Metzen is, among other things, a DM that loves telling stories. And as you grow as a DM, you learn that better than just bringing YOUR story to life, is taking the stories that everyone at the table wants to tell and weaving them together into YOUR WORLD. I don’t see him coming back to only tell his own story, he’s done that already. If Tali’s rumors are true and he’s working this closely with the team, then that’s a reason to get very excited indeed.
And honestly, we all knew it would either be him leading something totally new in the Warcraft universe, or exactly this.
Of course it’s ok to love Chris Metzen.
Also, I worked directly with top brass at multiple international companies - doesn’t mean I keep up with their personal life.

Isn't that a little soon? Metzen didn't come back that long ago and they've been working on the expansion well before he came back.
His return was announced December 15, 2022. I'm not sure if he had already been there for some time at that point, but that's what we know. That's a few weeks after Dragonflight launched.
Typically, expansions enter full production roughly when the previous one launches. I'd say 11.0 had been in pre-production for a while before Chris returned, but he has likely been able to have a large amount of influence.
Well he's been back for 9 months now and the best expansion is still at least 13 months away. So yeah. He joined late into the planning stage but not so late that things couldn't be changed.

If you catalyst them first, you get both normal and heroic tier transmogs when you upgrade.
I prefer taking lfr level to normal for those 2 tier mogs then catalyst mythic plus gear into heroic tier that upgrades to mythic mog. You only need 2 pieces of gear for each slot to cover all 4 tiers.
Veteran 4/8 = LFR Hero 4/5 = Heroic
Veteran 5/8 = Normal Hero 5/5 = Mythic
You can get Catalyst-able Veteran gear from the first weekly Time Rift, Suffusion Camp: Secured Chest & Proto-Drake Boss.
You can get Catalyst-able Hero gear from M+17-20, and from Dawn of the Infinite Mega-Dungeon.
There are other sources (the raid obviously) but these are the easiest ways to get them without needing to set time aside for a raid.
I didn't think about this until now but a Rafaam model was datamined way long ago and the mystery is about stealing artifacts. He could show up here.

I would only be interested if the next classic expansion was “what if the cataclysm never happened?” That would put the game plot on a totally different course and mean some expansions would be very different or might never happen in that timeline (WoD likely never happen, Pandaria and Legion would be very different, etc). I don’t know if it would be good, but it would be interesting.
Yeah I would love to see classic become a proper WoW 2 and go with a slightly different timeline, even though that would be confusing as fuck in the lore though the recent modern xpacs I wouldn't mind being retconned@@Queldonus

Gotta admire the passion Metzen has. I know he loves the franchise and certainly Blizzard as a whole but I'm going to be real, I don't know if having Metzen back even in a large role is going to sway public opinion that only gets worse as time goes on in a sustained manner. I want to be proven wrong, but Blizzard is just not the same beast it used to be. If the CEO/President/Copresident/hall monitor of Blizzard can't assert itself against those higher than it, what luck does Metzen have to get what _needs_ to get done actually done?
No there are bigger problems like M+ destroying multiple parts of game play from being the only way to the best gear level and destroying any spec that shows any amount of doing well in them.

I don't think he has much say in the actual development of the systems of the game that make the game good or bad to play. He leads the story.
I'm not much younger than Metzen & have simply accepted that fans petulantly hate things doing what they're supposed to do (like militaristic fantasy putting characters/races/factions through terrible events) and gamers are the worst about this. Can't help it, gamer neurochemistry is messed up. It can't be fixed, just need to keep the miserable fks subscribing.

@@serendip1tyz The issue is the fact that if you expect to be pushing keys past +20, you have all of maybe 6 specs that are used. That's not good for the game no matter how hard you try to convince yourself that M+ is why the game still even exists. As it stands, M+ is the only endgame content that will allow you to obtain the best gear. Pushing M+ to obtain that gear is locked behind playing a Fire Mage or Unholy DK, a Guardian Druid, a Holy Paladin, a Shadow Priest, or an Augmentation Evoker. If you are not playing one of these 6 specs, chances are you're not going to time a high key and get the loot you want, even if you're running with a group of friends or a guild instead of trying to PUG it. Its fucking atrocious that the game has 13 classes and like 38 specializations, and out of all of those you have six classes and six specs that are capable of pushing high M+ for gear.
I wouldn't be surprised if Metzen was working on Classic+
Classic+ is PURE hopium... they don't have the talent in the building to do something like that anymore.

