Major Scale through the cycle of 4ths
I’ve been teaching Guitar Techniques at Columbia College in Chicago for many years and I will be starting again in just over a week. When we cover single octave scales and arpeggios, we add the 9th which turns it into a comfortable 4-bar practice.
The use of the cycle of 4ths as a practice technique makes a lot of sense on guitar as the strings are nearly all tuned at that interval.
Here I am explaining the use of the cycle of 4ths as a practice, through the use of 3 fingerings. I’ve been teaching this for a long time and if you’d like to learn how to practice scales in all 12 keys, give it a try.
