Another great podcast! Wasn't able to watch it live this time as work has been busy. So glad you are able to do this with so many great breeders! Tons of great information and tips to help out new people like me. Plus also gives us the chance to know some of these people! Thank you blazin and all of your guests!
I had a question of you don't mind. I always hear that breeding females early results in smaller litters. How about the males though? If they are willing to breed early (say less than a year) does it affect them in any way?
@@joeyrayburn283 I have had different results than others. I have gotten litters pf 13 babies with moms turning a year old when giving birth. You do have to be careful don’t let them get to skinny. I have bred similar age males same thing good litters. Some are definitely worse breeders younger less confidence. Others are insane breeders just a lot of the time I do to less females. Seems like maybe best to two females when younger. I did test some to more females but I won’t have results for 3-4 months
@@joeyrayburn283 a lot of my average year old girls dropped 9 babies with 2 or so slugs. Which I think is still great numbers. On the other hand some have had 5. It seems like the animals I produced here with the maximum amount of time to grow before brumation/breeding were the best. So depending on the age/size I might give it another year if not born here
Ah gotcha. Ya I'm not to worried about my females to much. They are differently healthy with plenty of stored fat even after brumation and over 18 months old. Was more curious on my male which is only 7months old but is dropping sperm plugs and pacing his enclosure everyday. Other than being inexperienced it won't affect him really at all then huh.
