- The initial version of Come Back To Me, from the Rhythm Nation 1814 record released on September 19, 1989. A video was filmed in Paris in November 1989 and released as a single in June 1990. Will add more later, after research concludes.

YES..I was only 7 years old and till this day still can't believe this song touched me the way it did..the intro and the hook is just mind blowing . It made me so sad but sounded so good
After I broke up with her I remember getting these dramatic letters from my girlfriend , quoting these lyrics

Jimmy and Terry, plus Steve Hodge doing the final mixing is just masterful
Jimmy Jam told the string arrangements was at the suggestion of Janet and she wanted the ending to put a lot this feeling. Like they hear in this demo, not a lot of difference between this and the final product outside the bass was reworked in a more soft sound to fit and also the raining sound during the intro and the outro.

Why does this sound beautiful without the reverb?
It’s supposed to 😊 It all starts with beautiful arranging and playing. Making sure full chords aren’t used when just a note or 2 will do.. Making sure no one overplays their instrument.. Always leaving room for the listener to listen, instead of being assaulted by too much business. After that, Reverb just takes it to the next level.

It's basically complete. Some of the backing vocals are missing and some of the keys are turned way way down. Otherwise I like it. My favorite version is the mix on Design of A Decade.

No...it's the early version where they lay down the basic instrumental track then they go over it and decide what to add in or take out. Sometimes it has music. Other times it could be a simple click track. Just depends on the production technique. This is missing some of the strings. Otherwise it sounds like most of the backing vocals are there.

No, sorry I wish I did. Maybe one day, as I am not that underground yet and looking at this channel, anyone who has them probably won't trust me (I worry). Hoping I will though.

It was released as a single in June 1990… The Video was recorded in the Fall of 1989 months before its release
@Daniel Gourdine Yes, around November 1989. She was stacking video shoots in anticipation of her worldwide touring schedule dominating 1990 plans. Her only music video shot after that tour, was apparently Love Will Do on September 13, 1990. Only one shot during the tour, was Black Cat, during a tour date in the spring of 1990.
I am puzzled when she shot Escapade and Alright though? Escapade was maybe late 1989? Alright debuted around her first tour date around March, but was shot during Winter 1989-1990 for certain in LA.
Nothing from this record was released prior to August 22, 1989. I doubt the album was mastered in early June 1989, as Black Cat had barely been recorded as the last track. All the dates listed are applicable to effective date of completion or the recording date itself. Not official release date, as the channel is from the perspective of the creators/artists and not the public.
@@muzik1943 Janet was on her last album with her A&M contract and John McClain wanted to her do right by her at that point to promote her album as much as possible after having a change of heart on liking the Rhythm Nation concept. At the time, the album became the best selling album of 1990… I guess they wanted to release some lighthearted records to diversify what was being released from the Album 💿… Escapade had a Carnival Spring Break Feel and Alright had a summer time stay out all night hip hop dance feel, so each release was genius
Actually what a lot of people don’t know is… A&M wanted Come Back to Me as the lead or second single so they had her record the video early. Janet fought for the other 3/4 singles to come first.
