Been painting plastic for years. Do or would you recommend that you wash the wheels with hot soapy water first? I almost always do. It removes any oils that may be on the plastic from the molding process. I tend to find that paint adheres better. And also way better finished outcome.
Hi @Don Krol, Yes we would agree with that. It would just be extra insurance in the long run for the paint on your wheels.👍 Thanks for your interest and support!
When I do my wheels I use alcohol pads and they help pull the slick residue off like some kind of oil the rims and makes them dryer and the chrome paint will make the wheels 3 time brighter than without using the alcohol pads I love them chrome paint pen 💪🏾💪🏾💯
Just purchased a no prep drag car, I have been collecting for a scale garage too.. the car will be part of the diorama.. while looking for spare parts to display, I thought spare drag slicks and a set of "Center line" rims would be cool... Wasn't long figuring out the most popular drag rims ever produced, are not being produced for 1:10 No prep rc drag racing...
Just make chrome wheels like you did years ago. Was a bad idea to stop.
Can you provide links, item numbers or descriptions for the chrome pens and supplies you used? That would be extremely helpful
Theses pens are amazing I need to buy more sets

It looks like chrome when first applied but it will dull quickly if you touch it.
Yep, they have to be left alone for quite some time and finding a lacquer suitable isn't straight forward either.
