G'day Randy, you are a legend. I had owned three of these back in the day. What you did is not easy. I am sure that at several points you were thinking, come on Australia, what have I ever done to you to deserve this. I really enjoyed this video, thank you.

@@AutoAuctionRebuilds G'day Randy, thank you for the nice reply. There is definitely a reason those spark plugs were time travelers from the twentieth century. The job you did was what all Mitsubishi Verada owners feared. These were pretty advanced cars for the '90s. Some years later I had the car that evolved from the Verada as a company car. It was the Mitsubishi 380 and was also quite exceptional. Do not worry about the shitheads on the internet, enjoy what you are doing and stuff'em.

Please grab the drivers seat and the washer fluid reservoir. Btw, I absolutely love this series. The Diamante was a really cool car back then and it’s awesome to see you giving it some love
Also, maybe you can get the dimmer switch for the instrument cluster from the parts car to solve the problem

This is the type of content that brought me to this channel. Saving these old, neglected, forgotten hoopties is more interesting to me than the copart walk arounds. Don't get me wrong, I love the walk-arounds, but nobody else revives these 80s and 90s cars anymore. I say do a proper engine teardown video of the SN95 failure, should make for great carnage content.

Great content on the Diamante! I'm on the get the seat team! It would make a huge difference! Love these old 90s boats! Regarding the radio...maybe there is an external amplifier or maybe the previous owner wrecked the original wiring? I see that it's got and Infinity system in there...it should sound sweet! I'm sure that regarding the dash lights the culprit is possibly the missing button! Regards from Portugal!

To fix the dash lights. Time for some junkyard recon. Go back to the yard, grab the switch. Also while you are in there follow the harness from the switch and see where it connects to the main harness. It will at least give you a good idea of what the end of the plug looks like as well as how long the pigtail extends off the main dash harness.

Randy your always coming across these older cars I have such a soft spot for from our “youth”, so certainly enjoy seeing you put some work into this one. My sister has an 08 Galant Ralliart 3.8 278k on all original plugs, timing belt, hoses, etc. Dang tough cars. I’ll do some digging and see if I can find a wiring schematic for the dimmer switch. I’m certainly not a UA-camr but I’d be glad to take her off your hands and see if she’d make it back to central NC, the Mountains on I-40 would certainly be a big test🤣🤷🏻‍♂️. Can’t wait to see how bad the SN95 is💯

Sorry, not an Australian car. Think the LHD cars were made in Japan. Our equivelant was called a Verada. Diamante was a name used in the US and Japan. Well maintained, these 3.5's are mechanically strong cars and will go forever. The lower spec model we call a Magna, and I still own a 3.0 6G72 engined Magna wagon we bought new in 1997. Still starts first time and is reliable. We change the timing belt every 100,000Km's. I always replace the timing belt/water pump on any car I have no service history on. Ever thought of trying to get a brake master cap from Australia? God knows, I buy enough bits for aussie cars from the US.

I love your videos! I don't have a car, can't afford one! Or need one at this point in my life! I sure love watching you fix them up! I did the same thing 4 times a year here in Oregon, through the '80s and '90s! Buy for less than $1000, fix them tune them up, and sell for $2000 profit! People who would not think of buying an $800 car, will spend $2800, and really feel good about it too! But in Oregon we can only sell 4 cars a year without a license, Do you have to have a license to buy at the auctions? I'm saving up! Maybe turn a few! Thanks again!😆

Next time you decide to do a Diamante just look on any Australian web site for parts and you will find just about anything for the car. As these were built in Australia and exported to the states they were like the GM Chevy SS, never advertised or promoted in the media. They would have really given many American made cars a run for there money and that's what scared motor makers there. There are still thousands of these on Australian roads and a huge car clubs following The Magna and Verada as they were called here as Mitsubishi closed it's factory in Australia in 2008. Me I loved the Magna and Verada cars. They are just so nice to drive

I'd say if you are doing this, do it right. Get those seats, they are MINT and you know when you go back someone will have damaged them or they will be gone. That always happens!! Hey if you don't want the hassle and expense just carefully remove the leather covers and foam and transplant them.
Do the timing belt. Sort it out properly. You might not make money on the car but you'll have a video series that people will watch to the end and that in itself is an earner.
I get how you're feeling about the car. It's weird, it's rareish, it's fun - enjoy!

  • @Leon-uj7pc

Randy, did you check the light bulbs in the cluster to see if they were good? It could just be bad bulbs. My Volvo 240 had all the cluster lights out. I checked everything else but the bulbs because i was convinced that all the bulbs could not have burned out. I replaced the switch and the dimmer and still no joy. I finally looked at the bulbs and sure enough all were blown.
The reason i think your bulbs are burned out is that the radio display and buttons light up when the headlights are on. If the dimmer was turned down, those lights would also be off

poor diamante.. i love this car. mine i have it more than 10 years. and now she in very bad condition 😢💔.
i think you need to take the dimmer switch from that diamante in the scrap yard. i believe it's the reason why you don't have dash light. because it's control the whole dash light brightness.
if i have money i will buy it from you and rebuild or restore it. but unfortunately am in very bad financial situation.
this engine is really strong. and it have a really good tone when you fix the exhaust leak.

Does tune up, almost kills engine and catalytic converter with cleaners. Seems with as clean as heads were inside, valve stem seals were probably redone. These engines were known to have valve stem seals go bad and smoke. As cheap as parts are at pick and pull, seat would be good upgrade. If junk car had a good headliner, still pick and pull parts are cheap.

I know I am a little late, Randy however I believe that the reason that your dash lights are not working is it looks like the brightness rheostat for them just to the left of the steering wheel at 12:42 just above the turn signal stalk is missing.
The hole for it is on the gauge cluster surround just below the clear lens that covers the gauges. If it is unplugged and missing, the power wouldn't go to the lights themselves. I bet that the other Diamante probably has the switch in it.
It might not be a bad idea to go ahead and replace the bulbs in the cluster themselves while you have it pulled apart to replace the dash light dimmer rheostat while you're at it.

I've always loved the Diamante. Maybe you can pick up the dash switch when you get the seat from LKQ.

I'd get those seats, will make yours a lot nicer and worth more when you go to resell.
