@@Avian07when they rebuilt Macross City after the first transformation which messed it up pretty good, they rebuilt the city on three tiers instead of spreading it out so that there would be less damage. Also they made sure that there would be safe areas and shelters where the citizens of Macross City could take shelter during modular transformations.
Just once I'd like to see one of these space mechs be subjected to anything resembling real-world physics. All those massive limbs slamming into place would have it spinning like a top. (I know it's supposed to be like this and it gets explained with "future tech". I just think it'd be hilarious.)

@@xenomorphphantom8852yes that is true because when they made that first (and in the end only) use of the fold system, when the FTL engines disappeared they took with them a great big piece of conduit that connected The reflex furnaces which are the main reactors of the SDF-1 with the main gun energy transformers. And conduit was one of the few things that the synthesizer systems aboard SDF-1 were not programmed to create but because the ship could transform they would be able to bring those two systems back into contact with each other without having to create new conduit. Because the sdf-1 component system was modular just like that of the Veritech fighters.

Indeed, in the animated series Macross or Robotech, the space transports were destroyed in the first incursion of the sentradi invaders and in the space folding the thimble and the prometheus were dragged and later joined the SDF1, but this version that I made is the one of the movie (macross do you remember love) where the prometheus was destroyed in the sea (I'm not sure if it suffered the same fate from the thedalus) in this version the space transports 1 and 2 and were attached to the SDF1 when it made the jump.
At least in the television version he is destroyed at the end, in the film version he is partially destroyed but survives the destruction of Dolza's army, in macross Plus appears in the lake with the space carriers and not the prometheus or Dedalus attached, in macross frontier an SDF appears with the name of Global, so I suppose that some copies were made following the scheme of the film version.

If this takes place in actual world, it can only be done if it has gravity and anti-gravity drive technology. It would be waste of resources with non-stop maintenance required with that many moving actuators, hydraulics and gears just to turn this behemoth into walking mech. Besides, turning him into mech doesn't really give it advantage with more exposed weakness and being an even bigger target for gentradi ships. Also in reality, using the carrier hand to punch through gentradi ship would kill UN Spacy crew with serious concussion shock apart from seriously damaging the carrier and Valkyries in it.

The size and power of the machinery needed to make such possible... the power source... the g forces inside... ridiculous only in manga. This ship would be kilometres long just to house the aforementioned workings AND decks hangets living spaces. Ammunituon stores. Just too stupid to actually exist.

Keep in mind, the original ship the SDF-1 was constructed from was not designed with human occupants in mind, just several 50 ft tall Zentradi.
It does do punching.The Daedalus Attack manouver is actually surprisingly popular move in capital ship combat in Macross.
