There was a man named "Val Brag" just West of Toledo Ohio, that built one thirty years ago, a 4-6-4 if recall. That wouldn't run on coal. He was determined to make it run that way but passed away before that happened. I think it's in a museum somewhere. The club he founded was "The Ohio Live Steamers". It had a lot of track and a lot of members.

That's fascinating, at this point, this is a real working locomotive in every sense, it can pull passenger cars and do real work, and with that wheel arrangement it probably has a LOT of torque!

Brilliant! On my railfan trip (from UK) to California in 2008 I saw the full-size 4-12-2 at Pomona. And Big Boy 4014 was in the same yard! One of the great days. Many thanks.
As you know, 4014 has since been moved, rebuilt and is now who knows where. It's running around loose. That machine is a monster, I played around it for years at Pomona, every time the fair was on.

Hi Mason. I presume this loco is based on the UP 9000? Did they build it with the help of UP drawings, as obviously this loco is not exactly the same, having only has two cylinders instead of the three of the UP 9000.

In days gone by, some mines used compressed air mini locomotives to haul the ore out of deep mines. Today, some nations use compressed air engines in cars, making electric cars obsolete.