Every IP has lost users.
(Classic Wrath may be the first time World of Warcraft as a section has had 10+ million players in more than ~9 years {Warlords of Draenor} peaking well above Legion!)
Every IP has infuriated it's fanbase.
(Classic added boosts, mounts, and the token within a year of each expansions launch {so curious why they didn't do it on launch, hmmmmmmmm...})
And NEW IP's are used as case-study for what NOT to do to retain player engagement.
(Literally every IP in the last 6 years, which they have forced nearly all into live-service-industry games, loses more than 50% of it's players within the first month, WITHIN the ->1st month!)
One of their newest games is referred to as Warcraft 3: REFUNDED! Their NEWEST game is referred to as Diablo: IMMORAL and is literally a test for exactly how far a company can milk it's whales and cash in on it's "integrity" with things like dark-patterns, gacha mechanics, and loot boxes with varying price degrees. (9000% BONUS)
And Diablo 4 (based on their own corporate investor call numbers) LOST MORE PLAYERS THAN PURCHASED PRE-ORDERS!! Meaning they very likely LOST MONEY in the 1st quarter of Diablo 4!!!!
I can, if necessary, continue to flesh out every one of these points, but they should speak for themselves quite vibrantly.

@@conanmcclanahan1069 I think you may have misworded your initial message or I misinterpreted, but your initial comment as I understood was that there are not enough talented individuals to work on adding new content to a 20-year-old version of the game. I disagree with that statement. There are plenty of capable and talented individuals working for Blizzard who could pull that off.
From your most recent comment, you're discussing failures from a business standpoint. The outlier here is of course the Warcraft 3 Remaster which failed due to various reasons. Beyond that, technically speaking - all the games were released in a relatively good quality state. I'm not defending shady business practices and anti-consumer practices nor was that even what I was speaking to.
To further my initial point, "they" being Blizzard and specifically WoW have been more responsive to player criticisms & tighter content releases. WoW Classic Hardcore is a thing that they made official as they saw it was a big hit with consumers. Consumers have also been requesting Wow Classic + since Classic was released. When Classic releases new content, players respond well. Cataclysm took a large hit in subscriptions which was already bleeding from the end of WOTLK. There have been surveys about whether they should move forward with that expansion or do something else. I believe, with this information, chances are fair that they have pivoted resources to Classic + in some fashion rather than Cata Classic.
Regardless, there are resources(dedicated team members) here that must be applied somewhere and that is what makes the most sense, at least to me.

heritage quests have always revolved around central zones of individual races. I hope in Herritege Night Elves we will return to Ashenvale and Darkshore. rebuilding and strengthening these zones against future threats. This is what Night elves needs the most right now
It's likely that's what we'll be doing based on the other heritage quests and the datamined quest names. We might also address Sira Moonwarden and the risen night elves.

Metzen back for the 20 year anniversary of Wow (in 2024) and the potential rework of azeroth makes a lot of sense.
Metzen has been the lead content & creative advisor throughout dragonflight. No wonder the expansion had been so good & content healthy so far. Ever since his return back to team, wow has only been becoming better & more fun each update.

You know it's really funny having a video about Metzen with BG3 music in the background, considering how much of Warcraft is straight out of his Faerun-based D&D campaigns.
WoW should implement housing and it should be like this:
1-The location if your house should be a choice of any area in the old world (Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdom including Cata expansion areas.)
2-fully customize and building system similar to Valheim game system.
3-Using wall trophy decorations obtaining from rare monsters in the world.
4-Hunt rare monster system similar to FF12 and FF14.
5-Make it fully optional and purely cosmetic no player powers at all.
Maybe having Metzen so involved would be something that could actually make a timeline-split/alternate continuation of WOTLK Classic with new story actually accepted by the community?
Genuinely hoping they do this, but I would like them to modernize the gameplay a bit too

