Wanted to thank Liam for the visit and taking the time to put up this
video, thought I would add a few things to the story, I starting forging
knives and back yard welding in 92, age 19. In 94 I made my first custom
order knife an 8" dagger with the guidance of blacksmith George Brewer,
(he shaved with a straight razor every day for 50 years and taught me a
lot.) I have hand ground over 3000 knives since then, not sure if it's my
technique or what but I am getting tendonitis in my forearms and I believe
it's from hand grinding chef knives.( one reason for the cnc) I have
traveled many parts of the world studying knives and while in Japan I made
a few knives and fell in love with their huge grinding wheels, around 4-5'
diameter and made that 24" belt grinder when I came home. I started making
carbon steel pattern welded steels and mocume around 1998 and stainless
PWS (Damascus) a few years later. When Bushcraft Canada asked if I could
make a less expensive knife I turned to CNC after watching John at Grismo
knives and John at Saunders Machine Works, that was just over a year ago.
    I did a one week course in CNC/CAD/CAM Fusion360 at S.M.W. (Highly
recommend it for any newbie.) (and a huge thank you to Kevin at Mechanical Advantage for help with Fusion360 .) The Haas arrived last July. It's been the
hardest year of my life learning how to run the Mill and CAD/CAM,( A lot
harder than making knives by hand) but am just starting to produce some
good results. I am very excited with my new designs, allowing me to create
details I would not otherwise be able to offer. ( ( just about to release
my latest key hole construction design for kitchen and outdoor knives. For
my outdoor grinds I do primarily scandi grind in my outdoor knives because
that is what is requested by Bushcraft Canada. not because there is less
metal to grind or it easier, in fact I find it much harder to grind a
clean scandi than any other grind. I still free hand finish the bevels
after the rough mill. I am excited for the future of making knives till
the day I am turned to ash and dust.

Very cool! I always enjoy knifemaking shop tours, in fact I have a pretty long playlist on my channel that I've been saving every one I've come across on YT over the years. You can pick up of a lot of great little tips and tricks seeing the way other knifemakers work. I love that overhead lamp in his leather shop upstairs as well as the curved roof, looks like it's be a nice place to work, especially in the winter. Thanks for sharing.
