Yep. It’s so fucked up but at least COVID-19 has given workers a “genuine reason” to take a sick day if they’re sick. And even so, you have to fight tooth and nail. It’s not that they will ORDER you to work, but they will use emotional abuse to punish you for trying. Even if you’re streaming snot right in front of them. They’ll ask “well, do you FEEL Like you COULD work?” In an angry judgemental tone that makes it clear they will be unhappy with you as a worker if you don’t push through and pretend not to be sick. If you continue to request a sick day, they will imply with tone and body language (and sometimes with direct words) that you are soft, and weak, and selfish. If you point out that it’s not just about whether you are up to it, but the risk of spreading infection to others, they will roll their eyes, scoff, and use tone and body language to imply that you are being difficult, splitting hairs, or just saying ridiculous far fetched things. Bosses often don’t care about society at large or the individual worker. They care about themselves.

He put on his uniform, came to work, then went up to the boss. He looked her dead in the eye with his *BLOOD RED EYES* and started sneezing. She let him take the day off. Saved all of our customers that day.
i hope you were atleast 16 when you were working. the way you phrase it makes it sound like this happened when you were 9 or something which would be illegal
See, this was me when I called off work. Then they'd complain I called out. So I go in next time I feel like this and they complain I am not working hard enough so I explain that i'm sick and they send me home. I get sick again, I call out. They complain. Cycle goes on.
I can relate to this so well. This is an actual issue that should really be addressed. They can't punish you for being sick unless they want you to infect other people at work, yet they also try to force you to go home when you put up with being sick and come to work.
If companies were required to pay a reasonable number of sick days, people could rest at home and recover and not feel burdened to come into work ill. It would literally solve most of this issue.
And some workplaces punish employees for calling in sick no matter how sick or infrequently they do it. In my case, if you miss 5 days in 6 months you are fired. Weekdays count as 2 a piece, and holidays count as 4. so yeah, get sick on a weekend or memorial day and you are pretty much gone.
As someone with a pretty crummy immune response in a workplace that's understaffed at the best of times I resonated so hard with "go home or I will kill you."
I hate when people refuse to use their sick days, they put everyone else at risk and could potentially be very dangerous to people with a compromised immune system like cancer patients. If you have strep throat please just stay home!
Lol what a privileged statement. You must be lucky enough to have a good employer who treats their staff well above average. Some people get written up or get in trouble for taking a sick day. Some even get fired. Even with a drs note. Just sayin.
Papa Nurgle just called and would like to say that he is happy that Brennan enjoys his gifts and does his best to share them. Good on you, boy, you're an inspiration for every other hard-working plague host out there.
I don't know whats the situation at your restaurant is like but let me give you a hint from a managers point of view. Most of the time, you are not needed. Most managers just give you that feeling to deter you from calling in sick, cause it's a hassle for us to find replacement. Also just think about this: they had to have managed before you worked there, or not?
@@dxXZeroXxb I do not need a "hint from a manager's point of view". I have been a general manager in 3 different states and two different countries with multiple brands. My schedules were tight enough that if we could not find a replacement, everyone else on the team had to pull extra weight just to get through the shift. If someone couldn't work, I wouldn't force them.. I just tried to inform them when they were hired, that "when you aren't here, there is no magical magic sidework fairy doing your work for you.. your coworkers are doing it for you. If you are sick, call in sick.. if you are hung over... be an adult... brown bottle flu, is not being sick."
I saw a worker get *heavily* harassed at Walmart because he was coughing like you wouldn't believe and should've called in sick but after a bit he started breathing ok again and he just goes "It's ok, I'm fine, I'm fine, I was just choking." What a relief am I right
jemielnic not true at all in my experiences. All the men i know call in sick whenever they have the slightest cold, and then act like they are dying or something. While women go to work no matter how sick they are. Makes sense if you think about the fact that most women have to go to work or school with pretty intense pain every month for a week.
jemielnic Peter Sweden and Rebel Media. I see. Sorry about your involuntary celibacy and your lack of friends, I see it took a toll on your mental health. Take care, get well soon.
I worked from home for the last 4 years, so it wasn't a problem before...but now that I'm leaving the house, being as sick as I am is a major hassle. Ugh.
This makes me laugh so hard. Particularly at how oblivious people can be to how work REALLY goes...where your boss tells you that your strep throat isn't "really that contagious" and how if you don't come in your hours will get cut.
My old boss would call sick employees everyday to bully them back. I once sent him a photo of my face swollen like mad from infected sinuses he responded "it doesn't matter how you look as long as you're there"
If you were a responsible and honest employee, who didn't abuse sick time or calling out sick in general, no one on the earth would fire you for literally being sick. Especially if you could prove it with documentation. Literally no one. Grow up.
@@UriTheImpaler wrong. Just miss the wrong day at many employers and it would be the end. Especially if it's a day after a holiday with mandatory overtime.