Only thing I disagree on is wow not being in need of re-invention. While DF has done a lot of things well, the game also feels extremely stagnant. We need an expansion with similar level of innovation that Legion had to refresh & revitalize the game so players come back. Legion was also the last time wow saw a surge of new players get into the game, wow desperately needs to attract new players.
ngl but without m+ invented back in Legion i think wow would be dead by right now. for so so so many players m+ is the only thing that keeps them playing wow. me included. if FF14 would have m+ i would instant leave wow for FF. so yes, wow needs to be updated. we live in 2023 and not in 2006 anymore. other mmo/rpg has so many good stuff wow could learn from

No, we don need any binbingwaho crazy new systems and shenanigans. A good grounded Game is the way to go as we have in DF. DF attracted more new players than most expacs did bc it didnt overload them with so much shite.

We don’t need a hype based rush of players flooding in. That’s shadowlands. Hype, big launch with huge preorders, then player count fell off a cliff. We need regular content, constant improvements as well as big features for each expansion, and an overhaul to the new player experience. That, plus better communication to make sure problems are heard and addressed, will let the game grow slowly but steadily.
We have the foundations for that in what has been done in DF. If they continue to make good decisions, then DF will be seen as the beginning of the new era of WoW. We’ll have to see if that happens.
Chris Metzen was brought in to save WoW before the Microsoft buyout of Activision. WoW was the foundation of Activision and Devs have been fucking it up for years as we all know. This was a smart move by senior leadership for WoW.

Can't shake the feeling that the secret event will culminate in the 10.2 reveal. The fact that it's not a regular event, and that it may reappear in the future eventually for a different subject, they may try to capitalize on the speculation for the next patch with this
Having an in-game content reveal would actually be a really fun way to announce stuff.
I am hoping Metzen is working on a series (Netflix or Amazon) such as an animated series, if not live action, like Rise of the Lich King or the continuation of the original Warcraft movie as a series.
Though, I wouldn't say no to a Starcraft, Diablo or Overwatch animated series as well. I think Steve, Ion and the current team are doing a great job. I feel Metzen will just let the current team continue what they started since expansions take more than a year to build from the ground up. That's why Metzen might be working on something else in the Warcraft universe, not necessarily on Wow.

People had trouble with the Ungoro one? The Silithus and Uldum ones had me tearing my hair out. Finally Gold'd both after too many tries.
I haven't done all of them myself yet but the Barrens one and azshara one was awful...it's hard for me to go that low to the ground, but I suppose I can blame that on my horrible seating and setup.😅

@@mg8565 I had to attempt Desolace reverse so many times that I got gold and didn't even realize and just started another race because I'd stopped checking if I had silver or gold. Un'goro was moderately hard but nowhere near the hardest. But Silithus is the only one I just gave up on after like 3 attempts because it's so slow and not really fun.
My enthusiasm and excitement was dashed as soon as Danuser's name was mentioned in the creative process.

As someone who has no plans to rejoin the WoW scene anytime soon (if ever), I really am glad to hear Metzen might be back in action and helping guide the team towards a brighter future for the game. Here's hoping. I just can't help but be skeptical as long as ol' Bobby is at the Helm.

As a WoW player since 2007 I am in a point where I can't be bother with renown that is only good for transmog items, cant bother with raise another baby dragon - I did that in Pandaria- can't even bother with dragon riding events! I still love the game and I am hype for every expansion ( Yes...even for WoD) but I just can't farm reputation so I can get a tabard or a shoulder piece!! I am excited for the new expansion !!
Yea I've been playing since the end of TBC/start of WOTLK and it is the story/lore elements that keep me interested. The endless grinds just don't do it for me anymore. Shadowlands finally killed it for me and DF has been great but it hasn't been enough to actually get me playing again. I honestly don't know what that would take, I do try and stay updated on the story/characters but that doesn't really require paying a sub and playing. Time will tell
When they brough Metzen back, I had two thoughts. 1 he was there to expand the warcraft IP, maybe a new movie or other project. My other thought was that he might be needed for "rework" for the old zone. I mean he was a big part of the cata rewamp.
But tbh, I don't think it is timely possible for 11.0, I thought the earliest for rewamp, will me 12.0.

