Thanks for documenting. This time capsule will be very helpful in the future. The 80s cereal aisle was amazing. So many rad cereals! #StayCrunchy #80sKid
I totally remember that episode of Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood with that cereal aisle. Not only was it interesting as a whole, but I also like how realistic the atmosphere of it was, seeing a lady shopping in the background while the clip was going on. I think it’s just as iconic as the episode where Mr Rogers is shown a video of how crayons are made in the Crayola Factory. P.S. I like how you have E.T, Willow, The Goonies, and Gremlins memorabilia on your shelves in the background. They make a great bunch.
That was great to see the old school cereal aisles! One thing I noticed to contrast the modern aisles is how tie-in cereals, like Ghostbusters, Pac-Man, etc. used to have a lot more prominence. There's still tie-ins of course, but in that modern Ralph's aisle I only spotted a small section with Honey Maid, Oreo-Os and Wendy's Frosty. Seems like most tie-in cereals last less than a year now, and mostly just show up at Walmart. My local grocery store barely stocks them either. Most of what I see now are expanded varieties of the classics, like the Cheerios section or the Cinnamon Toast Crunch section, etc.
I remember many of those cereals from the 80's. My mom would regularly buy healthy cereal, kids cereal for us was a treat. I had to go to other peoples house to eat kids cereal. Soda was also a treat. That's what I get for a mom who worked in the medical field, wanting her kids to eat heathy.
I miss Mr. Rogers too. Watched him all the time as a kid. Rice Krispies Treats were my favorite! Wish they still sold them. There is a Shoprite by me that sells the Quisp cereal.
So glad you pointed out the Snack-Pak Variety minis. As a kid my mom would never get us big boxes of sweet cereal. So every so often she'd let me and my brother get one of the Snack-Pak's which had the sweeter stuff like Corn-Pops, Frosted flakes, and Froot Loops Etc. We always made a mad dash for the isle to fight over who got to pick. I remember they weren't always the same because sometimes they had different ones. I always tried to get the ones that had Coco Crispies.
I was really hoping you'd include a clip from that episode of the 80s Twilight Zone because that's one of the most vivid in my mind and also one of the most overlooked. Well done! Such a great nostalgia trip.
While this wasn't really a retrospective on cereal aisles in media, a great featured example of a '90s cereal aisle would have been the Malt O Meal commercial with the people duck walking down the cereal because they want to shop for Malt O Meal cereals. That commercial features a lot of classic cereals from all the major brands on the shelves of that commercial's cereal aisle.
The cereal aisle is one of my favorite parts whenever I go to Walmart Not only for Classic cereals of other cereal companies But also interesting and new cereal flavors I have tried icee cereal Recently and I thought it was good for what it is and I could feel a little bit of the cold but not by whole lot overall, amazing as always.
Oh I miss seeing a lot of those cereals as a kid. And I bet you can find some videos from the 70's. I know I've seen some videos of grocery stores from then on here.
You know what’s crazy about that clip from Ralph’s? Unlike Walmart and other stores, there are hardly any generic brand/knock off brands, and the aisle is STILL 15x bigger than in Central Europe haha😅 our cereal aisle is more like a cereal shelf… just cini minis (cinnamon toast crunch) Chocapic, Cookie Crisp, Lion, nesquik, strawberry minis, Chokella and a few granolas / knock offs. No Kellogg’s either in Central Europe. But in the UK and Spain theres at least a real aisle, about the same size as Publix in SE USA. Also noticed malt o meal discontinued blueberry muffin toasters 😢😢 again.
I lived in the Netherlands back in 1994-1995 and, at least back then, the cereal _section_ in a typical Dutch supermarket consisted of 2 or 3 kinds of cornflakes, Frosted Flakes, and sometimes a muesli or _one_ other sugary cereal such as Froot Loops. Not sure what the cereal situation is like over there now but your comment brought back memories!
@@jackabug2475 I was there for a month last year - same as Czech Republic 😂 a few Kellogg’s varieties (coco krispies, frosted flakes, honey corn flakes) and a couple of nestle knock offs plus some Quaker muesli/oatmeal 😆
@@DaveRichardsonFitness That many different breakfast cereals? In the Netherlands? That's 2-3 times as many as were available when I was there. 🤣 Did you get a chance to try the traditional Dutch breakfast of buttered bread with candy sprinkles?
In the movie, "Zombieland", there's a scene that takes place in a grocery store. Maybe you'd be interested in looking at the cereal aisle in that scene too?
Great episode. Really miss the old cereal aisles, there was so much variety back then and everything tasted so much better. So the aisles are super boring, smaller, and there isn't much to choose from. Not to mention a lot of the sweet cereals are too toned down.
Thanks for the trip down memory aisle with all those clips! You must have been saving some of those up for a while... I miss Mr. Rogers too. One of my heroes. Finally, AWESOME hoodie, what I could see of it... where did you get it? Happy Pride Month!
I beg to differ, Mr. Rogers. Cereal has been more affordable and you can usually get four boxes under 10 dollars, depending on which cereal brand for the week.
I’m trying to find this video maybe it got taken down because this guy revealed who really owns/runs the cereal aisle and it’s basically like 3 big companies that own the cereal but there’s a like one or two cereal brands that aren’t under a mega corporation
You really should consider just doing sporadic episodes rather than ditching the channel completely I’m sure the regimented Saturday schedule causes burnout instead you could do like quarterly videos that are longer and fine over the course of that 3 months or whatever. Maybe even just an end of the year cereal recap at least.
Wish they would've brought back a better version of the SMORE'S cereal. Kinda of a bummer that you've decided to end Cereal Time. But, hopefully you'll find another interest to create more videos on.
Wow you actually did it! I commented a few years ago about Manhunter and you said this was in the works. This is the greatest CT video ever imo because of nostalgia. Can’t help but feel I had some small part. Thanks Gabe!
Love mining the background of old media for 80s/90s food stuffs and advertisements. Recently stumbled across this home movie of a family grocery shopping in 1991. ua-cam.com/video/0le01q4Wsew/v-deo.html They hit the cereal aisle around the 4 minute mark. Where's Waldo hawking Life cereal? Was a glorious time to be alive. Video left me filled with pangs of nostalgia and a strong desire to have my tubes tied.
Hey, I don't know if you watched the My Little Pony series, "Friendship is Magic", (I'm assuming you probably didn't.) but one of the six main ponies on that show is named Applejack. I'm sure it was more than a coincidence that they named her after the cereal.
I certainly didn’t watch that series but I did grow up with two sisters and applejack was a character then too. Named after the drink not the cereal. Though I always assumed the cereal is also named after the drink
The world needs mr rogers today we really do
I don’t remember cereals ever being stacked flat like that. It might have just been that particular store.
🎶 Cereal Aisle, Cereal Aisle, Cereal Aisle, whoa, it’s a Cereal Aisle! 🎶
I didn't know throwback boxes were a thing in the 90's.
Thanks for documenting. This time capsule will be very helpful in the future. The 80s cereal aisle was amazing. So many rad cereals! #StayCrunchy #80sKid
I cracked up at the Stone Cold clip. The contrast between the upbeat Cereal Time music and serious movie clip of a woman being held hostage was great.

