Yup....I'm sure most of us who have a cable winch to lift a blade have broken one, at one time or another. I had the pleasure of driving up on top of my snow plow when the cable broke, and the Ford ranger catapulted up and over. I was looking up at a blue sky pondering my thoughts, when I realized it wasn't going to fix it self. Reverse all the way home and did that same repair you did. It still holding today and now my winch only has 4 feet of cable in it and will soon get synthetic tow rope to replace the cable. Great video and now I'm all up to speed on your channel. We'll see you in the next one. Cheers.
Thanks 😊! That's what we had to do, reverse all the way into the garage. Synthetic rope is on hand bow with a nice blue fairlead that I will install this spring. I have to do a synthetic switch over for my other machine too because it's all bound up as well.
If just for plowing switch to a plow strap. Amazon has them. Switched 2 years ago and have not had a problem since and we have snow in Western New York. Usually switch from synthetic rope in fall to strap and back in spring.
What is the weight rated to.on that strap? I switched to a 500lb break strength a couple weeks back and it snapped. Recently just installed 1000lbs and that seems to be going well.
Been trying to find best set up for a plow on atv. Ideas out there.....Synthetic rope, better fairlead, nope use a boat strap, nope use the original wire but set up a pulley system to change the angle and work. Ugghh. Happy and enjoy trying things but seems no real consensus on what will stand the test of time to do the job once and have a few years of success. Where I live only need plow 4-5 times a winter but if it lets me down, will not be happy to still trying to find best set up. Thanks
The cables suck honestly. Cheap but fail often. Synthetic ropes can be easily repaired if they do fail without respooling the whole winch setup. Straps work okay but I find are hard to repair when they do fail. I like the synthetic rope setup the best honestly.
My steel winch cable was so frayed along the whole length that I had to replace it. Went with Synthetic rope. I'd never go back to steel cable again. Make sure you wear safety glasses, or even a full face shield, next time you run the death wheel. Nothing better than being able to see. And put the cotter pin on the hook pin on the back side of the hook. It will not interfere as much when you're hooking up to the plow or whatever else.
That's a good idea. I'm going to install a synthetic rope this spring. I've got another bound up winch cable on the other machine now. Next time the winch drum comes off a synthetic rope is going on!!!
So I enjoyed watching your plow adventures but I’m just wondering, if you want to plow all around your place with as much snow as you get, why not buy a 4x4 truck, jeep or whatever with a real plow. Not cold or silly reasons for breaking down. For as much as you’re into the 2 atvs you’d be way better off
Most certainly. I've being thinking about getting an old beat up truck for pushing snow and hauling stuff around the property. One of those V plows would really do well for us.
Try harbour freight That tool isn’t that expensive at all you’re looking at probably $40 I live in Canada and I got mine at Canadian tire for $45. It cuts in crêpes at the same time.

Thanks for fixing my plow!
You're welcome honey!!!!
This was super helpful, thank you! Like the Steelers hat! :)
Thanks! Go Steelers!!!!
I changed my metal cable to a fibre cable it really changed my snowploughing withe the atv
I bet. I've got mine ordered up and a synthetic rope is going on for the spring.
Nicely done!
Thanks for the feedback!!!!

The saddle should always be on the running end of the wire rope. Never saddle a dead horse is a good way to remeber.
Good tip!
If you have a tangled winch line just switch the winch to free spool, tie the hook to a tree and backup the ATV.
That is a fabulous idea! I'm going to try this!!!!