Kalimdor racing was a blast! I've been so far just doing the races for the money from the world quests but the event inspired me to go and farm all golds on all the modes last weekend. Looking forward to more of that sweet zoooming content.
I was never really interested in Classic Cata....but if Metzen is involved in a WoW expansion, and its another Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms revamp, now Classic Cata isn't so crazy, because the average player won't quest in cata era anymore in retail. I'm sure they would include some for of chromie time to revisit the cata era, but still.
If I do quests in wow I prefer the cata ones.

I think it makes a lot of sense, really. Imagine you leave because the bureaucracy and stress of being a manager in the game industry gets to you. You get a nice retirement, some good work done on yourself done, then you get to basically come back to your old job with all the creative outlet but none of the responsibilities of upper management. Chris sounds like he has it made.

I honestly thought Chris Metzan was doing basically what you described, I didn't think it was a more symbolic thing I really did think he was truly a creative advisor and worked with Ion and Steve.

WoW is an old game. And we all know its hanging on its dedicated player base of people playing it their whole lives. Its hard to pull in newer players. I still play it, and the reason I am saying this, that no matter if you still play it or not, little few things are as hype worthy as the reveal of a new WoW expansion, even for people who no longer play. Hope Metzen delivers.

I'm baffled anyone, especially Tali, thought that Metzen wasn't returning in full when they announced it. I knew what it meant, and I assumed everyone knew what it meant. Metzen is back in charge of WoW. Even in the announcement, it clearly states that he's ultimately going to be overseeing ALL OF WARCRAFT AS AN IP. That's a pretty big role.

@@TaliesinMyrddin Did you even read Blizzard's post? I implore you to actually go read it. It states he'll be ultimately leading Warcraft as a whole. All they had to do was catch him up on the lore, and their current plans, that's it. Metzen is a lore genius, and can work with anything.

Catalyze before upgrading the Champion gear (not the other way around) if you want to earn both the Normal and Heroic versions. Once you catalyze a Champion piece, it basically becomes a piece of Normal raid gear that can still be upgraded to 437. The only problem is that open world players and solo players won’t seem to be able to earn the Wyrm Crests needed to upgrade past 424.
Im both excited and scared for thia blizzcon/the next expansion, i think it will be a bamger blizzcon, but the expansion needs to drar back people

Taliesin i have a question,
When we look at the titankeepers and even the titans themselves, we can see that there are titans and keeper alike who obviously wield different types of powers yes sure most of these powers are magic related and we can classify magic as a force of order, intrinsically linked with the titans.
However we clearly see titans and titankeeper wilding:
1. life like Eunar ore Freya
2. Elemental powers like Golganneth and Khaz’goroth ore Odin, Thorim and Hodir
3. Death like arguably Argus was supposed to.
4. Even Sargeras who had dominated fellmagic because he was the only being in existence that could strip demons of the fell ore grand it like a blessing.
Everybody als got corrupted by it.
5. Let’s not forget light because there we have some very important beings on our hands.
Fore example Azeroth, most of here power is light based many keepers formed of here “shell; (the very ground we walk)” use the light.
Fore example Tyr and even Ra most of the Titan watcher use the light
The Titan watchers on Zandalar use the light as well as on Ulduar the original Wrykul also use storm related powers on par with the light.
Some of the fleshy Wrykul, humans the Zandalary are using the light as well because of the Loa who came from Azeroth.
And it seems like the light is the worst force against the void.
Also despite the Draenei knowing so much about the light it is still mostly Azerothians who have a natural affinity for using the light.
My question is, are the Titans really there to order the cosmos ore are they just experiencing it step by step and they are actually just as confused and worried about as any other being is?
Why do they have all these different affiliations instead of just being all about Magic and mana and time, because I consider time as a part of order and magic very much.
As we saw with Argus they are clearly born with there powers already established.

Definitely curious to see what 11.0 is about (I certainly hope for some form of a revamp of the old world). But weirdly enough, the current version of the game isn't hyping me all that much. I've dipped out a while ago, and I'm trying to find the will to get back online for the Trading Post because of FOMO. I couldn't care any less about the rest.
