British Columbia mines threaten Washington waters

A legacy of mining development in British Columbia has already deteriorated the Similkameen River, yet proposals to greatly expand the Copper Mountain Mine threaten this transboundary watershed, Native American tribes and other local residents, and endangered salmon and steelhead. Washington state must demand action from British Columbia on mining regulatory reform before it's too late!

Wai' limlemt for sharing this information. I live along the Similkameen River and have raised the red flag regarding the mine being out of compliance over and over again for years. The BC ministries of Mining, Environment, Health, and Department of Fisheries are in silos. The mine was recently fined $51K for being out of compliance on their discharge permit for years and years. What an insult. The fine does not even an amount to one person's annual salary at the mine.
