Wonderful video Rene. Blowing is only needed if you are showing for really fine coats to prevent the webbing but is not necessary. I also have never had a blower and prefer to see the coat have a natural fall with adequate guard hair not to matt on the garment. Prime is not about length but is what it is called just before it starts to shed back when harvested naturally (plucked!) so has no webbing or matting and is not usually combed out because if it is loose then it is past prime. Prime means it is on the cusp of releasing the hormone to shed but is still alive,. When harvested naturally prime can be kept straight and laid out that way for selling rather than in a cloud. Prime will always command the best price and can be spun worsted. . A cloud gives a different result when spinning but is just as lovely . Some show folks have bred their angoras to hold coats longer and usually has some German in the background for the density as well as length . But the length is not a definition of prime. For a little venture into the world of genetics, Chestnuts are of course agouti so will have tones of red/ fawn as well as the grey tone, and are the same genetically as the copper and only vary in the amount of fawn/red from the rufus gene. High rufus will have no grey tones so is called copper. Oh yes about the tonal differnces, I agree there is more uniformity if it is carded but if left naturally as you have shown once it is knit up into a garment it will bloom as it is on the rabbit for very nice 2 or even 3 tones to the color . About differences - it all depends on context and perspective. Show people and pet people will have totally different perspectives than fiberfolk . And even those who do all of it will still have a different focus. And weather climate and geography will add to the soup for an even different perspective. I do think that is not just about personal preference so much as what works for your goals and climate. Climate seems to be the biggest determinant of all those different perspectives. For example a blower will be needed much more for the coat or in a humid climate than in a dry one as humidity can web and matt the coat without it being touched. Absolutely love that cabled blanket behind you . Maybe in next video you could tell us about it .

Thank you! I agree, I have never had one, but others will disagree:) That is so interesting! I really had no idea, another deep dive I have to take! I feel like the word "prime fiber" is used incorrectly then in some cases?

    Hi Renee, very informative!
Could you show/explain the differences between French, English, German Angoras please. How does their fiber differ? Perhaps pics of each type would help.
Also pics of the different colored rabbits, or actual 'rabbits in the fleece' 😃
I would love to have a bunny or two...or...😄 one day.
    Thanks
    Lyn

I have never owned or used a blower as well. Actually, I have kept Angora rabbits for over 20 years, and i never knew what a blower was until i saw someone on UA-cam talking about it 🤔🫣😆 . I never understood why they were needed.
And i totally agree with the way you groom because when i groom/ comb out their fiber and even pluck, it does not have a shedding problem in a finished garment.
Clipping their fiber causes shedding, sometimes so much so that its like a snowstorm.
I really enjoy and appreciate all you share 🩵🩷
My experience of 'Groups' is AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I will have nothing to do with groups, especially animal but mostly rabbits.
I have a true story that actually happened here in new Zealand that involved a Rabbit council.
It was nasty brutal and involved intentionally killing another persons rabbits over jealousy. 😢

Thank you! I have had to really pull back from the groups. Too much drama, and I don't want to be a part of that. That's terrible! I can't imagine someone being that evil, but I know people can be.

I wonder if the 5 to 6 inches is for the German angora fibre?
I like how you give your perspective on each topic. I would gladly purchase angora fibre that was clean and easy to sppin with. That is the true test, isn't it?

Thanks for watching! The discussion wasn't breed specific so I'm not sure. And I have had some beautiful 5-6 inch French before, but not every rabbit will do that.

Lovey talk, I always enjoy a good informative video on angoras. Do you know the difference between the white vs Ermine?

Thank you! I know it has to do with having Agouti and Chinchilla in the mix, but I'm not sure how you tell just by looking. I trust the breeder I bought my BEW from, so I know that's what I have. I am hoping to break down each color and learn all the differences.

The agouti color group always messes me up. I can tell if it’ll be agouti, just between, chestnut, chocolate, chinchilla, and tipped sometimes I don’t know what I have 😅

I know! This is one aspect I have struggled so much on. I hope to start working through all the information.
