Once they start being sold already cleaned....

The name of the guy's boat is MacDaddy and he's surrounded by hot blonde "researchers"... Guarantee he's hollowing them out, bent over the railing, like they are hollowing out their lionfish stomachs...

Most biologist are Democrats and this "Doc' proves they are REALLY STUPID. Listen to what they said. It started from 9 Lion fish and a decade later all up the U.S. coast. SO WHY do you say lets leave some alone and see what the reef can support. WTF STOP wasting money and kill them Period. The you hear there's not a lot know about the fish LIARS!!! Not only have they been studying the Lion fish in the islands since the 50s Aquarium people KNOW their fish. Bottom line you'll NEVER get rid of them period!!!