This is me, but it's also partially because if you call in sick when the head manager is working, she will scream at you on the phone. Even if you have something that's contagious! And I work with FOOD!
Total Trash Mammal I hate that manager! They make so much more than us but they hate everything more
I just like the fact that someone named Trash Mammal works in food service. :D
(P.S. I also had those kinds of managers, even in food service)
Total Trash Mammal thats because Managerd in good service dont care about the health of the food. That isnt their problem. At least they dont think so. Thier job is to oversee others and when said people dont come in it affects their pay. Its the stupidist thing ever
thats most managers
Okay I've been that person, but I've never worked in food service. What happens when your customers get ill from the food I wonder?

Brennan is one of the best thing ever happened to College Humor. GOOD JOB Y'ALL!
We need a 2020 sequel where the boss thinks remote work makes sick time obsolete.
I swear to god, Brennan is the best actor CollegeHumor has.
you know it!
I was never allowed to stay home unless I was throwing up or could not move so I get it.
Imatallelf same 😂😂😂
Same, unless my fever was higher than 100 F or throwing up, off to school I went
Lol, same. Unless I was sneezing like crazy and had fever above 100, my mom would send me off to school.
That's the way that it should be
Dendrox den yeah, that way you can spread your germs and get more people sick.

How to save someone from suffering?
Katie: *resorts to violence*
As a kid, I had a coworker _try_ to call in sick, but get told he needed to come in anyway.
He had pink-eye. BAD.
He worked as a bagger in a grocery store.
@@sylvy16 Exactly 16, actually.
See, this was me when I called off work. Then they'd complain I called out. So I go in next time I feel like this and they complain I am not working hard enough so I explain that i'm sick and they send me home. I get sick again, I call out. They complain. Cycle goes on.
jscheetz03 same with me, only I get yelled at just for walking in the building sick and sent home, but yet yelled at because I called in sick.
It would literally solve most of this issue.
jscheetz03 call in sick and don’t care if they complain.. you have a right to sick days
You must work in fast food. I can guarantee this happens all the time.
I've had so many sick days from school that if I have another then I'll be expelled.
Maisy Floss same!
Maisy Floss in my school they excused sick days
Wtf I've never had any sick days
I always used every single one.
Ferris Bueller is that you?
Well this aged interestingly.
I love the cheerful music that keeps playing in the background while Brennan's sneezing acid and popping out eyes
The problem is that most people literally cannot afford to call in sick
And some workplaces punish employees for calling in sick no matter how sick or infrequently they do it. In my case, if you miss 5 days in 6 months you are fired. Weekdays count as 2 a piece, and holidays count as 4. so yeah, get sick on a weekend or memorial day and you are pretty much gone.
Don't you get a certain number of days for paid sick leave?
@@UzairTheTuber nope
Because the US are shit
@@kentknightofcaelin4537 RIP grammar
As someone with a pretty crummy immune response in a workplace that's understaffed at the best of times I resonated so hard with "go home or I will kill you."
Brennan has the best sketches. I haven't even watched it yet but I'm sure already
I hate when people refuse to use their sick days, they put everyone else at risk and could potentially be very dangerous to people with a compromised immune system like cancer patients. If you have strep throat please just stay home!
I agree! 100000%. Like that’s what sick days are for - for sick days!
Lol what a privileged statement. You must be lucky enough to have a good employer who treats their staff well above average. Some people get written up or get in trouble for taking a sick day. Some even get fired. Even with a drs note. Just sayin.
Only in America...
Just because you guys are a bunch of bitches who let your bosses trample over your rights doesn’t mean people shouldn’t take sick days off.
Chantel Carter I didn't talk about people who don't have sick days. I'm talking about people who do have them but prefer to save them for vacation.
Papa Nurgle just called and would like to say that he is happy that Brennan enjoys his gifts and does his best to share them. Good on you, boy, you're an inspiration for every other hard-working plague host out there.
Its hard to call in sick when you work at a restaurant because they need you and no one wants to cover for you
Yep.. in this situation I always felt guilty for letting my team high and dry and would just troop through it.
What’s messed up is it shouldn’t be your problem to find someone to cover for you, that’s your bosses job. You’re sick!

jemielnic not true at all in my experiences. All the men i know call in sick whenever they have the slightest cold, and then act like they are dying or something. Particularly at how oblivious people can be to how work REALLY goes...where your boss tells you that your strep throat isn't "really that contagious" and how if you don't come in your hours will get cut.
My old boss would call sick employees everyday to bully them back. I once sent him a photo of my face swollen like mad from infected sinuses he responded "it doesn't matter how you look as long as you're there"
You mean " the guy whose had a boss that demanded he come in even if he were dieing today"
I love how Ralph was sitting right there and just ignored everything until he got sneezed on 😂
Nice to have the option to stay home without getting fired
What country do you live in, if I might ask?
If you were a responsible and honest employee, who didn't abuse sick time or calling out sick in general, no one on the earth would fire you for literally being sick. Especially if you could prove it with documentation. Literally no one. Grow up.
@@UriTheImpaler Dude/dudette, chill out. You seem to be taking this as a personal affront

Simba "Pitching in" usually means to assist someone with something, to help out. i.e someone can pitch in some cash if someone has financial troubles - in this case, he has some comedy ideas (some pitches) that he can share with the group to help make more sketches. The joke is, even while almost dead, he's still talking normally about his actions and plans for the meeting.
