They totally missed your comment, but I recognized you. Kudos for your game design talent, monsieur Lemaître. Can't wait for the KS launch tomorrow on November 5, 2024.
It was my second look guys... I was coming back from my last lunch at Gen Con and ran across the Western Legends Stories table, so stopped by for a quick overview. Looks very interesting! Thanks for a few more minutes with it!
Oh my this got me so excited when I saw it, and your video only enforced that! Unfortunately we haven't played the base all that much, mostly because we play at 2 and I think this is better with more players, but I reaaaallllyyyyy want to get this. Thank you for the preview, hope you enjoyed it, looks like you did 🙂
@@meeple I have about the same amount of info as you guys. I haven't actually played it yet. :) I wish I had spent a little more time rummaging though the cards and reading their effects. I'm super stoked for this one!
The artwork is so great on the back of all the cards, so not sure why they felt the need to put, "Western Legends Stories" across them all. We know what game we are playing haha.
I already passed that along myself. It may just be a prototype thing, but I agree 100% that card decks in games do NOT need the game's name (or even words of any kind).
Western Legends is in my top 3 games of all time. I saw this at GENCON this year and it looks stunning for sure. Really interested to see a playthrough of the prologue at some point to get a good feel of the gameplay mechanics. Also hoping it is different enough from Western Legends where my gaming group will still want to play WL and not just Stories.
This is definitely closer to that Red Dead type of experience than the original was. I could even imagine future content that plays out differently still.
Cardboard Red Dead Redemption with a solo mode too would be my dream game. The card art looks great. I guess we don’t switch to the French cards when we travel north :) I just hope it won’t take three tables and a spare shed to lay out the board and components-I love a big game, but my house doesn’t!
How are the game mechanics? Competitive likte Western Legends? Game/scenario Length? Number of Players? Looking forward for this. Thanks for the overview!
So, we don't have EVERY detail, but it's a competitive game, and BGG suggests that it's 2-5 players. The length of gameplay will vary across the 5 campaign scenarios. There is an additional prologue scenario too, which is shorter. My guess is that sessions will be around 2 hours or more, but that's just a guess.
Hard to say, as that's a personal choice. There is apparently a mode for this that allows you to just jump in and play as a one-off session (I think after you've already played through the campaign at least once). For me personally, I would gravitate toward playing this over the original.
Some of what we see is in French ("Le voyage", "pionniers", "personnalite") but some is in English. Is that deliberate or a "work in progress" type thing?
Hadn’t heard of this prior to this video, neat. Seems to be a game that should have come out three years ago. Everything today seems focused on duel, solo, one shot events, hour to hour and half, trick taker. This is Sleeping Gods in idea, smaller in scope, and Western Legends in name. If you have WL Big Box and all the expansions, that is way more than you need given all the games out there. I do have all the original stuff and will be passing on this particular game.
We don't have ALL the details on the dice, but some are used when fighting NPC characters. I believe some are used when hunting too. It sounds like when things are between players, it's all card play, but for NPCs, hunting, and other interactive game elements, some of the dice are used to represent challenges versus your cards.
Are you a fan of the original? This one seems like it'll ratchet that experience up quite a bit. Mind you, we haven't yet played this more than messing around with the Prologue, but it seems to have more of what I was looking for from the original.
There will be solo rules, as well as special rules for the 2-player game as well. We don't have the details, but the WIP English rule book does mention them as a mode of play.
Our prototype didn't have that implemented, but it's my understanding that it will. There is apparently a method for implementing something along the line of dummy characters.
Original western legends, a youtuber made a solo for it! I play it and its good! Better with some expansion. Just youtube western legends solo mode and the video will pop up and he even has a link with the rrules
I wish Green-Legacy would take off as a term in board games. Cody Miller pushed that name for his upcoming Arydia and it, as well as this game, feel more like Green-Legacy than Campaign. I associate something as a "Campaign" when you level up a character, as you would in a D&D session. Also, so much stuff and yet still no mention of solo play, which is such a pity. :(
Our current rule book (it's being translated) does mention rules for solo play and 2-player games, so it appears to be in their plans for the design. I hear what you're saying about "campaign" versus "green-legacy". For me, I always look at any game that is built around multiple sessions to play as a "campaign". And your characters will indeed grow and get better in this game too, so maybe it fits your definition as well. 😁
The artwork it's nice, but not clear and too pixelated (Atlantis Rising problem). Changing the storyline like in Lands of Galzyr is dope. Let's see the price and the 7 years delivery promises 😂 hopefully won't be like most of the games lately.
Looks good but I wish it did not change to a more ticket to ride art just not the same vibe also no mention of the of the ledgendary story from blood money🙁
Player count could be a problem... The original really needed 3-4 players min to shine. A legacy campaign needs to play well with 2 players or its market audience gets too narrow.
Any minis that were not in the first Western legends please have a buy in so people can buy just the extra figures for the first game. Please. More Indian Indians more women minis
Wow! Thank you for this very enthusiastic first look! I’m thrilled to see that the game is already getting you so excited!

