I have to say, i was playing with the idea of buying a OP, but just yesterday i got my first GS and im amazed with the quality for the price. AND i didnt get any Rlx AD BS.
Buy a GS if you want to impress yourself, buy a Rlx if you want to impress others. GrandSeiko Fanboy now.
Love GS. The divers don’t get love because they’re oversized. Similar to Fifty Fathoms… people want 40-41mm.
Mil-spec hodinkee FF could be a perfect diver if wasn't limited edition. Current price of $35k is too much
Yep. This isn't a Submariner competitor. This is a deepsea competitor because of the size. The deepsea is also not that popular (for a steel Rolex sports watch).

I'm a grand seiko fan and would like to add one of their divers. Hopefully one day they might release one with smaller dimensions. Bb58 dimensions would be perfect for the smaller wrist gang.

I personally like GS more than any other luxury brands, but I’ve never really liked their Dive Watches. Mainly because they are just too big. Thanks for the great review!

Sorry,…but the SLGA023 is in a different class when compared to the Submariner. The USHIO is superior to the Sub in so many ways. It really isn’t a fair comparison.

I strongly feel that Seiko is way better than Rolex !!! I have had Seiko SKX 007 for 25years without any problems, It has never been repaired. I have several Rolexes, WHICH REQUIRED MANY REPAIRS. It is expensive to own Rolex watches, which is not practical. This new Grand Seiko diver is superb !!!
I bought this watch the day it came out. I love it! I have a small wrist (16 cm) and it wears great. I put all my watches on straps, and this one is great on a rubber strap!
What strap did you use?
While this has a better looking dial, i prefer the hands of the seiko LX diver over this one. And it costs half the price. 😊

I want a GS diver so bad but they’re just too damn big! Scale it back to about 41 and it’d be killer. Otherwise, just too chunky.
I wouldn’t call it chunky,…but it is a very large watch. Wouldn’t recommend for wrists

I love GS and actually like their divers BECAUSE they are larger, thats their differentiator for me. If I want to wear a small watch, I grab my Submariner.
I would take this over a Rolex any day. But that’s just my preference so.

They need to make a sub 40mm diver of this and steal the Rolex bracelet, then they will absolutely dominate the whole market
The things about this that just doesn’t meet the alternative level is the clasp and size. This is a much larger watch and the 24mm lug width is wayyy less versatile and won’t look good a lot of wrists.
Love the GS divers abd have been so close to picking up a SBGA229G on many occasions. It tgey made this around 41mm then i would pick one up and they would have a genuine Rolex killer.
It is a beautiful watch. One of the best looking divers I have tried. It is just too big. But if I was in a market for a big watch, I would buy this one.
Grand Seiko does some things really good and no so good. Power movement on dial (bad), Case thickness (bad), Bracelet clasp (bad), lack of lume on many models (bad)... Dials are stunning, movement and case finishing is fantastic. My biggest 'problem' is I find GS's to look better on paper and in pics then when on my wrist. They just never 'wow' me for some reason. Given the expensive price point I'm not sure I'll ever own one of them.
It's nice but I like the SLA models better for the designs.
Rolex is Rolex.. I really like the Grand Seiko... but it doesn't have the Rolex badge.. i think.. Gran Seiko is a watch that must be purchased with greater deliberation to keep it forever
I can wear 44mm watches in my 16,5mm wrist, but the lug to lug here is too large. Amazing dial, i have the sensation they don´t finish the job with the watch

Dude. I like you. But you’re tripping. Same clasp design as a $600 Seiko. It screams cheap and tasteless. Sorry. GS has not figured out an elegant dive watch design language yet. I absolutely love their dress watches. I’ll pass on this big chunky confused looking watch.
For the price they really need to sort the buckle and on the fly adjustment
Seiko Prospex LX gets the diver 100% right.

Great video as always. I have a hang-up on handsets, and I'm not a fan of the handset on this watch, nor am I a fan of the submariner handset. So neither would be on my radar. If it was down to a choice, with them both having a closed case back, I'd go with the Spring Drive movement all day long.
Rolex killer? Clickbait title or do you actually believe this? If so, let’s check in again in a year or two and see how this statement holds up.

