The passing of Gary Carter is causing me to reminisce about the World Champion 1986 NY Mets, of which he was a key member.

Classic. Sport just doesn't have this kind of fun element anymore. Nothing beats the 80's.

Growing up in NY the Mets were my team, right now their my second favorite team (the DC Nationals being my favorite). But in '86, the Mets coming back and defeating the BoSox in the World Series was like New Years, Xmas, and the Fourth of July rolled into one!
God willing, come October I will either see the Nats red or the Mets blue & orange in the playoffs. Lets go Mets (& Nats)!

I really miss all the swagger, balls and attitude this team had. We need to develop another team like this. Even though Mike Pelfrey is not the best pitcher we have, he shows that grit that this team needs. He is not afraid to be confrontational with opposing players. I thought we had that in Mike Piazza until he showed no balls in the Roger Clemons incident. I'm not saying we need a brawling team but we do need a team with balls, who are not afraid to play tough and take out anyone in their way

I'm a diehard Yankees fan, I'm not one of those bandwagon yankees fans who make fun of the Mets. I know what it feels like since I'm an Islanders fan. They have a bright future with Wheeler and Harvey. I never seen this team play since I was born in 1991, but they seemed like a very fun team to watch. I wish I saw Doc Gooden pitch on the Mets, it's a shame he got into the drugs, he could have been one of the best pitchers of all time.

Thanks...I played and watched baseball at a very young age so I always loved the sport. I don't get why some Mets fans worry so much about what the Yankees do, I know too many Mets fans who are also Red Sox fans because they hate the Yankees so much. Mets fans are better off just watching the Mets, dont worry about the Yankees. It must have been hard for you since you lived in the Bronx though lol. If a bandwagon Yankees fan is talking smack, just ask a trivia question, that will shut them up.

The best thing about this video, for anyone not living at the time, was that they recorded it and produced it in the middle of the season, when the team had not accomplished anything yet. If they had failed it would have been a major embarrassment, but not a single fuck was given, because everyone knew the Mets were going to win the World Series as early as May.

For the record, coke was not the only reason Gooden's career went south. His arm was pitched to hamburger by the Mets' organization, and specifically Mel Stottlemyre, who then went on to ruin several young arms as the pitching coach of the Yankees.

This team had a swagger our talented-but-tormented boys NEED!
And that comes in part from the manager...
    Dump Jerry Manuel!
Wright, Reyes, Pagan, Thole, Ike...good infield!
    Santana, Niese, Dickey, Pelfrey...good rotation!
    Pagan's been anohter great surprise!
Feliciano has carried the load out of the bullpen!
But aside from them--we CAN do this, I still believe this team can at least contend, but it needs another starter, another reliever...and Maneul GONE!
    Let's Go Mets Go!

I don't care what ANYONE says, I enter every season thinking it's going to be the year...even if we're in the umps b June, damnit, they may be bums but THEY'RE OUR BUMS!
Mets fans love their team a HELL of a lot more than cranky Yankee fans!
And unlike Phillie fans, they can actually form a whole sentence without cursing!
Go on, roast me for that, I don't care...I live in California and have never even BEEN to NYC (want to move there) but I've loved them my whole life!
    LET'S GO METS!

They ruled the City, back in the day. The two greatest moments in my life were seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and the ball going through Bill Buckner's legs. They are the mediocre of the mediocre-est right now, but I have patience, 'cause when they will get good again, and that'll be maybe in 5, 10, 20 years, who knows, it'll be ecstasy. NY METS FOREVER!

@DarkosApprentice I agree with how you base Mets/Yankees fans from different boroughs. I grew up the only Mets fan on my block in the Bronx but you'll still see them in the Bronx although its nothing like the amount of Yankees fans there. I honestly can say living there, I didnt see any yankee fans boasting yankee pride til post 96' After that I noticed people in my neighborhood putting yankee banners, flags, and sticker decals on windows, cars, stores, and other small businesses in the area.

@xhemexx People always say that, but even without Buckner's error the game would have headed to the 11th inning tied and with all the momentum on the Mets side. The game was already tied; it's not like if Buckner makes the play the game is over.

No way; we're too banged up to trade, nobody would want to trade with us, because anyone we'd part with is on the disabled list.
Besides, I REALLY like Daniel Murphy at first base. Young, he has a good swing, is already a solid .280+ slap hitter, and is decent defending.
Young, already solid, and with the potential to develop, I like Murphy a lot.
If they keep Ramon Martinez at second and Murphy at 1st-
Wright, Reyes, Martinez, Murphy- all young and talented, improving together.....
