Hi Toocool. Another epic adventure....Your words. Good of you to criss cross the country. Coming back to the famous tree at Perseverance. Legend has it that it was planted by the Dutch. In 1966 when the British were rebuilding the old road they made several attempts to cut it down with men using 🪓 axe, chain saw and even a bull dozer . To no avail and lots of mishap , so they abandon the idea and build the road around it. The old tree fell down many years ago ,the present tree is a sapling of the old one. Please continue to post. Kindly call out the Villages name as you are driving along. I am hoping you will do a Berbice trip soon. Many thanks.
I hear stories about that tree too. It's haunted and when they tried to cut it down it started bleeding. Bad things happened to people who tried to cut it down from what i heard.

The Mayans(one of the oldest civilazation in the world) believed that the roots of the cotton tree will lead them to the underworld, and that reaching up the sky via its branches, which will take them to the 13 levels of the upper world or to heaven. However many belive that the slaves use to settle under those trees in fact it is the only remains left in Guyana during slavery. I love the tranquil black water creek. Very nice adventure. The story behind that silk cotton tree, which was told by my late father,a man by the name of Hackie was the one that was going to bulldoze the tree for the making of the road, then a voice called out his name to stop.But Hackie continued to move forward,then again the voice STOP HACKIE...STOP.I also heard of the tree bleeding, when trying to cut it down.

It's a nice trip / adventure. I like the boat ride. The place is so calm and those folks are very comfortable living there. There are so many places in Guyana that we never really had the opportunity to visit but because of some of you UA-camrs we are at least able to see them. Do they have a school and hospital there or do they have to come our into the mainland for businesses? That's a great lifestyle there and those guys were happy to have you guys over. that is a KUMAKA tree. it is best to leave it alone . when they tried to remove it to make one straight road the bulldozer blade was breaking . let sleeping dogs (trees) lie. also what is epic , what is long water curry, your carahee needs a thorough scrubbing and washing to get back the original colour it looks very unhealthy. the whole world is looking

It was planted way before I9 century. That is a new tree the old one fell down.
