    Awesome video! Thank you for sharing all this!
    One question. If I understood well on flatter clean water the rocker on the planning board will create a little more drag with its rocker, as the entry rocker will be pushing water.
    Would a convex bottom contour on the entry of the board help diminish this drag by cutting a bit easier through the water? Or a concave contour that would maybe channel the water? Or is a flat entry the best and/or fastest option?
    Thank you again!

      Correct. We have found that a more or less flat bottom works best on a planing hull as it creates lift and does not track like a concave. There have been many experiments combining displacement nose with planing tail for the best of both worlds but they don’t work well together.

    Which one of these boards would catch a small wave better and ride it to shore? For example one or two foot ?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому +1

      For surfing, there is no doubt that a good downwind board with some rocker from nose to tail will work better as it fits on the curved face of the wave better and will turn easier. Flatwater race boards with low rocker are very difficult to surf on, even in tiny waves as you constantly have to walk to the tail to keep the nose from pearling and back forward to trim out the board.and keep it from stalling, which is very technical.

    By soft rails do you mean rounded ?
    For beginner downwinding what width board do you recommend?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому

      Yes, soft rails means rounded without a defined edge. For learning to downwind we recommend the 14' x 30" Bump Rider Wide

    Doesn't it just matter if it's v-shaped at the front so it can cut through water? The exception being downwind paddling I assume.

      +Co Co, as mentioned in the video, the rocker and waterline can have a bigger impact than the shape of the bow.

    Hi thanks great informative video. I know inflatables are a compromise but I am thinking of making a first paddle board purchase with a Red Paddle 12'6 sport or 13'2 Explorer mainly for flat water. Do you think the 12'6 or 13'2 would be able to catch small waves ? and would it be possible to try a few Downwinders on one here in the UK ? Thanks

      Hi Paul, you can make those boards catch waves and do downwinders on them but they will certainly not be the ideal boards for either. Most people think that they can buy one board to do everything when they buy their first board. Just focus on getting a decent board that you are comfortable on and can learn on. If you enjoy it and get into the sport you will find that you will want more than one board for different uses and your first board will not be your last.

    I am been paddle boarding for about 2 and a half years or more and have been using a friends race boaard just wondering where you would recommend to buy paddle boards from

      Hi Jacob,
      It depends where you are located. If you are on Oahu, you should come to our shop in Honolulu and we can help you find the best board for your needs. We also have a network of International distributors and authorized retailers. So, let us know where you are located and we can help you get the best service and value. We always recommend to try before you buy whenever possible.

      Barbados(In the Caribbean) and i am doing more and more downwinders

      Hi Jacob, a 14' Bump Rider would be great fro you, unfortunately we don't have any dealers in the Carribean. We could get a air cargo shipping quote for you but shipping 14' boards is quite expensive, sorry.

    • @jacobbinnema5189
      @jacobbinnema5189 8 років тому

      would the quote be free free, and i am a 5.7 115 pound male so would you recommend the 12'6" or the 14'0"

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  8 років тому

      Yes, quotes are free if you are serious about buying a board from us. The length depends on what you want to do with it. You would be fine on a 12'6 but a 14' board will be faster.
