Just swapped out the alternator on my Holden Commodore, thank you so much for this video. Gave me the confidence and know how to get it done.
Holden wanted $650 for the alternator plus about $500 labor costs. Managed to find a genuine alternator online for $290! (AUD)

This helped me do mine. I saw that you used a 15mm socket for a couple parts, so that took about an hour of searching time out of the project for me. I took me about 45 minutes to do it, mostly because I knew what to expect after watching this. Thanks for posting.

Now I know why I love old cars, we have 2 ls1s for daily drivers and the wife's alternator just died. It's not going to be a 10 minute job like our 67 impala. Great video mate thanks.
yeah those classic cars are so much easier to work on. Parts are easy to get to. This new stuff makes no since to me. Why put the alternator at the bottom when thats a part that needs to be replaced more frequently than other parts. Thanks for the compliment. Take good care of that 67. Sweet!!!

Thanks much man. My seven year old battery finally died and I think it put enough strain on the alternator, it took it out with it. Got a new battery and AC Delco alternator. Your video was a big help, made the job easy. Car is back up and running!

@@hallwayz1 yes everything was helpful but Gp Audio custom built me a Faulty alternator for my Chevy SS . So am going to buy a stock Alternator and Reinstall the alternator . Yup yup thank you again
@@jeromeski100 okay cool. That's messed up about the faulty alternator. Go with the AC Delco factory. I hear you can't go wrong with that one. The next install should be much easier since you've already done it once. Good luck.

The alternator warning in my 08 G8 GT went on today along with the battery light, and the display indicated "Reduced Power Mode" or something like that. Found your video and now I am confident I could replace it on my own. THANK YOU for uploading, now I know what to expect going into the job - gonna save a good chunk of money. Good lookin out for us G8 guys!
Yup.. Same thing happened to me. "WARNINGS" don't lie...lol. If I can do it, anybody with tools can do it. Go for it and save that money. Its not rocket science...lol. Thanks for the comment & subbing. G84LIFE!!!!!
@@hallwayz1 Thanks! What did you do to get the bracket off of the old alternator at around 10:45? Just beat it with a hammer until it comes apart?
I just tapped it off with a hammer and it came right off. Or you could pry it apart with a flathead screwdriver. I needed two hands so I couldn't film it. My bad...
@@hallwayz1 All good, I pried it apart with a large screw driver and hammer and it came loose.

Thank you Jeff. I just recently acquired an 09 Silver GT like yours. I couldn't find a video either on changing out the alternator, so thanks for taking the time to do one! A new AC/Delco is in route. I know nothing about this car except it screams when it's runnin right! You showed some pitfalls to watch out for. I like the fact you check your work 3 times. I don't know how you pulled it off with a clean sweatshirt. You da man! BTW, thank goodness I have my backup 01 Grand Prix GTP. It didn't like being shuffled out of the garage when the G8 showed up, but she is sure liking me driving her every day while the "Silver Bullet" takes a nappy! Will get er dun! Thank again!

Thanks for this video! It helped me get my alternator changed today on my 09 GT. I had the old one on the floor about the time USPS slowed up with the replacement. Amazon Prime is a great thing.

matVEL777 yeah man... Alternators are bound to go bad at some point. I believe my amp install was too much for it. But it was going bad before that. Thanks for the compliment.

Being that I'm not a mechanic and had never done this before, I think I did awesome. The bottom line is that it worked. The blueprint wasn't available to me so I pretty much winged it. I'm looking forward to seeing your version. Thanks for your input 👍.

@juan I realized that after the fact...lol. Like I said before, I had no vids of this to go off on. It's true you do not have to take the bracket off. It's whatever works best for you. Thanks the comment 👍.

What do you know about oil sensor light on the dash?.. Replaced the sensor and cleared the code but STILL has the same issue?...any ideas?
You have an 08? I'm not too sure about that light you are referring to. The red Atari guage's in the center console? If so, i'm not too sure about that. If you have any concerns about the oil pressure, please have that checked right away. You don't want to go down that road unless you plan on modding it. It could be an oil pump or bearing issues. Have it checked.
More than likely need an oil pump or have damage to the harness.

I haven't been under my GXP for this yet, but wouldn't it be easier from the bottom? I will let you know here soon. If it is possible, I will also upload a video so those who have the ability to raise their car up can see that method also. Until then, that was a very good video having to do it from the top.
its possible you can grab it from the bottom but you will have obstacles down there as well. you may or may not be able to squeeze it past the steering rack or the radiator. pick your poison I guess. let me know how it went....

It's much quicker and easier to leave the power steering pump in place and just undo the 3 bolts on the alternator bracket.
That may be true. An extra two minutes saved. There's so many different ways and opinions but the end game remains the same. That may have helped me if I seen a video of it, but there wasn't any. Thanks for the input. I'm sure your way works just as well or better. I'll try that if I need to do it again.
I have a 2004 gto and im having issues lining my new alternator up to all 3 holes so I can bolt it back up pls someone help
Two things... 1) Put the bolts in loosely. Do not tighten up until all 3 have started. 2) You may have the wrong alternator. Line up the two and check for difference. It should line up perfectly. If the bracket line up it shouldn't be a problem. Keep trying. Hope it works out.

You will want to go with ac delco. You can find cheaper altanators but they may not be reliable. I know about $ being right but your time is money. Meaning buying cheap knockoffs make you do the job more than once. Use this part # if you want to shop around for a better deal. Good luck!

@ChrisGivins You probably could get it from the bottom, but you would still have to remove the same brackets. The CAI could have stayed in tact. Plus i'm not sure if you would be able to navigate it free from the bottom without removing other brackets. Just pick your poison. Thanks for the compliment.

Ohh one last thing.. Alternator message came up on dash and when it does that, battery light comes on?.... I just removed and had alternator tested.. Its pushing 14 v.... So u think its the battery taking a Crap!
Yes it is possible that the battery is dying on you. Your alternator is good. The battery takes a very heavy hit trying to maintain everything when the alternator craps out. I eventually had to buy a new battery shortly after the install. I had no problems from there on... This is a money game we're playing....lol

What up. An air ratchet is not necessary but makes it easier. Every bolt can be broken by hand. I've been downloading free music from sound cloud. Trying to stay away from copyrighted materials as best I can. But you can also download free music from UA-cam too.
Lol I meant Alternator upgrade size. I'm think about doing the under drive pulley to along with the Alternator.
Lol okay.... I'm going with the Chevy Caprice 170 amp alt. Its a direct fit to the G8's. It should be enough to power up an amp and keep all your accessories running properly.

My light just came on today saying alternator error. Around how much would a shop charge me?
Micah Andrus I was told between $800 to $1000 bucks labor. But don't hold me to that number. It could depend on where you take it. 180ish to 230ish for the part.

How did you remove that was left with the alternator?
Are your referring to the bracket? If so, I had to pull the whole bracket out with the alternator, Then attach the bracket onto the new alternator, then install it in as one piece.
Got it thanks bro! Its cause i saw yours came out easily from the alternator and mine was stuck from all the oil. Finallygot it out! Your video is the reason why im saving a shit load of money and taking it to someone to fix it for me thank you!
