I grew up in Oklahoma and we did so much education around the dust bowl - the stories scared me to death. The idea of waking up one year to nothing but miles and miles of death and dust… I mean even without a killer it was such a terrifying time to try and survive.
I grew up in Oklahoma as well, and yes, they most definitely educated us on the dust bowl! Especially being from North Western Oklahoma! The Dust Bowl and The Land Run(all of them) are two of the main things I actually remember learning about in elementary school. Lol
My grandma, who grew up in Wisconsin so not even the epicenter of it, said all the trees dropped their leaves. All the bugs died. There was nothing for animals to eat so they all left or died. No bird songs, no buzzing insects, just deathly quiet. I can't imagine the silence
Oof that was bleak. Psychological drama and then thriller/horror at the end. Slow beginning, but amazing performances by Sarah Paulson and especially by the young Amiah Miller, I expect we’ll see her in a lot of big movies in the future.
Don't look - Bird box, don't speak - A quiet place. And now don't breathe lol. Seriously though, I am so happy to see a horror movie trailer that did not opt for mixing a pop song and make it scary.
@@Thatonehorrormoviefan It was, but it also created a landscape that would feel completely foreign to most of us. So, the setting itself would already have the audience feeling uncomfortable and not sure what was going to happen next from the very beginning of the movie. Also, I appreciate that the "wheat" they showed in the opening scene is not what wheat looks like today. Prior to Norman Borlaug breeding the more productive and disease resistant dwarf wheat we use today, wheat was taller. I'm not sure what grass they used to film the scene. It doesn't appear to be wheat, but I appreciate that they went to the trouble of trying to depict wheat in a historically accurate manner. It's not something many people would catch, but it's a nice little detail for those of us who know a little bit about agriculture.
@@lendondain1 I'm super interested to watch this movie just based on the dust bowl visuals. Looks exactly what I imagine the Dust Bowl would look like on modern cameras based on historic video and talking to older relatives who lived through it. The women always dusting and putting the towls in the cracks are such good details. Someone really did their homework. Looks like it captures how disorienting dust storms were.
Bored?? I think You haven’t opened your eyes/tastes up enough to truly enjoy what’s out today. A suggestion, maybe dont be super picky? Or stick with something a little longer than you usually would if you get bored quickly and tend to turn them off? I dunno 🤷🏻 just trying to help. As I LOVE horror/scary movies!!
My grandfather grew up during the Dust Bowl. He used to tell us about nightmares he’d have that the dust storms were monsters trying to get in the house. So it feels really cool to see someone explore the Dust Bowl-era as a horror genre!
Same here ! I used to have a recurring nightmare that I couldn’t find a ditch to hide in cause I thought it was a tornado and then I jumped in an old well we had and it ended up being a dust storm and all this dust fell inside The well and I couldn’t scream nor see and had to wait til someone came to get water … I would wake up with the covers over my head that were suffocating me but for that to be the dream I would go to when I can’t breath was so scary .
What a great setting- rarely do you ever hear about what it was like during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl- a horror movie set there is awesome!!!
The first time I heard the Sarah Paulson scream was her brief scene as the hologram being killed by Reavers on 'Serenity'. She absolutely nailed it. Such a great scene
I had low expectations based on the reviews, but omg this movie was so good! I was genuinely on the edge of my seat which a lot of horror movies don’t do for me these days. So glad I gave it a chance!
Just watched it now and I have the same thought, that house looks familiar. Also, I'm not in the US and just learned about the Dust Bowl. Sounds depressing
That’s a really awesome concept to use an actual environmental catastrophe that occurred in the Great Plains during that period with the Dust Bowl Storms of the 1930’s and smash it into a thriller. 👍🏾
I was in a terrible dust storm in odessa tx in 2001 we where working repaving a private airport runway then a dark wall came speeding towards us we had no idea how bad it would be when the dust hit us it felt like 1 million needles stabbing you at the same time then we where all blinded by the dust and couldnt breath we where lucky to be by the truck and hopped in but we couldnt go any where because it was so thick its like someone covered the windows with blankets ! We where stuck in plave for 8 hours ! ,dust storms are so deadly
Before I start this thing and invest a whole 2 hours into it, can anybody tell me if it’s any good? Outside of being a big fan of Paulson, is the movie any good??
I just watched the movie and it was GARBAGE. No storyline. Stupid ending and far away from horror. The only good thing was the acting, but thats all. Waste of my time!
Us at the 1:00 mark: Yes, we love everything about this and we're really looking forward to it, when does it come out? Hulu: Whoooaa, not so fast. We still have 90 seconds of plot summary that we really shouldn't have included in the trailer, but it would be wasteful not to go ahead and show it to you.
It's amazing how hollyweird despises portrayals of fathers or fatherhood in movies these days, but motherhood no matter the scenario is always above reproach. Case in point the mother in this movie Hold your breath. She goes from sane to loca in less than 60 seconds figuratively speaking. But she is still portrayed as necessary and without sin despite having killed people and putting her 2 daughters in jeopardy. If she were a he...and a father the plot would have had him painted as inherently evil with no redeeming anything. The screenwriter for this one herself a feminist made sure she gives audiences.a world dominated by females with males playing an invisible, secondary role. And whoa beyond unto any male that gets to close to mother Cray-Cray. This movie fits in well with the horde of feminist leaning movies out these days, so if you're looking for originality minus misandry.... don't Hold your breath. NEXT!!!!!
Smfh, they don't make em like they used to. 90s to early 00s was the last era of normal. Nothing against women, thing is this doggone agendas are out of control.
Very good premise but as usual Hollywood ruined it by reveal too much on the trailer and now I already predicted the whole plot if the mother is the monster.
@@taylorg8799 I think it 'failed' because it's a movie trying to educate its audience about the Dust Bowl during the 1930s-1939 which had a major impact on many people who fled the area and where terrified of situation forever since, but the movie is being advertised as a wrenching horror movie so I can understand the confusion and conflicting message the movie brought on...
Sarah Paulson with her iconic scream, already in
Urban non films are the best
Yessss
100%
I am a simple woman. I see Sarah Paulson, I click on the video
Simple indeed.
Yup. It never fails.
She really is that good, as is anything she's chosen to act in..
Yep, me too 😂

Sarah Paulson is a gem to Hollywood industry. My gosh she is such a wonderful actress ❤

I think she's very picky about the jobs she takes. I know if I watch something with her in it, it's going to be good.
Sarah Paulson is one of the best actresses working today.

The dust bowl? You sounds like a Republican conspiracy theorist. FYI the earth isn’t flat
Try living in the southwest. Its all dirt.
I’m surprised we don’t do more with that time in history it was so bad.

I bet the makers were annoyed that the name "Dont breathe" was already taken and then went with "Hold your breath" instead.

@l-coet1481 The movie is called Hold Your Breath not DON’T BREATHE
