    Those pointing guns seem like a good idea, but when I tried one it kept blocking up unless I used a v.wet mix. Which resulted in a runny mortar that smeared onto the bricks and was weak & crumbly when set. Plus I found it more difficult to use & slower than the normal method. Not for me!

    • @markhep
      @markhep  3 роки тому +1

      Yere they take a bit of getting used to. I prefer the traditional way. But they grate for people who don't do a lot of pointing 👉👍

    1 question did you use just the 1 trowel to pack in the mortar ? or did you pick up another to curve the mortar? I didn't catch that thank you

    • @markhep
      @markhep  4 роки тому

      Hi mate yes just used the small trowel. But I know when you buy some of the guns. They come with a scoop to put it on the gun. But if you on about me finishing the mortar. I used a jointing iron. Witch has a curve to give a curved finish. Hope this helped 👍👍👍

    Every one moaning about the dust obviously hasn't had to get the job done to earn the daily bread.
    Bit different for me I'm a roofer so the dust usually doesn't bother the neighbours too much but cutting hips and valleys up it bothers us to buggery so yeah I'd love the dust extraction but hey shut the moaning and get it done.

    • @markhep
      @markhep  3 роки тому

      😂😂Yes mate I see them use the dust thing with the vac on. My god it looks heavy. Thing is if you was using that and it took another week to get done. Then they would just moan about the noise 😂😂😂👍

    Have a go at the quick point gun mush. It’s fucking epic. Connects to a drill and it’s rapid. £250 but you make yourself money on first job 👍🏻

    What do you think of the pointing gun??

    • @markhep
      @markhep  4 роки тому +1

      Hi mate. For years I dident bother with one for pointing. Then I had a flagging job to do and bought it for that and it was really good. For pointing flags.now I use it odd time if I on my own I can point quicker with out it. But if I have a labour with me they can use the gun wile I go over it for the finish. And you can get a good speed going. But it does ake your hand pulling the trigger. Would love some kind of battery one👍👍👍

    Nice job there. How many square meters do you reckon your were doing in a day?

    • @markhep
      @markhep  5 років тому

      It's really hard to say some jobs 2 men one grinding and one pointing could do 20m a day that's what I did when I was 20 years old lol but I would say 12 to 15 m with two men is what i do now I would say £20 to £25 a meter I would be asking these days hope this is helpfull👍

    • @markhep
      @markhep  5 років тому

      I also think the gun is a lot slower but it guarantees a full fill joint

      Where you was buying the gun?

    • @markhep
      @markhep  4 роки тому

      @Jerry Rawlings wow that seems a lot I would say a days pay for two men to repoint it and maybe a day or two to get paint off. I would not pay 2000 mabe 1000 but that's probably too much 👍

    F... Me man your like a wizard I about to do mine but bottom half is sound its red mastic but I got some movement above bottom window think the ties have gone 140 year old terreced glazed front bricks I done the mastic section to just over bottom window I wanted to go 2inch into the seam because I want to use helicol ties so I want it all to match was thinking of this gun then rake out abit then finish with red mastic week after what you think

    • @markhep
      @markhep  5 років тому

      Lol thanks yes mate if you haven't done it before the gun is a good choice for you just make sure you have plenty of plasticiser in it and you need a really wet mix if it sticks in the gun then add more water to the mix hope it goes well👍👍👍👍👍

    Its quicker to just use a trowel and hosepipe - i was doing this 30 years ago and the work i did then is still good - this gun method just causes you more work
