The Sweetheart Tree - Mix of Natalie Wood and Jackie Ward - The Great Race

- A dubbing experiment! Natalie sang most of this song quite well, with only a few shaky notes. Since she wanted to sing it so badly, and since Jackie Ward was such a good match, I felt they could have blended their voices as I have done here. Can you hear who is singing when? Scroll down to see the 11 words Jackie sings - but only after you first watch the clip! Also, I used the underscoring to create a tribute to Natalie.

The Great Race movie would not be the same without the Sweetheart Tree song. It is brief but so touching and can bring tears to own's eyes. Of all the movies with Natalie Wood, I've loved this movie the best. This movie is also very special to me because I fell in love with my first sweetheart while watching this movie together for the first time. ❤
The little tribute at the end brought a tear to my eye. Natalie was a darling... RIP
I remember I was a kid, and my parents would take my sister and I to the drive-in movies occasionally. The Great Race was so hysterically funny for its time and Natalie was wonderful in it even in the mind of a 10-year-old (me).
This was expertly done, taking Natalie's best parts, full of heart & vulnerability, & augmenting the song with Jackie Ward's parts, which match quite nicely. I watched to the end of the vocal section happily, then was caught off guard as the underscore continued, which I did not expect. The beautiful music there, complimented by the images of Natalie through the years, actually brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful way to present this piece, thank you!
That's so nice - thank you! I think they could have used this version in the film, don't you? I didn't use any new technology, so they could have done this in 1965 had they wanted to.
@@lostvocals8 Yes, they could have used this sort of combination. Better than the awful auto-tuning or electronic manipulation employed so readily these days. To be clear, there's nothing wrong at all with Jackie Ward, of course, & I can understand considering dubbing if The Great Race was a genuine musical (with more Natalie Wood songs). But yes, I would have enjoyed this edit in the released version. At least have your take as an alternative!
this is most lovely and your 'experiment' is an unqualified success. God bless your good heart.
Thanks! They should have done this.
@@lostvocals8 Yes, would have made Natalie happy that most of her soft vocal could be utilized.
I love hearing Natalie's voice here - she would be so grateful!
Beautiful tribute. Thank you so much
Good movie nice
I love this movie, and especially this tender moment in song.
❤🤗🤗
If you want to see a great, entertaining movie ... watch this one.
I have never seen her before!! Who is she?
Famous star who played Maria in West Side Story.
I think the producers made the right choice to dub over her voice. It's a much more better blend for this scene. Loved the instrumental that followed..
You know this is 90% Natalie’s voice, right?
@@lostvocals8 Yes I do.. I had been listening to the original dubbed version just B4 I found your clip.
@@ducter2001 I see. I think this mix sounds fine, and could have been used.
@@classicclips9086 I have listened to both clips again a few times -as I say the dub blends in perfect harmony to match the scene. For me there is somthing not right with this scene -when Natalies voice is used. Repeat myself again when I say producer made right decision to use this version :) ua-cam.com/video/cC65GEJpJQw/v-deo.html
Feel like this would have definitely worked
She would have needed some help with the shaky notes but okay with help
But I already replaced all the shaky notes! You think even more need to be changed??
@@lostvocals8 I'm talking about for the movie itself which was produced in the sixties. You're 55 years too late to help Natalie. Much respect for Jackie
Norm Lee I also posted the clip of only her voice. Did my mix make it usable?
@@lostvocals8 Oh Yes
