I hate shorts. I don't like how this 20 second content is aimed at occupying the tiniest unoccupied moments of the day.
Shorts suck in my opinion

@@MinuteEarth lol, nice one!
They have achieved their peak form
@@loki-kt1jy wow, that profile picture is nostalgic, poor popularmmos I wish him and Jen were still together..
It's actually very dependent on the breed of dog too! A 1 year old beagle may actually be equivalent to a 15 year old person, and a 10 year old husky is more suited to being a 60 year old person.
All dogs have a different life progression rate and age differently at various points of their life!
well yeah he said “dogs, especially labs…”
Human growth isnt linear either so it is really confusing when people talk about dog years and cat years.
But people talk about the average I believe
According to the video: “wear and tear on their DNA”
I just hate when people do that, it's a pet peeve of mine
Right a 1 year old dog isn't like a 7year old kid. A young dog isn't able to read.
They learn that far later.
;-;
Well maybe they are just slow learners
Don't judge them, maybe they're just late bloomers
Dogs have the mind of a 2 yo human... But you can teach a octoous How to read... They are 7 human years old
@@gabi_is_gay Yeah, Octopodes are awesome! :-D
So it's more like a logarithmic scale than a linear one?
I think if you read the study, there's a fitted equation that can be summarized as "dogs age exponentially faster than humans"; or log if you do the inverse statement.
@@UnforsakenXII correct, we as humans have just decided for us to be the benchmark but the math doesn't care :)
@Andres Franco Valiente I think you get the relations, but got it inverted (pls correct me if I am wrong). Young dogs age fast(-er than humans), while old dogs age slow(-er than humans)*. Reversing the statement: young people age slow, while old people age fast; or the older the human, the faster it gets older. The second statement makes clear that humans are the ones aging "exponentially" (vs dogs), and the first that dogs age "logarithmic" (vs humans).
Also, I guess the expression "exponentially *faster than*" can be misleading, where "exponentially as fast as" would be preferred. Quoting @Duncan Pañiagua (for maybe more than he meant) "the math does not care". In general, one can say that exponential growth is faster than linear growth after "enough time" has passed, while linear is faster than exponential until such amount of time. Note, eg., that the exponential aging of humans (vs dogs) does not have time to "pick up the pace" to become truly faster than the aging of the dog, even in the absolute age scale: 10y dog = 70y dude; 15y dog = 80y dude; so humans age half as fast as dogs, even at their late days. At yearly ages, humans age much slower than dogs: (0.4 - 0) dogs years / (13 - 0) humans years = 0.03 dogs years/humans years, or 33 times slower. If both lived longer, at some point (simple extrapolation should tell +-when), humans would age faster than dogs.
For me, it is interesting how (I assume) we can all understand the concepts, and even write down the equations correctly if prompted to, but the simplifications we do when writing text end up, so easily and frequently (I do and see it often), being vague, misleading, or even [slightly] incorrect. It is like we are pushing hard on the quick transmission of simplified information over the exact transmission of unambiguous information, which maybe could be translated into pushing each other for the correct understanding even if from the simplified, potentially incomplete, misleading, and/or incorrect info. The good old: "It is your fault if you don't get what I mean." Far at the other "side" of the spectrum, there are people(@circumstances) that find it very hard to simplify things, sometimes writing multiple paragraphs for what could, given the context, be said in one sentence. That is not necessarily better, and often worse, as it can lead to the same consequence--misinformation--by different means: TLDR, in the best case, or wrong conclusions from too complex arguments, in a worse one.
So, I guess @ jlammetje was probably correct in his thinking. Dogs age logarithmically as fast as humans do, but always faster in absolute terms.
* Not exactly true. The second paragraph corrects it.
@@andrechinazzo719 Here's the part from the paper, you can interpret it. "similar results were obtained in a reciprocal analysis assigning each human to its nearest dogs (Figure 3C), as evidenced by the similarity in fitted functions: human_age = 17 ln(dog_age) + 33 (Figure 3B) and human_age = 16 ln(dog_age) + 30 (Figure 3C). Therefore, we combined the reciprocal analyses to generate the single function: human_age = 16 ln(dog_age) + 31 (Figure 3D)."
Now, without looking at any graphs, we can exponentiate both sides, to get expo(human-31/16)=dog_age
If you plot this on a y (dog age) vs x (human axis), you will get an exponential unless the paper itself put down a wrong equation, which I doubt a little.
