Man, you really know how to do a review. In my opinion you simply did it perfectly. You said all that I needed to know and was curious about this very binoculars. Thank you very much! PS: you should do more reviews.
We’re going to Big Bend in a couple of weeks ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSt0aBrzyS1nxONvwm1e0u7ZDFD_eypAO so I bought these to use during the hikes, didn’t want to miss anything. As you can see by the photos I tested the phone adapter by taking a phone of a power pole on the next block and you can see the results. It took a couple of minutes to line the phone camera up to the eye piece, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but once it was longed up it stayed in place without any issues. So far I’m impressed with the feel and the weight, the neck strap is wide and soft so it feels good on my neck. I look forward to using it with my friend and grandson in Big Bend!
This has got-to-be one of the finest reviews of hardware, I've viewed on UA-cam, in a very long time. Thanks. And I just ordered the Celestron 15x70, tonight. Just to gaze at the Moon, and Earthly wildlife.
Hi Visual Astronomy, how does 25*100 Celestron compare to 20*80, is the viewing exp much better, is it worth double the price ? Btw nice video. Cheers!
My Celestron Skymaster 15x70s were out of collimation but I fixed them by cutting away the rubber grip over one of the screws on the right side right above the eyepiece and realigned them with a small screwdriver. I use mine handheld. Fill in the support bracket with JB weld or epoxy to stabilize it. Hot glue might work as well. The optical quality on mine is acceptable.
I just bought this and watch your review before using it. Im sure glad i did because i would have been mad at all the shaking and moving and good idea to fold eye part down, my lashes was in the way. Glad i watched to see how to work it properly on winter solstice 👁
Great review.i have celestron cometron 12x70 for 60euro and I use them far more than my mak 127.stereo vision is so much more comfortable.viewing Venus today and buzzards.get yourself some epoxy putty and fill in the bracket till it's level.the difference is amazing.clear skies .vic
I agree with, well done. It's clear you are a passionate and knowledgeable astronomer. "The amount of joy this instrument gives for it's price point is stunning". What a great summation!
I use my skymaster 25 x 70 for astronomy, but my favorite pair of binoculars is my skymaster 15 x 70. They are Great !!!!!!!!! Very easy to focus. I will never sell my 15 x 70 they are the best binoculars I have ever owned. Thanks for the video. I will try what you said in the video.
Thanks for that, very useful and detailed review. I've been using my birdwatching 7x42 so I have ordered these, hope I get a good pair. I am finding my way around the sky (slowly) before I even think of buying a scope. I'm lucky to live under dark skies so I think these will be great for hopping around the stars. Luckily I have a quality camera tripod, and a monopod for when I go out walking with my dogs. I'm a busy man so binoculars allow me to combine hobbies- I always take my 7x42 out fishing at night if it looks clear, though these will be too big for that. You are right that binoculars are a different experience to scopes, and there is a lot to be said for the hassle-free experience.
I picked up an old pair of Hilkinson 11x70 "Jupiter" binoculars from an online charity shop in the UK and had a similar experience to you. They are most impressive.
Yanerie Castro absolutely loving them. Great for star gazing and terrestrial viewing. They are my go-tos for birdwatching. Such great binos for the price everything looks HD through them lol
Clear and simple, very authentic review! With a Bresser 200mm Mesier telescope, we decided to have an additional 'star- or skyfinder' optic, just to already scan the sky. It's appear to be the normal add-on to a high magnifying telescope
Great Video My Friend, Greetings from the USA. I ordered a pair of 25x70 Celestron SkyMasters yesterday from Amazon and I’m pacing around the house today like a kid on Christmas. I had been using an older pair of Bushnell 16x50 and after doing some research, came across the Celestron SkyMaster and they were only $69 bucks USD so I figured what the hell. In addition I spent another $9.49 for the Barska Metal Tripod Mount as I had read that the one that comes with the Celestron didn’t fit the bill and displayed more torquing than I’m comfortable with, like you demonstrated in your video. Look forward to checking out some of your other videos and you’ve just earned another Sub. Hope you’re having a great day.
I've Always Liked The 15x70's! Use with r w/o Tripod, unless wanta spend Time, Do some serious Stargazing! Very Portable! Gave that Awe Factor!! Of course this for me was addicting, Bino's Just Gave That 3-D, Living View! Wished I'd kept em. Eventually moved up to 20x100, I saw whirlpool Galaxy Clearly, Blew my Mind, off Handle Big Dipper! Takes little time set up, unlike the Grab Go 15x70's! BTW, Well Done! On The Video!
This is a really good review. You are well articulate, on point and entertaining to listen to. Good job! Oh, and I’m definitely getting those binoculars.
I bought these years ago. I also bought Orion Mini Giants for much more. Kept these, sold the Orion which were only slightly better. You can collimate these without cutting, just pull back the rubber.
It is easy to fill the sides of the tripod bracket with resin, to make it rigid and stop the wobble. Or make a metal solid bracket if you have the tools and know-how.
@@Splitbrains There is a two-part epoxy that is thick like putty called "JB Weld." No spills, no drips when using. Use medium grit sandpaper to roughen the plastic surface before applying putty.
A very good review, well done. I have two pairs of binoculars, 10 x 50 from Hoya, and 16 x 80 by Celestron. The only review I've seen for a 16 x 80 was by an Indian gent, but I couldn't understand a word he said. I got the 10 x 50's for everyday use, and the 16 x 80's for astronomy, and I'm very pleased with both of them.
Thanks for your info. Really good and clear for me. Looks like I will say goodbye to my old binocular. I have telescope as well but for me binocular much more easy to use for just seeing moon and planets. Greetings from Indonesia.
