The suits vs the track suits also seems like a metaphor about high fashion or menswear vs street wear in the past and when we meet them in the dojo it’s a reflection of today’s sensibilities where the two can coexist and intermingle. A lot of that current coexistence can be contributed to Virgil who has traversed and influence both genres heavily during his career
You are probably the most important thing that happened to fashion journalism since the introduction of internet media. You know why? because you don´t talk about the clothes, you talk about the experience, the clothes are there to be watched, the feeling is what we are interested in. thank you for existing, a big fan here from Argentina, and I am sorry that I can´t join your community on Patreon but it is extremely expensive after the change. Love you.
“The game of chess is like a sword fight. You must think first, before you move”, the chess scene is also a reference to Wu-Tang Clan’s track Da Mystery of Chessboxin, where this sample is used in the intro. I really like how the katana is placed next to the chessboard.
Couldn't agree more on your point about art. I probably wouldn't want to wear 90% of the clothes from my favorite designers, but I still love them as artists.
Another clue to bolster your thesis here. The "forest" at the beginning is referencing an Aspen grove which is a tree that has the ability to regenerate vegetatively by shoots and suckers arising along its long lateral roots. Which means each tree is basically a clone of the mother tree. They all share a root structure and are basically one large organism. Much how creativity works, and very much in line with your many insightful points. Also, really love you and this channel. Thank you.
Thank you Bliss, we love you too! You are so special and smart....it is such a pleasure to watch to your videos, I feel like I am taking the ultimate course on fashion. LOVED that you showed us the train!
Thank you for changing my mind on Virgil. I seem to look things at face value when it comes to fashion but your analysis is amazing and really insightful. Please! Keep up the good work, I’ll be supporting you on patreon from now on :)
I really havent been paying much attention to virgils work and really forming my own opinion. Im loving the effect of bringing something you love and sharing it others in your own, which is really most artists are actually doing but usually they want to cover it or gatekeep it in some time type of way. It all seems to be acceptionally evolving which is all so beautiful. Really kick ass video as always
Can’t believe I’m now seeing this video regarding this collection. This was an amazing collection for me personally so I’m excited to see your breakdown!
This video describes the whole collection so beautifully! I mean now I seriously wanna buy the checkered blazer and a couple other pieces!! (even though I don't have the money.)
This is actually beautiful, I am a life time supporter of all the videos you make , you are an actual genius , with every video I see your growth and your understanding of the mixtures of culture , music fashion the intertwined relationships is actually immaculate , thank you bliss
That means a ton to me, Byron (sick name btw 🦾). No genius here 🤷 I just take a lot of time to look and then honestly say what I see. The support is greatly appreciated, homie 💫💫
i love this channel, the script + pace of info delivery are so tight. bliss has such a strong interpellation game lol. in this collection, loved the streamlined vibe of the tracksuits, reminded me of motorocross suits. leigh bowery in the rave looks.
Holy crap! You absolutely snapped once again on this video! Such a impressive breakdown, several points were made. This is seriously your best analysis yet!
I feel sorry for the next designer to take over Louis Vuitton men's; as Virgil has kicked his collections into high gear a few seasons ago, and has yet to look back. In my personal opinion it seems as though he has surpassed his predecessor. Also, that sample reminds me of my childhood Saturday mornings spent watching The Powerpuff Girls.💥
we should not judge fashion based on if we would wear it. I agree. But we should also not judge fashion based on the associated meaning. At the end of the day it is a product that is meant to be worn and if it is (subjectively) ugly and outdated like the air force ones from this collection I will not praise it. But guess there are people who really look at fashion through that perspective of meaning and can overlook the fact that it is not really an original product.
The point you made at 10:33 perfectly explains why I get mad when people will complain and label a garment/ collection as "ugly" or "boring" but like they don't get that art should never be judged by just a surface level glance!! Like just because you dont understand or think something is cute doesnt make it any less worth than what it is. And I think the more I learn about fashion, the more I start to appreciate the details and power of reference instead of just looking at a collection for a few seconds on vogue runway and deciding if its cute or not
I think that the LV-OW-Nike shoes really are a shameless cash grab, though they're not entirely without appreciable quality. I think that he basically just stole what a lot of shoe customizers were already doing, and some of those colorways are not only taken directly from other AF1s/customs, but also not really *executed* that well - many look like Aliexpress specials. Though I will certainly say I don't hate Virgil any less, I learned a lot from this show and appreciate it much more in hindsight. I liked this show for the most part, and the last. Shoutout to Ib Kamara.
I know nothing about fashion but the film and some of the looks appear to be heavily influenced by Japanese samurai culture as pointed out (even the reference Lupe Fiasco himself), what made Virgil consider this show to be the preservation of Black Canon and Black art history? just curious
Love your outfit in this! also I am not the most well versed in fashion but as a hip hop head / producer Virgil gives me another way into understanding some of his work.
@@BlissFoster no worries and thanks for being so accepting. i'm a recent subscriber, but i really like your channel so far. thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge.
Honestly fantastic video! I loved the collection personally, so many gorgeous pieces and as a sneaker fan myself, I cannot wait for those af1's... people may think it's a cash grab but the quality looks fantastic and they certainly a spin on the classic air force one. I always get comments from my friends about "how can you like this kind of clothing" or "but you wouldn't wear that, you'd look like an idiot" but your analogy hits home with me... it's not about if I would wear it or not... its about appreciating the piece for what it is... Art
I never fail to leave a video without having learnt something new - thank you Bliss!! 🖤🙌🏾
I always appreciate the support homie. And I think I speak for everyone when i say we miss ya 💫 💫 Can't wait for more videos!

Chanel lookbook for F/W 1994 is a perfect reference for Virgil's take on 90's Rave culture/fashion. (Karl loved music and youth culture!)

reading the show notes definitely made da video clearer. 1.36 is Lupe Fiasco
My boys Rza and Gza
Lmaooo that jab at David Guetta
4:58 I crochet. (I'm intermediate at best.) This could be crochet, but it looks like some kind of machine knit. That's just eyeballing it though.
so much culture in 1 dude
Wow the chessboard part🤯
*Brilliant*
David Guetta effectively ended racism as he played that set
What
@@bkfresh7885 There's a video where David Guetta talks about George Floyd and then continues to play EDM, you can check it out on UA-cam itself