Your confusion is coming from the fact that when you say yougn dogs age fast or old dogs slower, you're implicitly changing the tick marks on the human axis, so it looks non expo, but if you have regular tick marks, it'll be expo.
@@andrechinazzo719 Oh. The rest of your message didn't load. Semantics aside though, I think we can agree that we now know that 7 dog years isnt 1 human year.
I don't find the exponentially as fast misleading since that's the way it's used in theoretical physics, however maybe us physicists are not very rigorous to begin with and we make a lot of mistakes : )
"I- I can explain, S-she was 18 years old in dog years"
wow she was 90 :o
Buddy did it with a baby
Just showed my dog this, he didn't understand it but I still showed him
Imagine a short from a channel that already produces 1min shorts.
"Yes, officer, she was old enough."
I always love old Golden Retrievers because they look like a nice old person but still have that "I'm just glad to exist here" look.
Discord mods explaining why she was 0.5 years in dog years
This is a good approach , just tell the people what they clicked for instead of talking round and round for 5 minutes
The whole video is less than a minute. How on earth were they "talking round and round for 5 minutes"?
Is 5 minutes really that much of your time?
@@shriihanmukherjee6502 that's what I am saying , that this video isn't like that
@@daydream2083 nah , it just gets boring when you have to see something for 5 minutes what you didn't click for
@@abdulmoid267 Ah, sorry. From the way your comment was written I had thought you meant that _this_ is a video that went round and round for 5 minutes. My mistake!
Thru all stages of life, they are still a baby whom i wish to hug
Great! A lot of misconception about how dogs age in comparison to humans
There are also breeds that live longer than others. Some breeds rarely ever see double digit ages, some breeds it's totally normal for them to live to be 15. My wife's lab she had when I met her lived to be 19.
So you just believe random youtube posts as facts ??? No wonder kids are so stupid .
as a dog watching youtube, i can confirm that this is true

@@zamn__ r
My dog is 5 years old and she acts like I probably will when I reach her human age.
Man…. So in Airbuds we watched a bunch of 30 year olds acting like kids. Rip childhood
Maybe DNA-wise, but maturity-wise, I would say a 1 year old puppy is more like a 20 year old person and they gain 5 years every year
wdym by maturity wise , dogs don't have to deal with financial aspects and maturity level of same age group people differs within humans as well , its obviously a biological comparison
@@abdulmoid267 lol any creature shows behavioral changes as they age, and any animal with social structures becomes more "mature" or adult like, typically with a patience and attention span increase. They also learn about consequences and how to avoid them
@@abdulmoid267 What, your puppy doesn't have a 401k plan?
One year old puppies can respect the word “no”. A lot of twenty year olds have yet to grasp the concept

I found the last line somewhat comforting to hear / know 😌
I am so happy I finally saw something like this... I always thought the 7 year per human year didn't make any sense. At least for my dog, he was a border collie Lab mix, great pup 🐶❤, he never seemed to actually age really until he was super old and was dying. He was like a puppy his entire life. And now I'm just sad Cody isn't here too comfort me. Dogs really are some people's best friends.
Thanks now I can show my friends
My Dog is 16 years old he passed away last year. He was blind and was suffering so we had to put him down, He was a good Dog.
so heres a better one that more kids understand a 1 year old dog is 10 in human years
Me explaining FBI agents, that she actually wasnt 18 in dog years.
Ever heard Bobi the oldest dog in the world?
he's 30 years old!!!
now could you imagine how old he is in human years?
I wish they grew up at the same rate as people, imagine having a puppy for your childhood, a full grown doggo in college, and then die with your best friend
how many other lies have been I told by the council
Alot Alot
My bullmastiff Titus was 11 and before he passed he waited for everyone to see him and touch him before he passed away in our living room from natural causes, I miss him so much
Meanwhile my 1 year old puppy still being hyper and bounding and bouncing everywhere:
The fact my 16 year old dog is still alive blows my mind
I wish dogs lived as long as humans.
Of course this was recommended to me after my 15 year old dog died, thanks UA-cam.
“The older we get the slower we age”
That actually makes a lot of sense, the older they are the slower they age, I had no idea lol
I like how he said its like a 30 years old dude
Man. I'm about to turn 30 and I can't handle having "wear and tear." I still have a lot of partying to do. 😭
don't let that stop you! wear and tear your way across the dancefloor like nobody's business.
