Good morning guys! Love my new and setup Leolani Mango Tenor PU & Acoustic FX!! The review showed how to use the FX great it sounds... really enjoy the reviews and chats. The sound samples are amazing 🎶
I have listened to your podcasts on my phone, laptop and through my headphones. While nothing beats good headphones, you do a great job with your audio and even on crappy laptop speakers you can hear the difference. Kudos
They all sound fantastic. Sometimes I get lost in the beautiful songs of the sound samples and forget to listen to tone. But there’s just something about those spruce moonbird series that get me every time. Definitely on my wishlist!
They sound fantastic. But on the ut200, you have all the Spectrum of the sound. According to me, treble, midrange and bass are all dynamic and you can hear each part of the sound. It will be interesting to put low g to have more mellow sound as ut200 is very clear
I played both the Koa and the Spruce Models in a Store. They both sound amazing but I ended up buying the Moonbird / UT200. Very clear and punchy tone plus I liked the Headstock a lot more
I prefer the spruce. Listening right now only Bluetoothed thru hearing aids. Will switch to headset, go thru this again. (I’m planning to purchase this concert aNueNue in spruce top.)
It's a hard call, but I think I prefer the spruce slightly. But really, you need both obviously ;) Thank you for all the sound samples, especially the back-to-back part.
I don’t have any historical “proof” but it would make sense that the first “Hawaiian” ukuleles were made from koa, thus the “original” perpetuating Hawaiian sound. You can’t get that from any ukes that use wood other than koa which offers that “warm” and all encompassing sound, almost as if the individual notes subordinate themselves to each other and blend together as a group. The spruce (and to a slightly lesser degree cedar) seem to offer up more individual note clarity and separation. I hear this consistently when the insturments are compared. That said, I dont’ always hear the distinctions every time and of course all my subjective two cents worth. But there is no doubt that no one ukulele does it all soundwise. Thanks for all these really great podcast/reviews. Valuable insights and info.
How come the spruce top Moonbird doesn't seem to want to stay in tune? Whole the Koa does stay in tune? Something about the headstocks or tuners, or strings or why?? What's that all about?
I like the full tone, to my ears, of the Koa. It has its own sound and that sound is very full & pleasing to my ear. The spruce is very clear on the treble but lacks the full sound of the koi that I hear. Just my old ears, I guess. I like that breast bone vibrating sound of the Koa!
Th spruce almost sounds like it has more reverb than the Koa but both sound great. I'm on the fence about the slotted headstock. The spruce headstock seems more balanced visually. (comments for soprano versions)
Now switched to headset. Koa is different, perhaps better for this piece. Still I like the spruce top aNueNue, plan to purchase the concert. Will talk to you when I order to choose strings. Will be playing acoustic strictly. NOT advanced talent or musician. Just addicted to ukulele.
How long does it generally take to get the reviewed ukuleles on your website? Did you ever think of having a link on your website for, “Recently reviewed”? Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to share what you think. Wes
Thanks for the feedback. I usually put out an emailer a few days after a review with links to the instruments, but I'll try to put them here as well and the “Recently reviewed” section at the site is a great idea too. Mahalo!

The spruce is definitely on my wishlist too!

These are growing on me, I don't love the shape but so amazing sounding.
Everyone loves the shape and it's functional
They look as beautiful as they sound to me.
Titanic conspiracies, airplane farts, hmmm. 🤔All the ukes sound great, just different qualities of sound and tone. Great episode guys.
Andrew do you still have that soprano aNeuNeu you opened with? That's the best soprano to my ears I've ever heard.
Ooo, yeah I was about to list it. Pretty awesome little uke.

The Koa sounds compressed and midrange rich. The spruce sounds like it has a bit broader range, with a scoop in the middle.

Lots of information!
Can you tell me what model that first soprano was, please?
