as a gen z (16) who is from Seoul, I can say confidently that these are not "average" people, many people my age are lost, completely destroyed by school, lonely, and full of self hated, and with no real interests. It's kind of sad to see that many people will continue to see an idealized version of what life as a Korean youth is like. These are rich, outgoing, charismatic people with extraordinary unique skills.

these kids are so well-rounded. My wish to the youth who's seeing this:
Don't rush into pressure, time, don't rush into changing your appearance at such a young age. Your face will naturally develop and will unravel more as you age. Although I never understood the need for double eyelid surgery, as someone who has Eurasian features, I think you guys look younger with natural eyes! Instead, focus on being happy and enjoying your youth. Never take it for granted and don't worry about school too much-- you will learn more about life once you finish studying.

Video titled "What it's like to be Gen-Z in Seoul".
Proceeds to introduce kids that represent what the new generation wants.
Nothing mentioned about kids cramming their brains out in studying, or about teenagers gone astray.
Since when did "K-Pop dances and teen rap shows to fashion trends"(as said in the description) start representing a whole generation?
I know this isn't supposed to be some documentary on the reality of Korean teens, but the title is just way too misleading.

Op, how old are if you don’t mind me asking? Because your comment is very reassuring.
Watching this video made me think damn I was born at the wrong time because it really does seem (worldwide) that current 15-16 yr olds have freedom to do what they want. I was born in 2000, and my age group falls between millenials and gen z and I often think to when I was 16, me and my peers did not have opportunities like this. We did not live lifestyles like this.
I started to wonder if this is changing as gen z grows; traditional media and social media always promote ideas that gen z are fresh minded, very liberal, tech savvy and have more prospects than millenials. Of course there are criticism as well, usually within a political discussion stating that genz promote censorship and are sjws etc.
I find this description (on both ends) incredibly hard to relate to despite often being thrown in the gen z category. Not that I relate to millenials either.
Anyway, if you are around the age of the people in this video, thanks for shedding light on the reality. When I was 16, examples of young talent were also promoted and it made me feel terrible - I thought why am I not as free and successful as these individuals. I guess as time went on, I tried to forget about that, but I’m starting to see it again with the new generation. If anything, I hope current 16 yr olds do not feel pressured by content like this. Your youth lasts a long time. I know that ever more so now that I’ve hit my 20’s.
And to anyone else reading this comment, if you are around the age of 16, I’d love for you to share your experiences on life. What is a typical day for you? What does your life consist of? Even those who think their lives are mundane and boring, please share it nonetheless. I wonder how much has truly changed.

everyone is talking abt how they aren't "normal" teens, but majoring in traditional korean dance or going to a performing arts school is actually not considered an "abnormal" route for korean teens. but some of the other teens shown, the skateboarding kids, fashion-interest teens can be considered pretty "abnormal". "normal" teens wouldn't have time to go skate boarding or be able to splurge on "alt fashion". but like I said before, performing art high schools are common through-out korea, and especially in seoul where there are prestigious art schools and seoul has a high concentration of rich families that are able to support these kids. but the places shown in the video are representative of locations seoul teenagers frequent.

    ❗long comment ahead
actually it would be really great if they dive more deeper into the "high school rapper guy" (obiegogle / yoon jiho).
starting from 2019, the teen rappers in sk actually kind of have their own world, while still not fully detached from the k-hiphop itself. i think it happened because of how fast growing and diverse the teen rapper community is starting from that year.
people started to know about the "essentials crew" of them, like TNC and frank starting from 2019 because of hsr 3. and then after hsr 4 aired, people also started to know about the others like livrside, bustdownhood, and allroundplayers; even their close friends who doesn't participate in hsr 4 like flat earth society, woojoo, litrilla, gyun, and the others.
the ones that i said before were already pretty big in the underground k-hiphop community before they joined hsr, wich could be a reason why some of them doesn't really have the need to join hsr.
the growth of their community and popularity are getting faster because a lot of k-hiphop fans are starting to listens to music from soundcloud; as for the artists, with soundcloud they now have more freedom and possibilities, because they can release songs without needing to sign contract or such.