I'm 23 I haven't even started partying 😶😶
So that's why young dog is so smart. Like you can start teaching them trick when they are just a few month old and no wonder they grow up so fast because the speed was faster
Whatever age they are, they will still be our best doggos
My honour, she was 30 in dog years
I think my chihuahua is like 15 or 16, been acting like a puppy in his old age too.
I felt bad seeing old dog
"She was 18 in dog years!"
It mainly depends on the size of the dog. Bigger dogs will live shorter generally, and with that they grow older faster
Me thinking my 15 year of Labrador was 105
I had a dog named zoe.She lived to be about 15 years despite all the chocolate she had gotten in to! Even so,dont think that makes it ok to give them chocolate
Meanwhile, my 3-year old bulldog acts like he is 4, or still a small puppy lol
Such a short childhood
I've had Chihuahua that has lived since 2012
According to the kennel club a 1 year old puppy is the equivalent to a 15 year old human
Wow MinuteEarth under a minute! Great short!
I wish dogs could live the same like us
Thats why they miss us so bad…. If 1 year was 30 years for them that means one hour would be 30 hours and an 8 hour work day would be 240 hours or 10 days
@@berry4901 it was a joke lol-
My giant great Dane puppy that's 5 months old and can reach the countertop: am I a joke to you?
Wow our pitbull mix was 17 yo. damn we miss him 🥺😢😭
When you realize your dog is your elder
I dont care how old they are, they are my puppas and babies
Got obaut 20 years for a dog to live
3 month old pup: running, jumping, rolling, generally being cute and active
3 month old baby: lets you know when they shat their pants
this gives a new meaning to "they grow up so fast"
My dog is 1 year old and we think of him as a little toddler because of his personality
When your 20 yo dog starts to get younger
You sure? Our 13 month old Jack Rusell Terrier still acts like a 3 year old all the time
My lab lived to 16, didn't realize he was already 30 one year in
A graph would have been nice to see and look at for, say, 30 seconds.
Now I’m happy I thought my dog was technically around 100 years
Dogs may age faster but they are one earth year old when a kid that was born at the same time turns 1
This video hurt my brain with my 2 brainsells left
BRO FINALLY I FOUND THIS OMG BECAUSE I ALWAYS SAY THIS TO MY FAMILY
“So you see your honor that puppy was of perfectly legal age”
Now I know why my hormonal 4 month old puppy humps his blankets
That was like *HalfMInuteEarth*....
Graph! I need a graph!

@@WanderTheNomad yaaaas, satisfied
So your telling me my dog is 360 yrs old Damm he's a super grandpa in human age
Dogs age like Dragonborn, apparently
The first part of the video is uno reverse, untill when he says 30 year old man
So you see, officer. I didn't kick that puppy
Should have called it "bark mitzvah".
Back to the literal Minute Earth and Minute Physics that was the show's namesake. And it took a #shorts trick from UA-cam to bring us back to form.
I think I learned this video that’s about a few seconds way faster than at school
I swear she was 1 year old in dog year
My dog was 17 and a lab,the legend is gone now but i have two of the most agressive dog breeds now a sheperd and a staffy
As someone who has a 15 year old lab, I would argue it's more like 90 than 80
I have seen about this 1 year old puppy golden retriever and his skull was bigger than my hand, his paws were huge, he was a big ass dog
Our dog is 5 but acts like a 5 years old kid
My corgi died at 12 a couple weeks ago. We spent the whole night at the vet
The age ratio changes depending on the dog breed too.
A doggy bar mitzvah is called a bark mitzvah, or at least that’s what my bar mitzvah teacher told me
My dog is 2 years old and he still acts like a 7 year old kid
She is 18 in dog years
A one year-old puppy equal to a 30 year old man? And then you woke up!
Doesn't age vary by breed too? Like a Pug usually lasts like 9 years but a "healthier" breed can go to 15+
Not to mention a small dog generally lives longer than bigger breeds.
I was always taught that 1 year to us is 7 years to dogs
"BRO WDYM SHE'S 1 IN DOG YEAR"
our dog is 15yr old now, shes still healthy
Friend : how old is your gog
Me :ummmm, 3650 years old
Friend : wtf
"Yes officer, she was 10 years old in dog years which means she's actually 70"
My almost 3 yr old dog still acts like a scaredy kid
My grandparents have a dog that’s like 85
My dog is 16 now, he a boomer
Fun fact: Paw Patrol "puppies" are all between 5 and 7 years old. Draw your conclusions ... Surprised?
That means they’re like 50 DNA-wise!
