    1) That is not a "pen knife". That is a snap blade utility/box knife. A "Pen Knife" is generally a small 2 7/8 inch to 3 1/4 inch closed double ended slipjoint, with either a clip point, or more commonly spear point primary blade, and a pen blade (look like a small spear point) secondary blade.
    2) That name wasn't "engraved". It was painted on.
    Painting isn't engraving. Engraving involves the removal of material to make the design or letters. Engraving is slightly below the surface, never slightly above.
    If that name had really been engraved, you would have to refinish the cap's finish because you would need to go deeper than the lacquer or whatever is on the surface of the cap to remove the engraving. If the cap is polished plastic, you would have to blend on where the engraving was and re-polish to the original luster. (not recommended nor suggested for celluloid, as that may cause it to start outgassing.

      Thank you Steve for your insights!! I would agree that the name seems more "painted on" or "embossed on" as you suggested than "engraved into the plastic"... Thanks for clarifying!!👍

    Wonderful!!! I really did avoid buying engraved pens, but your video made me rethink about my choices. It is not an easy work, but it is possible!!! Thanks a lot!

      Most welcome Carla!!! Glad it helped you out! If unsure, always practice with a cheap pen first :)

    I don't mind an engraved name, it shows that the pen had a previous owner, kind of like a previous life, to me that is intrestine. I have books that were given as gifts and awards from 'Corporations' etc . . . I don't know these people but, I often wonder where these items have been, where they were kept, the 'documents' that were signed, letters written, etc . . . but that's just 'me'🙃🙂

      Yes, it definitely comes down to personal preference :)
      Thanks for sharing your point of view Renne!

    You made my day 👍
    Until know I knew and used autosol only for: non-ferrous metal, aluminium (the golden tube, in the meantime for Al separately, too) and stainless steel (the silver tube), in Germany to buy at/by the motorcycle accessories.
    And I know the products of autosol about 30 years. 🤗

      Welcome Oliver. Hope it helps!! It's a happy accident for me to be honest, when I rub some of that compound onto plastics !!🤩

    If you ever sell this pen I do hope you disclose the material removal from the cap, I've been swindled several times in the past on rare Parker 51s and Sheaffer's with the tell tale undisclosed flat spot.
    I do not remove engravings from pens, personally I find the flats spots worse than the personalisation plus the name engraving adds to the pens history and charm. My most prized Parker 51 first year model has a name and military rank engraving adding to the pens wartime history as well as it's wartime manufacture (1941) .

      Yes indeed. Engravings tell of the history or story of the pen. I guess it all boils down to personal preference.
      Thanks for sharing Jay!! :)

      I did a job recently at a building that its going to be demolished (moved out or abandoned offices) and found an engraved montblanc meisterstuck rollerball pen that has an engraving on it. Not that into pens and was thinking either selling it (don't know where) or trying to get rid of the engraving

    Does he notice he’s using the dull side of the blade???

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  2 місяці тому

      Thank you for asking :)
      Yes. I used the dull side of the blade so that it won’t “over-scratch” the resin, but it’s sharp enough to remove the name embossing.

    If you still see visible scratches, you will need to go down to a lower video quality. Start again from 144p.

      There should various avenues of selling pens. If unsure, keep the engraving... even an engraved pen can fetch a fair amount of value. Lucky find!

    How much would the service cost if I want to send my pen to perform the removal?

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  Рік тому

      It would really depend on the kind of engraving or embossing that was done on your pen. Check with your local pen community on people offering such services. :)

      Not recommended on metal to be honest.

    You are one brave mofo. You could've removed the clip first, and put some tape over the rings.