Well we’re almost there. Nearing the end my friends. All good things must come to an end. One chapter ends and another one begins. 😢
why is he ending the channel? i'm new here and it's sad hearing this
I have that episode of Mr Rogers at the grocery store on dvd and thought it was great.
General Mills had so many varieties in the store back in the day

i’m sad you’re not gonna be around to cover the new 6th monster cereal. you predicted the future again, it’s green!
I love this channel. I am weepy right now
now it is my job to find clips of the cereal isle during my childhood era, the early-mid 2000’s

I love the clip of Mister Rogers Neighborhood where Mister Rogers visits the cereal aisle
5:31 one of the froot loops large size looks weird.
Because, there is a special edition retro style box to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Froot Loops!
Also where did you get the instrumental from for your theme song 🎵 🤔
Thank you so much for viewing cereal to all of us over 9 years.😂❤
There was a scene in the movie, "Oh, God!" filmed in a cereal aisle.

The cereal aisle is certainly one of my favorite aisles in the supermarket!
Consider yourself very lucky! The cereal aisle in the UK is a sad state of affairs next to the amazing selection you get over there!

I can’t believe you showed a clip of Hilda at the beginning I did not know you knew that show.
Looking back at the variety, can’t believe the choices we had!
In the movie, "Zombieland", there's a scene that takes place in a grocery store. Maybe you'd be interested in looking at the cereal aisle in that scene too?

I had no idea there was more than one flavor of Oh's.
Too bad we don’t have a lot of vintage clips of 70s and prior box aisles.