Thank you so very much. Excellent review. I have recently ordered the Celestron 20X80mm. Should be arriving from Amazon very soon. I think it's tripod mount is already built in and looks much stronger than any of the add on ones.
Hello. I have the same pair of Skymaster binoculars. I noticed you showed the wobble in the tripod mounting bracket that I experienced. Here's a fix. (Unless you want to purchase or make a stronger bracket system), just fill the factory bracket with an epoxy. Careful since some epoxies do not adhere very well to the plastic they use. If that is the case, you might want to cover the total bracket all the way around so the epoxy sticks to itself. Although I did not do this next tip, you can add some small metal pieces into the epoxy for added long term strength. That is kind of like re-rod in cement
I do agree with your opinion about telescopes in general - they do give you microscope feeling of sky with one eye involved only Watching night sky with binoculars - way more freedom!!
Because of your review I bought these, but made sure to check the colimation in the store. Luckily I think I got a really excellent pair, which don't seem even to have the "coma" effect! The field of view is all quality! I completely agree with everything you've said about these binoculars. They're excellent for me, starting out in astronomy, to be able to begin to learn the sky and the hobby. I can see the moons of jupiter, the phases of venus, and the Andromeda galaxy! And they were only $70 CAD at Canadian Tire! To think I looked at used $80 20x50 binos on Kijiji... Very happy with these instead. Love from Edmonton!
Great video. I just bought a pair of skymaster pro 15x70. Left eye is nice and crisp after adjusting the focus with the right eye cover on. When I replace the left eye cover and adjust the right eye I see milky semicircular regardless of how much I adjust the diaplole. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot.
Excellent review. I just took delivery of a pair in order to take on vacation in Scotland, much more practical than a telescope. I can use them day and night. I'm really looking forward to the trip now. It was very useful to know what deep space objects can be seen and what craters on the moon should be visible. That's always a good benchmark and gives me something to aim at. The Velbron tripod head is what is probably causing the shake. Too much plastic in them. I ditched mine for video camera work and bought a proper metal video head which is much more stable.
I have a pair of these. I find them great when I suddenly see the night sky is clear, and I don't feel like lugging 8" SCT and all its associated kit outside and setting up, especially if it's likely to be a brief clear spell..
You speak English better than most Americans. I have the same pair but mine are not set up yet. Mine did not come collimated. And you're right, when I used the tripod adapter the first time it broke but I will buy a better one.
I have just bought a pair of 25x70 Celestrons. You can wear a piece of thick paper on the shaft, and while fixing the screw, the binocular will squeeze the paper very tight and shaking will be removed.
Such a great review! Would you recommend a 10x50 bk7 or a 10x42 bak4? Do you think I should prioritize a 50mm aperture or a bak4 prism? (The bk7 is a Celestron upclose g2 10x50 and the bak4 is a SVBONY SV47)

The vibration issue from the mount is hideous...But if you replace it with any metal binocular mounts it would be much less of a concern. (Even Celestron's own metal binocular mount would do a good job) Also, get one which you can easily tighten the mounting screw to the binocular by pliers
Thanks for this great review ! Just bought these, hoping to get used to them quickly. Have a Celestron mobile phone adaptor do you think it will be ok with the extra weight on a tripod ?
From what I’ve read online you can fix the wobble with the supplied adapter by filling in the middle parts with some quick weld (cement) basically. So many mixed reviews on them and people complaining of the size but as you hold them it doesn’t seem too bad. I have a tripod already and plan to get a small stool so I think I’ll go ahead and get these for about $100 CAD
Great video. I just got my first pair(s) or binoculars for astronomy and had a few things to learn. Sometimes the basics and first steps are what people are looking for and help the most. I learned zoom binoculars are probably junk and the cheapest binoculars are CHEAP. You don't get great optics and the best lenses spending the least. A pair of Thrift store $5 binos cleaned and collimated can be better than a cheap pair of chinese binos with a tiny field of view and crumby lenses and prisms. I also got a great deal on them and I know I could make money if I sold them. They weigh 15 pounds and have a huge field of view and at 28X you need a solid mount for them but the view is unreal. I like watching satellites.
Thanks for the nice informative video, I'm not sure whether to buy a 60mm/700 refractor or a 10X60 binoculars. Please can you shed some light? Thanks in advance
I bought the same item but they are now called Cometron 15 x 70 instead of Skymaster 15 x 70 - I think that is to emphasize their use for astronomy. They were about $70 CDN.
This was a great review. Lots of good information on what your expectations were, how they were met, and your explanation of it all was very understandable. Great review. I thought your points regarding the difference between binocular viewing and monocular viewing (typically, telescopes) were very astute. I have a pair of Celestron SkyMaster 20x80’s that I often use in the backyard in Kuna, Idaho USA (Bortle Class 5). Overall, I like them and enjoy the wide-field viewing over my 8” Meade LC200 telescope for at least half the time I spend looking up. However, I can’t help but feel their optical viewing could be better. The first pair I received had awful collimation, so they were returned. The second pair - the pair I’m currently using - are much better, but there’s always chromatic aberration and coma at the side when viewing stars. Maybe I’m just a snob but that bugs me. 😕 Currently looking to upgrade, and I’ve have my sites on the 25x100’s from Barska. Anyone have thoughts on those or other recommendations before I hit the “buy” button?

However, I can’t help but feel their optical viewing could be better. The first pair I received had awful collimation, so they were returned. The second pair - the pair I’m currently using - are much better, but there’s always chromatic aberration and coma at the side when viewing stars. Maybe I’m just a snob but that bugs me. 😕 Currently looking to upgrade, and I’ve have my sites on the 25x100’s from Barska. Anyone have thoughts on those or other recommendations before I hit the “buy” button?
Well done mate!
