    David Moyes talks about his time in charge of Everton.
    Moyes was appointed in 2002 and was with the Toffees for 11 years. Having steered the club away from relegation in his first season, he would later lead them to the Champions League only for them to lose in their qualifying match against Villarreal.

    This guy bought Seamus Coleman for £60k. Let that sink in. He got Cahill from the championship who became a legend. Last but not least, he made Fellaini look world class! Moyes was quality, end of. All other arguments are invalid.

      @Jordothecat98 5 років тому +3

      I'm an evertonian who appreciates the good job david did, and your points about cahill fellaini and especially coleman are true.(coleman arguably best premier league signing ever for 60k imo)
      But all other arguments are invalid? Come on. He is still the guy who signed van der meyde, ferrari, kroldrup, stracqualursi, etc. he never won a trophy in 11 years despite the team he built, then took a team of champions to 7th at united, then absolutely embarrassed sunderland getting them relegated.

  • @Walkerman404

    So many Everton fans don't appreciate what Moyes did. They were an average lower mid table/relegation fighting side when he took over, in 11 full seasons he only finished outside the top 8 on 2 occasions, and without spending the money the teams around them did. Finished 4th after 17th the year before, and made an FA Cup final. Yes it's not worked out for him as a manager since, but Everton are certainly no better off since he left, and some of the jobs he's taken since haven't exactly been easy. United nobody could replace Sir Alex and he left the weakest United team of all his years in charge, did ok at Sociedad to begin with, just couldn't sustain it in the end, Sunderland that was an impossible job, and did ok at West Ham all things considered.

    Good manager, but conducted himself at poorly at United and made a big mistake getting rid of all the coaching staff. But also got very unlucky with an incompetent bunch of bastards in the boardroom. Woodward not managing to get a single one of the players he targeted, and the rest being too braindead to realise that it would take time to rebuild post Fergie regardless.

    • @MrGts92

      TBF, he didn't get rid of all them. Few them threw their toys out because they were 'Fergies boys' same with the players. We needed a total overhaul of squad as well. Having said that, his lack of delegation sounds pretty much crux of his downfall.

Also, Moyes was not a panderer to egos, which would be a disincentive to a few of those players. Moyes WOULD have been better suited as a replacement for Arsene Wegner, if you think about it

    As an Arsenal supporter, I was a huge fan of Moyes when he was at Everton and was even keen on him as a potential long term replacement for Wenger. He built a very tight knit squad at Everton who always seemed very switched on and tidy. Lots of quality players came in under Moyes and usually for bargain prices as well. Arteta was a great signing from Everton and is the only player whose ever really filled the Gilberto void in center mid.

    He's clearly hurt by his time at United given the way he goes off on one about owners. Fair play, he gave the club stability and gave us a sense of pride back, but the way he empahsises finishing above Liverpool twice just sounds like the small club mentality that lot accuse of us and gives them more ammunition. He has a major part in the difference between us now and when he took over from Walter Smith, but we can't hardly call his time ' successful ' , we won nothing !

      I think he knows that finishing above Liverpool meant an awful lot to the supporters and there's a nice little bonus in delivering that. He knows that, unlike Liverpool, you don;t become a fan of Everton by buying a jersey off the rack in a mall in Cork or Melbourne or Mumbai and declaring yourself a lifelong Red. He knows we know our history.

      Moyes was a gd manager b4 he went 2 Utd. I'll admit that the job was 2 big 4 him. Fergie was giving him advice all the time. Players wudnt play 4 him coz he was not high profile enough 4 them. But u can't deny his career fell 2 pieces coz of the Utd mess.

    • @stevoc9930
      @stevoc9930 5 років тому +1

      gerard monaghan I agree his career went down the shitter after his failure at United. But let’s be fair it was a failure primarily of his own doing. Players will play for any manager if he motivates them correctly. But Moyes never connected with them. United under Fergie was like a family. Moyes should have came in and changed as little as possible. It was an almost unique situation where a manager was not replacing someone who was sacked. The squad were happy, they were serial champions.
      But Moyes chose to come in throw his weight around and make many, many changes some ill advised. Many completely unnecessary. These decisions alienated many of the players. And when he started publicly criticising and throwing his own players and even Fergie under the bus well he lost the rest of the squad and it was over for him.
      He has said if he had the chance to go back in time and start the United job over he wouldn’t do anything differently. Which is not only batshit crazy but Moyes mindset in a nutshell, he’s never wrong and it’s never his fault.
