    I'm going to make a 920D comment for all of you. I have a guitar from them, PRail Tele Deluxe. Had some trouble with tone and volume pots, but I don't have time to send it in, so I emailed asking for direction to trouble shoot. Jimmy Darr personally emailed me, walked me through it, problem solved. Well, 3 weeks later, new problems. Same email, but, more solutions. Not only more direction if needed, but he fully offered to fix, replace or exchange the pickguard. He was very prompt with his replys and super helpful. Keep in mind, the wiring is beautiful, the problems I'm having are component issues, not anything to do with the 920D custom shop, their product is amazingly well built. Blows away any wiring found in almost any stock guitar I've seen. These guys stand by their product, and have any option you can think of, or will make it a reality for you. And they were doing these mods long before the big companies got on board the last few years. I highly recommend checking out their website
    Sigler Music or 920D Custom Shop. Rock on guys

    Your comment about having one (1) guitar that will cover "Les Paul" "Tele" "Strat" on a gig is why I use an Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette and leave my HSS Strat at home. Actually I do carry a spare Silhouette to gigs as a backup just in case. When I bought my first Silhouette 18 years ago both of my Les Pauls were sold. No longer needed. My Silhouettes are much lighter with equal quality tone and more versatility than any Gibson or Fender. I am planning to get a third Silhouette with a Tremolo and set up with a 920D PRails Hotrails set up.

    Experience. Those little switches going to BREAK on you. Replace with push button. Hard to replace since they're so tiny. Order an extra switch when replacing. You're going to burn it soldering.

    I just got mine yesterday. I had to rework some of it (the capacitor they had wouldn't fit so I needed to unsolder and relocate it). Also, it was missing the selector switch tip, and the white wire for the 1/4 jack had broken off and needed to be resoldered. Overall, it sounds decent, but maybe a bit muddy. I've noticed that despite having a ton of copper coating the cavity, splitting the humbuckers to single coil creates a TON of noise. A bit beyond the normal 60hz hum. Did you notice that as well?

    I had the Everything Axe set on my Strat. I found the Lil’ 59 to be too bright in humbucking model and useless with one coil cut. So I wired it to a push-pull pot to go from series to parallel. Still too bright. Sooooo.... I sold the Lil’59 and replaced it with the JB Jr. neck and wired it to the same switch. Now the neck pickup sounds like a real humbucker in series and it sounds like a real Strat pickup with very little loss of volume in parallel.
    The disclaimer is that I play on the jazzier side of things.
    Otherwise, the Lil’59 is a great sounding pickup.
    Nice video.

      I was thinking about doing that to mine. My favorite sound is using the bridge and finger board together. The combination of the JB jr with the Lily 59 gives me the best of both.

    I have always thought the bridge pickup should be a little bit hotter just because I only really use it sometimes to add a little more brightness to a solo. I do most of my soloing and neck position or number four right behind that. But regarding the 920 pickup set, I had dropped them all as low as they would go before I put it in and then I made my adjustments to the height once it was hooked up. And it gave me a lot more control and right about the time I did that it's when the silver sky SC came out and they were all balanced and volume from first pick up middle pickup and bridge pickup. I think it's more of a personal preference thing instead of like whether or not it should have been done.

    Three toggles no 5 way is a better way to do this. Example(wire as you like): Bridge and neck toggles - up humbucker, middle off, down single. Middle - up off,
    down on. Or a 3 way with phase swap. Same possibilities but eliminate clutter by trashing the 5 way and moving the toggles lower.
    If I bought this I'd have them build it like that.

    Great video. Did you try parallel/series instead of splitting the humbuckers? I am curious how that sounds. I have the Little 59 in a Tele bridge, which is wired for parallel/series. There is no drop in volume and the pickup still retains a fair amount of Tele'ness....clearly not the same a true Tele bridge pup, but good enough. Thanks

    They still have "the quack" despite guy's online saying stacked/noiseless pick-ups being sterile and lifeless.
    It's more important to have tools that work.

    The 59 and JB aren’t clones of their bigger brothers simply because there are more winds on those vs the Jr’s. That being said, this pickguard set up has a myriad of great tones to offer-just don’t think that you’re going to get a true JB and 59.The juniors are essentially humbucking single coil pickups that reduce the 60 cycle hum while giving the same output of a larger humbucking pick up.This is really a Strat more or less Paul but it gives more total variations than a traditional strap so it’s very versatile in that manner. I have this same item and one of my struts and I run a compressor all the time to help even out the volume drops between coil change modes

    • @Davo2233
      @Davo2233 Рік тому

      The middle pup, the duck bucker is a humbucker actually. You just wouldn’t want to split it because it sounds like a single coil due to the three pole pieces on top and bottom. I have that set in a Chapman with no pick guard so i had to drill out my guitar for the toggles.

    • @MrBostechman
      @MrBostechman Рік тому

      @@Davo2233 It sounds great and yes the Duckbucker does get a little thin when split but as a humbucker it’s just a beautiful sound. Highly recommend this PU config or just get it all pre wired as it is.

