We have 2 Hikoki guns and fire hundreds of nails every day. Sometimes the next strip of nails won't load upwards properly because the last 4 nails in the old strip might have dirt build up. We just push up the spring loader and hold it, then shoot the next nail and then always keeps going after that. Doesn't happen all the time, maybe 1 or 2 times a week.
Hey from Sweden fellow carpenter! You probably wont see this but I wanna say I love your channel, good editing, LOVE the chill music you use in the videos, and you seem like a really nice dude. Love coming home after a hard days work watching your vids! Keep em coming!
The wall leans in not to 'make it retain better' but because of the illusion that a vertical wall appears to lean out. The Romans knew this 2000 years ago when they constructed their many columns and incorporated such tricks that match the human eye's expectations.
He would have it pre-uploaded and choose a time to release it. 6am would have been when youtube is getting most of its traffic that's why he chose that time
Hitachi likes straight strips I’ve found. If the strip gets a little out of shape it gets stuck. Change the strip or cut the bent bit out and happy days.
Didn't know you needed 6' holes wow! Those will never be coming out. What about when they decide to rot away or one gets damaged. No way are you getting a post out. How long does those treated timbers last anyways??
Hitachi will always miss fife if there is any dirt in the magazine slide it stops the nails from feeding properly Abit of Dry glide on the metal strip and a wipe with a rag should sort it out 👍🏻
Yep for sure. Also i had paper from the collated nails get caught near the firing pin and cause intermittent mis fire.Take magazine of and clean/remove.Good guns though been running mine for 18 months.
In Australia, it is the hook from the brad gun. We ordered the small hook and have both on the gun, small hook for your belt and swing the big hook out for over brick walls.
Scott... Whats the verdict brother? If you had to buy only one nail bun... Paslode or Hitachi??? Keep up the good work. Its pissing down in England as well :-)
Hey Scott, have been using the Hitachi Cordless a lot recently. I also have experienced the misfiring after a few weeks of heavy use but found the culprit; It is the metal coil on the slide that pushes the nails into the feeder. The coil accumulates dirt and grime over time and it seems to hamper its ability to drive the nails tight to the top. ( Notice if it still misfires if you push on the nails retaining lever towards the top of the nailer next time) If not, then this was your problem. Clean it while extended with the Passlode spray and a rag once in a while and it should keep it in top top condition. Hope this helps. Cheers from Canada !
always stringline from the back side of post using a packer to hold stringline off post. (horizontal timber side) as thats the side that matters the most in regards to having straight t&g - ESPECIALLY with round posts as we all know timbers never dead on square/same profile or round.
Hello from straya! Love the videos mate. Quick question as I'll be building a similar retaining wall at my place soon. How much of a lean did you put the posts on?
Hi Scott, @2:32, looks like a round cement base to pack the post off the clay. Are they off the shelf somewhere or? Be nice to see a vid on where you buy your timber etc, For the d.i.yer we pay through the nose, any tips on suppliers? Thanks
How the heck have you not reached 100k subs yet your adventures are too good not to be pull your finger out boyo maybe get putter to put on some sexy dungarees
I think in damp weather the paper collation gets caught up in around the firing pin and doesn’t allow nails to feed properly. Just a quick clean and a wd40 and back to good as new 😎
Traffic safety tips 1: NEVER turn your back on oncoming traffic. 2: Always have an escape option. You never know who is on their phone or otherwise distracted.
Sweet vid bro I got taught a trick the other day with holding post up etc. Ya have ya ground beam ...mark ya post at height of intersection then drive a 4 inch in half way and sit ya post back in resting on that nail... then use a tek head 100mm screw to fasten in place it's much faster n ya dont waste gun nail 🤙🤓
Hey Bro, my hitachi was miss firing the same really badly.. realised it would work fine if I push the nail clip thingy down when firing, i think if it gets full of grit/dust the nails slide down properly. I gave mine a clean out with WD40 and it hasn’t mis fired once since then, about a month ago...
cool vid Scott. Did you need a structural engineer to tell you what to build? Need to get one of those nail guns, Milwaukee have brought out one now with double clip and rapid fire, hope they send one to you to review!
I would have been tempted to build hollow block wall and face it with timber. Would have lasted 50 years or more... still though, nice work. And timber is allot nicer to work with than hollow blocks.

Chappie did a great job with the digger.
It's the spring on the hitachi that doesn't push the nails up enough. Bit of oil on it will help. 👌
That pupper is so smoll!
Bravo Scott 👍👍👍👍
5am and watching yr vid! A bit to addicted!
Phew! I just purchased the Hitachi (Hikoki) nailer. Don't want to hear it's a dud. Great (wet) video.
You have to unlock it and push some other button and charge the battery. Hey I know a guy that's selling a Hilti if you're interested.
The hikoki nail guns are good. Just need a clean by the firing pin that's all.
@@pauldavidstrange7384 Looking forward to using it today. So simple, so quiet, no horrible smell.

I hate mud. Had to work in it last week, not nice. But I do like the barges on that gable end, pretty fancy.
I'm a fan of that Gable end too. There are 5 more, exactly the same, on the house
Surely those wood posts will rot in a few years, why did you not choose concrete ?
Treated posts 50+ year lifespan
@nzischill Thanks
Hey scott if the hitachi isn’t loading nails usually pushing up on the follower in the magazine to forward the nails will fix it
Lot of work brother! I’m glad Cameron showed up to do the heavy lifting 😂😎
We couldn't do it without him 😂
Lol at the edit at 5:24, subscribed.
Also just a heads up hitachi nailguns missfire when down to last couple nails, try put another set of nails in slot and see if that helps

I can only imagine the cost of this retaining wall 😂
Guessing at least $15k usd. Not sure about NZ currency.
Gotta be more than that. For all that excavation and timber. Up in the $30,000 usd range
Lol wtf are all talking about no one would pay even close to 30 grand for this wall are you mad !

Gracias amigo!! I’ve actually done excavation work at my own home and it is terribly expensive when people start breaking ground.

A very nice video indeed. That 'Fortress' is liking mighty sturdy. Looking forward to the next exciting part of this series! Cheers from Holland
Why would you take on a job like this in winter mate?
Might be a silly question, but why not built your retaining wall with concrete foundations and cinder blocks?
Because we like to put our post in the ground
We do that for houses down here. Client was after a timber wall to match another one on the property
The Hitachi does make a nice sound compared to the Paslode
Imagine rescuing hedgehogs from those holes!

hate to say it but I was hoping you would slip into one of the holes to see if you would hit the bottom
I'm glad I didn't
scot make sure you put some agi line behind the retaining walls. water pressure (hydrostatic pressure) is no.1 reason for retaining wall failures.
A very interesting and different way of installing a retaining wall. I'm looking forward to the end result to see how it all comes together

Great build! but that muddy ground looks hard to work in.
Why do you need such an expensive hammer? At 1:50 you tap the nail with your hammer and drive it in with your thumb. Super powers? :)
