You are the man. I wish you would make more videos. You just rambling will give a bunch of knowledge. Maybe do videos on different steps of building and how to optimize each step of the build
I agree that you should hire an engineer, PE, for doing HVAC analysis. There are folks that can run Wrightsoft, or other programs, very well, but they are not educated on heat transfer and fluid flow. While it is not rocket science, understanding the science behind thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics is important. Besides, can the guy on youtube stamp drawings. Not everyone on youtube is correct. As a PE in Mech and Structural, it is easy to sift the bad from the good. Scott, you are in the good group.
We are here because you were on Matt Risingers channel and we really really appreciate your personality, detail and sincerity. So much to learn and appreciate with your work. East Canada is watch😊🍁👍🇨🇦
Scott, thanks for all the advice and your ingenuity! I lost my home this past December to tornado. Now we are planning on rebuilding. I have endlessly watched Matt Resinger videos on building the monopoly home. You however, have taken it to the next level. No one and I mean no one is looking at the building equation from your perspective. So a big thank you. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to bring us this information. It is much appreciated as the most important things about building is never seen. Keep up the great work and thank you for documenting the detailing an affordable tight built home. I know your channel will grow and you will prosper once more people learn all the advantages of building tight. My builder is willing and we have already changed our ideas to your methods. I'm going to try and duplicate your prescribed methods on video. I will be sure to give credit where credit is due when I video it. Keep up the good work!
@@destinationstudios-thediyh4941 Yes, I incorporated a lot of what Scott and Matt talked about. We are just about to move into the new home. The conditioned attic I built is working well. I have all the attributes whole home ventilation, whole home dehumidifier, I have a fresh air system that can be heated when the venthood is in use. Plus did a slab to roof closed cell foam system.
I made a manual with almost all of these same things that I learned from you And Matt riesinger. First time owner builder. Building 4 homes this way (all family members). Thank you for your ingenuity and generosity to share.
I just interviewed a home builder friend and posed the question about building high-performance spec homes while making a profit. He looked at me like I was crazy for suggesting this. This video series will be great to send to him. Thanks for paving the way!
Pioneers always have a hard row to hoe. In 2006 I tried to get a home builder here in Charlotte, NC to build our home using what was then called "Smart Framing," showing him articles from Fine Home Building Magazine for details. He gave a million reasons why he could NEVER build that way and I had to find another builder. Fast forward 6yrs and guess what I find...an article written by him in FHB (issue 226) detailing how "Advanced Framing" has become their company standard. You gotta be kidding me! Change is very difficult before it becomes normal. But things do come around in time.
@@branchandfoundry560 so funny I am in charlotte too and most homes are not buildt energy effcietly because the government hasn't updated building codes even.
Hi Scott, I really like your process and mindset. I am building my own house as an owner builder in Bay Area California. Finding labor who can handle complex process for high quality material has been really tough. I tried very similar approaches as you did with framing (your Matt Risinger video) to make things really simple for everyone. Lets see how it turns out but hearing you makes me feel confident that my approach to solve these problems is possible and has merit. Thank you’
I'm about to start my build as an owner builder and have been researching everything to build a well built house without breaking the bank and I'm so glad I found your content on Matt Risinger's channel and now your own channel. My wife and I will be in Austin this weekend and was wondering if there was a roughed home of yours we could drive by and see. Either way I appreciate your knowledge and spreading it, I definitely agree that more builders should be building better.
Thank you!! I’ve been going nuts trying to solve southern roof building method here in Georgetown. Doing open cell in attic. Only weatherized osb has a radiant barrier made useless by the foam. Just don’t want to spend on a double deck roof (and considered “perfect roof” instead of foam, which just seemed like a pain for roofers and solar installers. And Risinger calls his “perfect roof” and puts foam in anyway? Technically no longer reflecting the method.) Now if you could just help me with my winter build. I’d rather have SYP subfloors. I think they perform better but may spend on the Advantech just for the little time it spends on site.
Hi Scott, really appreciate you doing this series. All things equal… could we get away with not taping the roof deck if we are foaming the rafters? There are so many penetrations from a shingled roof, surely some of that air tightness from the tape is negated. What do you think?
Hello @Scott True Builds, I am in the North Eastern New England, we are looking to build in NH or ME and its going to be an OFF-grid home!!! And the home is going to be a Passive Solar Double (Skillion or Clerestory) / (Contemporary Modern) Shed Roof(Open concept over the Living, Kitchen and Entrée area's and standard roofing construction over the bedrooms, bathrooms and Laundry based on a Single first floor (with a full basement (Radiant floor heating) using ICF) with a Metal roof home what a mouth full, ha ha ha!!! And It's going to be very tight home with a ERV obvious!!! So, I have been looking into Advanced High Performance 24 OC but I have never done it before, just used to 16 OC and I am going to be using Zip R sheathing is a must for me!!! As we going to start this project, I and my Wife are going to start a UA-cam channel throughout, from planning, cutting down the tree's all the way threw completion!!! The question in my mind would be about Dry wall??? And in the end its got to be on a BUGET !!!
Builders don't explain or educate perspective home buyers, which is a shame!!! Builders give you a choice of colors and the closes things to efficiencies, yeah you can get an Energy Star Refrigerator and pick the color of paint, ha ha ha!!! I love Building, maybe to much!!! Love the smell of Saw Dust in the Morning!!! Just wondering if I may call you and we can compare thought and concepts if that is possible???
@@cindystokes8347 That grey layer on Forcefield is not a radiant barrier. It's a weather barrier that happens to be grey/silver. So it would go to the outside and you wouldn't be spray foaming against it.

I’m going to build my house this way. I’m having the plans drawn up now. The HVAC system of coarse came up by the engineer drawing the plans and he had questions about how the ducts will be run since the middle of the house is all vaulted ceiling. I know no hvac companies in my area would be able to answer this I believe they are only interested in oversizing and building leaky ducts installed by 18yo kids for the most profit! If I asked them about ERV’s or adding a dehumidifier they look at me like I’m crazy! Who could I get to design the proper system on a budget?

Building my first home ourselves for our family in Tennessee, would love to read through your manual you put together if your willing to share!
I predict you're going become a big influencer in the industry. Great balance of practicality and high quality! I hope to see many more videos

Hey Scott,
Thanks the great video.
I live in Georgia. Who else besides a HVAC company would I call to get my HVAC sizes correctly?
Thanks

Scott, you mentioned Zip having varying cost differences depending on market conditions. Have you look at Forcefield by GP? Under $20/sheet currently
Yes, Forefield is a decent option. I will use it sometimes.

Where are you located? Or at least which climate zone?
Bastrop, TX. Climate zone 2
Guadalupe County sucks. The explosive growth! Builders are building expensive cr@p!
