This may be unpopular but I honestly like the mezco version the best. I had buyer's remorse with the neca version so I gave that to a friend who needed a Kong figure and I got the mezco version. Crazy thing is I just discovered it last week. To me it's the coolest looking official King Kong figure out there.
Good review. Something I find very disappointed about Neca and why it ranks lower imo: no Ann Darow/ blonde woman accessory. Kong holding a blonde is as iconic and important to the character of Kong (not counting when he's fighting Godzilla) as Godzilla's atomic breath to Godzilla, Thor's hammer to Thor, or Darth Vader's red lightsaber to Darth Vader. It just significantly subtracts to a King Kong figures value to me to not have a blonde for him (unless it's a iteration of Kong that doesn't involve a blonde like the 62 toho kong or monsterverse Kong).
Funny how the Mezco and Figuarts is almost(perfect) half the size of the neca. If you think about it, you can make a Kiko Kong custom (son of Kong) or A Mighty Joe Young custom.
NECA is my favourite for the head sculpt, because it's a dead-on 1933 Kong. I know they were going for a "generic" Kong, but they captured the 1933 expression perfectly. Body sculpt goes to Mezco though, because he looks furrier and the joints blend in better. Mezco is still a good "cartoon" version of the 1933 Kong. He also has the Fay Wray figure, which is a huge bonus. The NECA figure is only worth getting in the version with the accessories, and I picked up both of those versions. Nice to have a biplane and a Pteranodon, but still no Fay Wray! The SH Monsterarts version depends entirely on whether you want a 2005 Kong... Personally, in the aftermarket, I would sooner go for the McFarlane Toys one, which is a great 1933 sculpt too.
I don’t like the way that SH monster arts has massive joint gaps makes the figures not look realistic at all yeah it’s great for posing and crazy different poses I guess it’s good if you do photography but if you’re just a collector and you’re gonna put it on your shelf I made my neca King Kong on the Empire State building it looks 100 times better than every other Kong I have
NECA's decent, but the paint is flaking all around and it's size is not in scale with the other Godzillas, Mezco's good, but some have tight joints and the Monsterarts is cool and nice but it's limited right now. So I think, Monsterarts wins.
The “flaking paint” is actually from paint on the joints! When I tried to switch out the hands, I noticed that when I moved the joints, paint started to flake off! It was satisfying to scrape the paint off but, also informal as well! I will say though, the paint on kong still does like to melt off but it doesn’t flake! That’s from the joints!
The neca King Kong is it’s own figure that’s why it’s not in scale with the Godzilla figures. If it was in scale with the Godzilla figures it would be the monsterverse kong

In your Neca 64 goji review, Mezco Kong seemingly dwarfs 64 goji, while in this video, 62 goji(who’s fig is shorter than 64’s) is seemingly taller than mezco kong. I assume this is because of how u use your angles, that we are not getting exact size comparisons. Since u don’t use a ruler or measuring tape to give exact heights, can u tell us exactly how tall mezco kong is??
My cousin is pretty good at customizing figures, and sculpting. So I paid him $35 to customize Mattels Jurassic World Albertosaurus into a V-rex, and it sized up pretty well with the Neca King Kong.
It isn't and cannot be. It's an original design which is influenced by it. Kong's licensing is an absolute mess, which is why if you look at movie titles, merchandise names, and so forth closely you will notice some are named Kong Kong, others just Kong.
@@Havok91 now with that being said... It's absolutely the 1933 Kong with their own minor spin to avoid copyright and trademark and so forth lol Make sense? I'd suggest looking into the weird issues surrounding this, very interesting read.
@@StevensToyReviews I actually DID go look a little into it immediately after reading your comment and was surprised to find the small bits they changed to avoid the copyrights. One article said the fangs were evocative of '76 and the fur of a comic, and the scars apparently didn't become a thing until '05. I must've just zeroed in on that default head sculpt which is remarkably '33 as I see it. The copyright issue does make sense though. Seems individual studios trademarked their own designs of Kong but, he's stayed GENERALLY in the public domain.
I say neca is the best because the other two look like a angry beer belly dude who looks wierd and the monster arts is just a little kid neca looks exactly like the movie and has good articulated stuff
i wish i could have the sh monster arts kong (2005) but sadly its too expensive £250-£300 is shocking and if it does break than i just have broken my heart and my parents bank account
