Texas - I don't want a lover - Drum Cover (UK Pop EZX) #93

- My first cover with the new UK Pop EZX expansion for EZDrummer2 from Toontrack. I wanted to chose a British song (well, there are thousands), but one that shows the sonical versatility of this expansion pack. The most difficult part was to capture the huge reverb effect on the kick and snare to capture the driving beat from the original.

very cool drumming.. the sound is awesome!
Good work my friend 😍😍
Great filming Mike. Fun for this guitarist to watch and appreciate a good drummer in action.
Thanks a lot David! Always great to have other musicians on my channel who watch a dude like me drumming. 😎
Solid time keeping. The EZX sounds cool. Typical UK drums.
The metronome is my best friend ;)
Another great cover!! and sounding!!..Sound of open- close hi-hat is very delicate!!+👍
Hello my friend, thank you for taking your time to watch it.
Please make a video explaining how you learn a cover. How long does it take? What are the steps? I mean this is a simple song, but it's not so easy to play it as well as you do. Thanks!
Always a amazing feeling when you upload a new cover . Love all the camera angles and of course sound is FANTASTIC!!
Well, I guess with your SJC drums you will set a new standard in sound, my friend. ;) Thanks for watching.
Great sound Mike, the kick and snare are really cutting through, they do give a certain drive to the song. Perfect my friend! 👍🤛🍺
Sounds great Mike!! Awesome drumming!!
Thanks, Mike. You went for drum samples, too, didn't you? Hope you like the sounds just as much as I did when I first used them.
Amazing! What kick are you using here?
great sound and great cover! but I'm confused, your drum set seems mostly acoustic where does the UK Pop EZX come into place? thanks for the vid
Hey, thanks for your comment. The drum set is completely triggered by UK Pop EZX. The actual shells are, of course, an acoustic drum set, but I converted the whole set into an e-drum set - internal trigger systems and mesh heads on top.
wow that sound is so amazing Mike !!
.Please tell me more about how you captured the reverb sound on the snare (and kick drums). Is it from one one the present sounds of UK pop?Did you tweak it in ez x's/superior drummers mixer section?Or was it added somewhere else in your recording chain? Thanks
Hi Harold, I added the reverb during the mixing in my DAW, which is reaper. I barely ever use the presets within Toontrack. In this case, I creates three different reverb tracks: one for the drums, one for the kick and one for the snare.
Great song and a great cover! Best regards from cold Belgrade
Thanks from Munich! :)
Solid drumming Mike! Sound is great! Like+1
Go for it Mike, fantastic timing.Stuart Kerr (Glasgow)
Cheers Stuart! Appreciate it
Even when Toontrack pre-announced this EZX, I was totally hot on it. Ash is one of my favorite drummers, I enjoyed the videos about his great drum studio and I really like his style and his sound. Then I listened to the first demos of Toontracks' EZX and was ... a little disappointed. Sounded somehow after drumming on sofa cushions ;-). I actually like dry sounds, but with this EZX ... Your cover, however, I like it a lot. You got a lot out of the presets in your mix, I really like the sound of Tom's and Cymbals. But also snare and kick go very well with the song. And by the way, you drummed damn good, Mike. Thumbs up!
Hi Thomas, well, I agree to the point that the presets Toontrack developed here are not the best. At least they don’t show the possibilities of those samples. It’s true that the drums are almost all damped to a certain extent. However, they are recorded very well. And Gretsch drums have an unique and warm character, so I like them. This EZX won’t fit to any style, but it sounds better than the presets from Toontrack‘s promo videos ;)
Thanks Mike. Good to hear. Maybe i give them a try now ;-)
Pretty tune and a nice melody! Dig the expansion Mike...sounds great as well as the tight drumming!!
Thank you very much, Jerimy.
Your cover is so cool! Congrats!
Thanks a lot Sandra! Appreciate it.
Nicely done, sir.
Thank you very much, Stephen.
I'd tune into your vids even just to admire the killer set up you have built for yourself Mike. As for your playing well...... that was solid my man. Landing that snare bang on the 2 & 4 always gets the gig. Nicely done buddy!
Great job!
Thanks a lot, Marcio. Appreciate it.
Sounded great Mike!
Oh Mike what an awesome mix!! And your drumming is spot on man!! Sweet cover Mike!!😎👍
Solid cover Mike! Cool camera angles and fantastic sound with great drumming! 😄👍🏻
Solid warm drumming, Mike and the kit matches up perfectly well with the sonic quality of the song.
I had a "round badge" Gretsch kit from the 1960s that was made in the original factory in Brooklyn NY where I happen to be living at the time and I'm sorry I got rid of that kit.
Hi Sal, thank you! That’s too bad you don’t have your Round Badge kit anymore. Was it a classical 3-piece kit? I love those vintage drums, they just have a special character in sound.
Mike Luke
Yea Mike, it was a 3 piece: 20" kick, 12" tom, and 5.5x14" snare. The floor tom was a Japanese make - Japan wasn't making good drums back then. It was my first drum kit and it belonged to my younger brother. I swapped my Nikon camera for the kit. I did a lot of recording and gigs with that kit.
Great cover man!
Cheers, and thanks for watching.
Wow awesome drumming man. The sound is so perfect like always. Great stuff here man. Love it
Hey Michael, I appreciate your support and that you always take your time to watch and listen. Cheers, buddy.
Mike Luke you are welcome man. I always enjoy your videos man.
Nifty one man. I like this song "moves" on, like a train. Rock on
Impeccable straight ahead groovin’ and time keeping my friend. That type of drumming is appreciated more than you realize. 👌🏻
Always great to get feedback from talented drummers. Yeah, especially the band dudes appreciate that ;)
I’ve recently started jamming with a country band. The cool thing about that genre is it’s not so much about the notes you play, it’s more about the space you leave for the rest of the band. You absolutely nailed that concert. Really well played and great tune.
Thank you, Steve. Well, I plan to release some more complex and faster stuff in the next weeks after doing some really basic songs. When it comes to mixing, there's no difference whether you mix a simple (drumming) song or a more complex one. ;) Thanks again for your comment and your support.
Great work. Good mix. I would love to see you take on somthing more percussivly complex within the programming as well the musicality of the songs you decide to cover. Never the less keep up the clean inspirational work!
Hi Keelan, well, I simply often don’t find the time for more complex stuff that I‘d have to practice for. I have some songs in mind that need more work though.
so cool sound! Drumming and video are very impressive :)
слова подяки, Kate :)
you are welcome :) thank you for the words in Ukrainian :)
Man, what a fantastic sound bro! Excellent job Mike
Always great to get some feedback from you, Greg. Hope to see new content from you soon.
Awesome song selection, cover and vid.
Love the song! I snatched this drum set as soon as it was announced.
Very solid studio playing! The sound choice is great too!
Cheers Earl!
Admiring your mixes man. Again and again. Do you use superior drummer or ezdrummer more?
Almost exclusively Superior Drummer. For practicing as well as for recording.