Never understood the logic behind seiko and GS doing a lumed lollipop counterbalance instead of a normal lumed lollipop like the omega SMP or the sub
Not to mention Rolex recent movement issues popping up on watch forumns. Not so bulletproof after all.
They get no respect because they stick with the name that represents watches that cost $100 bucks. And yes, $100 Seiko is a pretty good watch but it's like spending Ferrari money on a car that says Fancy Toyota... ( the best cars in the world but if you paid $180,000 for a Camry it probably wouldn't be a great deal or feel "sexy")

Any collector will tell you GS are a step above Rolex. I own neither.
I have a SBGX339 which I like quite a bit. But, the clasp has got to go. Truly 3rd rate compared to what the competitors are producing.
I guess Rolex is the highest level. Just get a Rolex and stop whinning. FYI - I don’t have a Rolex…yet.

It's a great watch but... because of the tech of the spring drive It's taller than a submariner
Not trying to ofende anyone here, but Rolex awakes nothing on me. I know it’s a good brand and with great history and which has had a huge impact on the watchmaking, but I simply don’t feel it. This GS instead 😮💨 this really speaks to me. Titanium, Spring Drive, that dial simply calls me. If it only was 2 or 3 mm smaller would be my grail watch

Man i love GS and all their watches, but the divers oh boy , im okay with the dimensions but that handset is so fuckin ugly don’t get me started, if they could only have a good looking hands like that of Seiko SNR spring driver divers it would be perfect
It’s about function,…not form. It’s a dive watch and needs to be easily readable.
Make the hour and minute hands in the same design and I'm on board. I won't buy a watch with mismatched hour and minute hands.

I bought a grand saco and I returned it. And I ended up buying a Rolex air king. I thought the grand secret was this incredible thing. When they were selling it on every UA-cam channel. There is, but when I got it there shot Sue finish was nothing spectacular. I gotta be honest with you. And the movement is just a fancier. Version of a psychopath. The band is nothing compared to a Rolex band and although the dial is very pretty. It's not worth putting 12 or $13000 on a watch. I'm sorry i'd rather have a Rolex. And you day of the week and you know. No matter how they try to push these watches, they're just fancy. Saicos, that's it. I'm sorry, that's what they are. And that does not warrant thirteen thousand dollars

Early this morning I watched another video about killing another model from the Rolex collection of watches, it was about the killing of the Datejust model with one of the Seiko watches, one of the King Seiko watches and one of the Grand Seiko models.
There are too many videos about the killing of Rolex watches (I don't even own a Rolex watch, I own a beautiful Seiko SPB053). My other hobbies are quality tools and cars, so there are too many similar videos about killing Snap-on tools with crappy Asian Icon tools from Harbor Freight and those tools happened to be 100% ripoffs of Snap-on tools anyways. There are plenty of videos about the killing of the BMW M3 with some ugly Lexus models and other Japanese brands of cars (I buy only Toyota cars).

Not into this. It looks like a mashup of a Rolex Submariner and an Omega Planet Ocean. A terrible bracelet and ugly handset. There’s nothing unique about the design which is a pity as the movement technology is amazing. I’d like to like it but I can’t
That clasp alone is why Grand Seiko can’t hope to outshine Rolex. Rolex’s clasp is amazing. That Grand Seiko clasp is crap.

Really? The finishing on the GS and the movement are in a different league to Rolex, which trades on its name and making watches unavailable. The GS is a far better watch.
@danielthegeek4582 Not this one imho. I have both brands in my collection btw. GS is untouchable regarding dress watches. However, their divers leave a lot to be desired.
I tried it since my Rolex AD is also a GS AD. The dial and the case finishing are superb as expected. However, the bracelet feels and looks cheap. The proportions look horrible for a watch of that size. The watch is big and chunky and only is 200MWR. Maybe once it hits the preowned market losing 50% of its original price, I would consider it. 🤷♂️. Not in Rolex or Omega's league so far.
That’s going to change quickly. ADs have no Rolex inventory. As this gent notes,…people aren’t going to wait around. This watch is going to be a huge success.

I think that's fine. Don't mention it's a Rolex killer. Enjoy it for what it is. When you compare watches to Rolex, be prepared for scrutiny.
The dial is beautiful. Titanium is fantastic,…especially with this finishing. The clasp is not a joke. It’s quite good. It is a great watch for a bigger wrist (i.e., 8”) and looks less of a tool watch. The movement is amazing. Good luck getting a Submariner at retail.
