I know you couldn't agree but I have Athlon X4 950 overclocked to 4.2 Ghz + RX 480 + 16 Gb RAM 3200 MHz and it works well with a lot of games. Setted games on ultra with 45/50 average fps. Just my opinion ...
It really depends on the game, you see the witcher 3 running almost perfectly with it, but I am sure the CPU is a bottleneck for the 480 as it was fkr the 570... After all since you are on the AM4 socket you have a very good upgrade path
I bought it weeks ago to update a motherboard bios but the last bios update drop these old Athlon cpus compatibility ... So I will reuse it for a server build with a320m mobo, I think it will do the job.
Thank you for the explanation & benchmark you gave! Was going to consider taking this processor and pair it with ASRock A320M-HDV, but after seeing your benchmark it shows very-very poor performance for a budget build. Guess the best option is either getting used Ryzen 1000/2000 series 😄
You have a lot kf options for cheap ryzen 3/5 1st and 2nd gen on aliexpress, a r3 1200 is around 30$ free shipping and it will blow the athlon x4 away in any game
didnt the bulldozer and this bristol cpu lost a lot of later intel cpu instuctions -I guess it would fair better to the 2012-13 era games but still lacking the intel features
Not really, the problem for these athlon x4's wasn't missing instructions, as you can see this can start all the games (it has sse 4.2 and AVX) the problem was the architecture and generally poor single ckre performance, as it was the case for many bulldozer and x4 CPUs... And yeah in older games it would do okay, but afyer all it's based on a modern AM4 socket and DDR4 so you may want to consider it for modern gaming, but as you can see, better don't 😅

I got one recently for like $8 as a bios flashing chip for B-series boards. Haha.

this shit went into flames after trying to stream minecraft at 720p not fucking lieing
for being able to get it for like $5 it's decent for experimentation or a cheep server