    • here i am talking about the ones from hsr 3 - hsr 4 because i feel like the ones from previous seasons doesn't really feel that "different" from the rest of over-ground
k-hiphop industry. i also feel like the fandom of those two sometimes could be very different, especially the ones who has been a fan of said teen rappers before hsr 3 & 4 started.
    • yes, musician in sk has used soundcloud before 2019. some rappers like vinxen also has been big in soundcloud before that. but there are not much listeners who used soundcloud as there are now starting from 2019

I don't think the video tries to show off the life of every south korean teenager, but instaed of Gen-Z teenagers with different backgrounds and stories. Each one of them has a story or a purpose to tell, it does not focus on a typical day of them but on what is in trend today amoung south korean teens and the influence and impact of Korean culture to them and the world. Although it was short, I liked it because in this video you can see several boys and girls that come from the world of entertainment, such as the rapper, the duo who participated in a fashion show or the girls from SOPA (school of perfoming arts), a school in which many kpop idols graduated, speak on their hobbys or passions. An interesting perspective because generally when I imagine a typical south korean teenager, I imagine it as one very stressed with the study/work and without time to have fun, and although these teens in the video are 1 case in millions, it shows that they have also a great importance for the development and expansion of the Korean wave!🇰🇷
Plus, the last girl freckles are so pretty! I don't see many koreans with freckles so I think it looks beautiful on her, remind me of Felix from Stray Kids, such an unique feature

Also I do know teenagers in Korea are different that the rest of the world because they study for 12 hours at school and start working really hard for their future, righr now there is thousands of teenagers training to be idols or even in art schools, that isn't a thing for the rest of the world. They are much disciplinated than the rest of the youth world. I'm 20 years old and honestly BTS as teenagers and all the idols training since their teenage years inspired and motivate me so much, I really need to work very day for my dreams, even at the tiniest stuff.

Like a comment said, i also think i didn't enjoyed at all my teenager years, i mean, i'm still part of Generation Z just that i'm a young woman born at the ends of the 90s. I want to do a lot of things and i'm still figuring out how to do it, i want my family to be proud of me. I don't know how i'll get where i want to be, but i just know i'll be there.
Guys, who are still in their 16, don't get pressure by getting done a lot of things. Take your time, i know it's hard and it's a lot of pressure just seeing everyone else accomplishing their own business, or your family making pressure over you... but don't even mind them, what you need is to trust in yourself. You have you and whoever wants to approach you or support you, then it's welcome! and if not, then just gently leave them out. Just trust with all your guts in you guys and eventually you'll be there ♡.

The Lord Jesus Christ became the Savior of sinners (all humans) by coming down from Heaven & dying on the 🪵 wooden cross for our sins. God raised Him from the dead, and Jesus is now a living Savior with God in heaven.
But don't lose hope. Anyone can be saved from their sins and from going to hell in two easy, peasy steps:
      1. Realize that you are a sinner who CAN'T SAVE YOURSELF from going to the lake of fire (forever) 🔥 based on your good deeds, your own philosophy, and other religions.
      2. Realize that you need to believe in your heart ❤️ that ONLY Jesus Christ died for your sins.
If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart ❤️ that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart ❤️ man believe unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Congratulations! 🎊 👏 After this life, you're on your way to heaven forever! ⬆️💯🥳

the education system if anything is more advance in korea than other places because south koreans frequently rank first and high in international math and science competitions and have the highest percentage of students pursuing university. but by when evaluating the humanity of the education system, korea's education system is definitely taxing on the students since it requires them to study from 8am to at least 9pm every day plus several extra curriculars.

But Jesus' temporary death is not the final event. 3 days later He rose from the grave conquering sin and death altogether.

Ngl these teenagers look a lot older than 16/17. If you came here to Australia, a lot of the 16 yr olds would still look quite young. It kind of shocked me when I processed that all these people were 16/17. Ntm these people have a lot of freedom (e.g. going around the city by yourself), that also shocked me a lot. Its kind of refreshing to see at least some students not stuck at a desk studying but I know thats probably not the reality of most students, especially in Korea.
(These are not directed insults of any kind)