They should use the removable stickers
I think the stickers are just for the rule book, so it's just to intensify that feeling of discovery (rules-wise) the first time you play.
Will you be doing a playthrough??? I cannot tell you the last time I have been this excited for a game!
We’ll probably wait until we have a full game, but spoilers may be tricky to navigate. 😅
Oh my this looks amazing. Red Dead is an all timer for me. If this is close to that, I’m so in.

The full map isn't a table hog. Based on our experience, I would say the table space needed is average to above average for comparable games.
Yes yes and yes !!
A 3-yes comment huh? I take it you're a fan of the original?
The minis here have a different color than the grey ones on the Kickstarter. Can you shed any light on final colors?
We won't know until we get the final product.

Do we offload now the original western legends, or can they both co-exist in a collection?

Any information about language options? Would love to play this also in german.
We don't have any solid details on that front, but I would imagine that it will ultimately be available in the same languages as the original.
This sounds awesome.
If you're a fan of the original, this should be a few steps up from that. Thanks for watching!
Some of what we see is in French ("Le voyage", "pionniers", "personnalite") but some is in English. Is that deliberate or a "work in progress" type thing?
Work in progress. We got one of the only early prototypes, which were largely produced in French.
Hadn’t heard of this prior to this video, neat.

What do those dice do?
did you watch the video ? its mentioned
@@DanielPhelan think I missed that too. Would you care to elaborate?
We don't have ALL the details on the dice, but some are used when fighting NPC characters. I believe some are used when hunting too. See our other reply in this thread. I'll share more when I can get answers from the publisher.
Is it possible to play solo? Or if a single person plays multiple characters. Game looks and sounds amazing!
It can indeed be played solo, although I'm not certain of the details of how that's handled.
Did they give an expected release/fulfillment date?
No idea yet on fulfillment, but it has a 2025 date on BGG. I think the campaign for it is coming in the next couple months (Q3 2024).
Looking like a cross between Western Legends and Bantam West
We never thoroughly played Bantam West, but this is definitely more narrative than the first WL.
It looks like, bantam west is beautiful
Stickers are for the rulebook. Mentioned it the video. Note the actual game ....
Yes, that is what we've been told. This is not a legacy game as much as it's a campaign game, that's resettable and replayable.
I haven’t backed a new game in several years. The original version of WL is on my top 10 list of games to acquire. I may back this one instead.
Can you tell anything about the weight of the game? Is it hard to learn?
It's fairly mid weight, not too difficult
@5:17 moose? try elk…with moose horns? 🧐
Ha! Let's chalk that up to this being a prototype. 😁
Was thinking I did't need it... But I want it 😅

Board game version of Red Dead Redemption I can play with my friends? Colour me intrigued...
We think the comparison to Red Dead Redemption will be made quite a bit. That could be said for the original too, but this one even more so.
Nice components, but where's the gameplay video?

Stickers like a legacy game?
Stickers are currently limited to just introducing new rules in the rule book, to help give players more of that "discovery" feeling.
This a No brainer for me
Did the combat system get less dry and more elaborated than the old WL?
Give me Forteller support....that would be a dream come true
That would be awesome
