I think Vogel's death is supposed to liken him to Icarus, his ambition caused him to fly too close to the sun and then after he was shot in the mouth he came crashing back down to earth.

Not really how I'd read into it personally, but for what it's worth: the name Vogel means "Bird" in both Dutch and German, so in terms of symbolism that does line up well with Icarus' feather wings.
The fact that Ultor’s Logo is The Sun, I’d say this is pretty accurate.

Gentrification *is* a bad thing though. By raising property values you are raising the cost of living, which pushes out the poor who can no longer afford to live in that area. Even if Dane supposedly had good intentions, he is still screwing over a large group of people.
Danes intentions were pure power. Come on he had gangs fighting each other. He wanted to clean the streets to gain support from the rich and political figures. The only good Dane actually did was compromise the pyramid. Other then that he had all the other board members killed. All because he was asked to fix the war he started. He did more then just try to clean the streets.
This is when Saints Row used to be good.

TheProfessional this was my first saints row I saw the trailers that had the guy from under siege and point break and I was hooked I played it for ages then I got stuck because I didn’t know you had to do the side missions before you could face the main bad guy the first main bad guy I faced was the head of the brotherhood I can’t remember his name so I will just call him scar face favourite mission was killing the brotherhood members being freed I still remember climbing into that plane and strafing the boats

While the bar scene was badass, i cant get over the fact he straight used that baretender as meat shield
best part is he didn't even had to do it, he could just jump under the bar counter with her and counter was high enough to provide cover for both of them but nope, boss is just a stupid animal.

There’s an issue with Dane’s plan. He says “gangs”. By the time you get to this part of the story, there’s only one gang lol
I think the point is that this entire time, that was dane's strategy (feeding the saints information about the akuji hotel). Like you're just experiencing a recap or a Ludonarrative conflict

The initial clip might be a flashback of sorts from before the Ronin, Brotherhood and SoS were wiped out. Like Vogel just waited until all three gangs were taken out of the picture, then tried to cut the head of the last snake.
Didn't work, obviously.
Gangs come and go, some are crippled, some are killed off completely and new ones are born in their place. The Saints was meant to be a vigilante type gang (Ironic sense they still contributed to the majority of the issues plaguing the city) meant to combat the issues ruining Stilwater but as Julius said The Saints fixed nothing and only added to an already bad situation.

This is my first time watching Saints Row 2, and when Dane used the Saints to attack the cruise, I thought that it was very smart and manipulative of him. Using his enemies to kill his enemies. I like Vogel.

Not really. Dane Vogel, and by extension Ultor, planned to take over Stillwater by increasing Gang violence and use it as an excuse to try to take over the city. They created the problem and were going to sell the solution; that was spelled out in very first Ultor Cutscene.
Ultor is a corrupt organization.
If you finish all of the Ultor missions, you becoming the King of Stilwater.

Maya Peoples Only because his colleagues/higher ups made him do it. I don't think he tried to interfere with the saints when he was in charge. Though he didn't have a long time to be in charge. Dane cared about wealth more than people. The saints, owning most of the town and arguably the most wealthy part of Stilwater, the part the Ronin and Vice Kings owned, could provide Dane with a good income while having a corrupt supper power on the side of the Saints. They could free any Saints row members in prison for example. And they'd pretty much in a way have control of the police and the entire stilwater.
Also Dane didn't betray the Ronin. The leader of the ronin (The older guy) didn't agree with his son's decision to work together with Dane because the Ronin in his eyes should be powerful without any outside help.
Also the only reason Ultor didn't work together with the saints before the Ronin was because the leader dissappeared, Troy became chief of police, Dex joined ultor, Gat was pretty much doomed by the legal system, and the main character was in a coma.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, he's a selfish dick, but not undealable with. Killing him wasn't a bad move. But keeping him alive might've helped the saints as well.
herpaderp1470 The Boss does have some empathy. He displays loyalty toward friends, and even performed a mercy killing on Carlos. It's just that he's a power hungry gang boss who can't afford to show any weakness. He's also not irrational, as he displays an eye for tactics throughout the game. Maybe if Vogel had actually offered him a deal he would have said yes, but that never happened.

Not if you count the secret mission with Julius as the final mission of the game. Shows that he's a borderline sociopath who doesn't forget and doesn't forgive. Who's been corrupted by absolute power and turned into the thing he swore to destroy in SR1.

Am I the only one who kinda wanted the Ultor to win and actually clapped along with the people at 1:33? I mean Dane wasn't a bad guy + Imagine if you played as some other guy in Saints Row 2 and lost to Ultor (or played as and undercover Ultor agent). Then Ultor would renovate the whole Stillwater and THEN in Saints Row 3 (that wouldn't suck) THE REAL HERO (The Boss) would wake up from the coma and take back his city, fighting a more corporate enemy and not gangs, which would be a more original and better idea in my opinion! That would actually be a way better version of Saints Row 3! New Stillwater = new stuff + the gangs would come back in Saints Row 4. :D

One thing's still hurts my head, HOW THE HELL DID ULTOR GET TO MARS IN RED FACTION 1 ?!?!?!
If the retcon ending of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is anything to go by, the Saints went back to being a street gang so Ultor has nothing to do with them. If anything, the Saints probably often paid Ultor to stay off their backs and attack any other opposing gangs instead, but beyond that, no movie deals, no Saints branded clothing, or energy drinks. Ultor goes their own way and they get to Mars only to eventually be bumped off by the Red Faction and the EDF. God knows how bad the events of Red Faction 1 hurt Ultor's reputation on Earth.
There was the ending of the Ultor Exposed DLC in Saints Row 2, but the retcon ending in Gat Out ofHell ultimately undoes that. With this in mind, we probably have a time paradox. However, despite all of that, Volition said that Red Faction and Saints Row are not connected. I still prefer to think they are connected though.
They need to remake saints row 2 with the upgrades of 3 and 4

It annoys me when people complain that Saints Row is a rip off of GTA when in fact it's not, the Story and style is different, the only things linking it to GTA is that you can steal cars and kill pedestrians. If that's all it takes then all shooting games are the same and Call of Duty is a rip off of Medal of Honor and Forza is a rip off of Gran Turismo.

I just played the entire saints row series and I find tons of people arguing about old saints row vs the new saints row, can we agree that they are both fun?
HERES! BENDY! Both are fun but its more about personal preference, first 2 have enough fun but really serious moments to make it truly memorable. But saints row 3-4 is just goofy screw around antics. Still fun though!

The story with the gangs, the amazing story and cutscenes.... the main characters.... they slowly killed them all off and then we lost one of the best voice actors and they added aliens and super powers. bro if you want to do that, name the game something else. make a super hero game... lol

Musicislife Life I have played the first one it’s like saints row 2 but imagine if the only weapon you could aim with is the sniper rifle and you could not fly air craft
You should check it out, but it's hard to go back to after 2 improved everything in it.
The story for the first game is still really good though.

Ultor missions are the easiest. And Dane boss fight is a huge letdown. The Samedi boss can afford a military vehicle,but Dane Vogel had nothing but a pistol and some Masako dudes with rifles guarding him. LOL.
Yeah. A military vehicle has a lot of use in an office building
True, but Dane was still able to tank a couple rpg rockets without budging. I feel like the mission was went to be a pistol vs pistol western-style shootout, but I wanted to win the game quick