    Great video! * A potential fix that could work in theory that Seymour Duncan could have done and tried, for a loaded pickguard and I like them, to avoid a volume drop. Theoretic possibility when I buy a loaded pickguard for my Strat. ** To get the most out of a humbucker, 500k pots make absolute sense for full power. A 250k pot would restrict humbucker output, but it will do the gain enough, to one’s liking. If 250k pots were used, the humbucker should be tamed, but the single coil shouldn’t be restricted, giving less of a volume drop. Humbucker loses a bit of output, restricted. The single coil/split in theory shouldn’t be restricted, thus minimizing the volume drop. I am going to try this and will update. Swapping 500k to 250k if the owner has to do it, is a couple solders and I like Dimarzio pots, which in my opinion are excellent, durable and inexpensive. Some companies will take orders and do it for you. I swapped electronics loaded in my Les Paul Standard, spoke to the company and they made it to the specs I wanted. Great! You likely noted this, but WD makes many and will customize, SD will just sell them and Stratosphereparts sell mint used loaded pickguards and have tons for all guitars. I will update with the company I used, but WD is great I hear. When I update the company I used, they had one price, but offered the electrics or a custom pickguard for more, but pickup price added. It would be cheaper to buy an everything loaded pickguard and I am guessing that 250k pots MAY work in theory. It may act like a capacitor, in restricted output to one level. This could be a good possible solution for pickup volume loss. Theory, but it makes sense. That doesn’t mean it will work. What is the worst? It doesn’t and the 500k pots go back in. I am thinking of this loaded pickguard for my deluxe Strat, but buying a mint Jeff Beck Artist Strat, with hot noiseless pickups to match a single coil sized humbucker to put in the bridge for more 80’s rock in the bridge. Will keep
    250k pots for the single coil humbucker to see if that works. The problem lies in matching the output to the hot noiseless ceramic pickups in the Beck, so their will be no volume loss. I just want great noiseless Strat tones, but add a lil 59,Dimarzio Fast track suggested in videos, but hot noiseless puts out about 10.6K, with 5/6/5 out of 10 for EQ. There is a direct, or so close match in EQ and output listed on Dimarzio’s website. The Dimarzio air Norton s puts out 11.21K, but the general outputs are also similar, with 6.5/7/5 EQ. Pretty Strat eq, with mildly lower treble. It also has rail style pickups, which gives full output with bends. They can’t be raised or lowered like individual pole pieces, but if the EQ is right to start with, individual pole pieces are old school. Why lose very mild power on a whole step bend, or more, moving beyond pole pieces, but not rails. Regular playing is not noticeable. Recorded sound and it can be noticed easily, being more “picky” of subtitles. I am thinking JS1200 Ibanez, but might swap out pickups for full sized Fender Double Taps. Fender calls it a secret to get full humbucking and noiseless with no volume drop. Not a secret? Stacked single coils wrap the top one direction, have a spacer and the bottom opposite direction. Do it opposite side by side to make a combined humbucker and it uses one full when split, but half of the second coil. Not single coil size, but it nails Strat tones, considered Ultra Strat pickups and no volume loss. Amazing, but this was added for Strats with bigger routs. Sorry to go offer topic for a second, but for those with bigger routes. Why are we sticking old school if new technology snd experimentation works. Being a vintage freak/lover is silly. If a car, do you scrap air conditioning to be traditional? Silly! Just my thoughts and opinions that MAY work in theory. Sorry this is long. Great video! Great idea! Just complimenting something great. Stay safe! :)

  • @robcourtnall5332
    @robcourtnall5332 3 роки тому

    I shaw have offered something different, but, this loaded pickguard is great. Ultra HSS loaded pickguards come up and have the humbucker double twin, (something like that) and two hot noiseless pickup like in the Jeff Beck, but Ultra and it nails the Strat tone, like no other. The cool thing is the design of the humbucker. When split, it is exactly the same as the other two hot single coils with no volume loss anywhere. One came up, as they do and I hummed and was indecisive and missed it, because I am obviously stupid and could have taken the HSS Deluxe pickguard off my mid 2000 Deluxe Strat HSS S1 with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. These rock, but the Ultra really nails it. The benefit, of this is I have the LSR roller nut like the Beck and the Bridge, like the Beck. If I were smarter, I would have bought a newer deluxe Strat, mint used, to get the colour and the LSR roller nut, the great bridge, then swap for the ultra HSS loaded pickguard and had an Ultra Jeff Beck Strat, with great pickups, great bridge, with pop in locking trem arm, LSR roller nut and it would be a Strat that can rock the F out and also sound like a Strat, but noiseless. Man, how I regret not doing that. *This pickguard loaded is very cool and I really like it, but will hold off for the loaded Ultra HSS S1 Strat Loaded Pickguard to come up mint used again, like I should have bought in the first place to have the Ultimate Strat, plus the Bridge and LSR roller nut. Flawless. There is no wrong, this pickguard rocks, sounds great and this is only food for thought. Everything is personal preference and I am still considering this pickguard loaded. Great video! Great pickguard! Great tones! Just food for thought, but either way, one cannot go wrong. All the best! Great video! :)

    I bought one of their pickguards. I will never buy another 920D product. Why? One little reason that I can not respect. These guys include a nice jack with their loaded pickguards but they ship it out pre-soldered knowing EVERY customer who unboxes is going to have to cut those wires or heat up the solder and remove them. They had so much solder on mine I got solder bleeding over the edges trying to de-solder and it ended up sealing up the holes in the jack receptors and... well it destroyed the jack. I can't respect a company that would not have the foresight to see this happening. They have to pay money to whoever is doing the soldering work to solder the jack to the wires knowing EVERY customer is going to undo that work. That's inefficiently at a whole new level. If they get those details wrong it makes me wonder if the guys at 920D are just importing these pickguards as-is and not really doing much of anything at all in the US.

    Weird he doesn't know what the middle pickuo is; who does that? It looks like a Duckbucker (from having one in one of my guitars, but don't quote me on that). Nonetheless, who spends that kind of money & isn't sure what they have & then posts a UA-cam clip on it? Strange...

    That would have to be wired so I could get a hum sing tone. Im not really impressed with the duckbucker. Ive heard it was a single and I’ve heard it was a HB. My ears heard it sound like shit!

    Seems a wasted step to cut the wires, when you'll have to remove the cut off ends and re-trim/tin the freshly cut end.
    Just take the wires off with a soldering iron in the first place.
