Please note: The rotating pencil lead only works if you use this mechanical pencil for writing. If, like me, you use mechanical pencils for drawing, then the pencil lead will still wear down along one edge, as the lead only rotates after several pencil strokes. Quite a few reviews from artists have shown that you will still form a flattened edge on the pencil lead if you use this mechanical pencil for shading and drawing.

These pencils are especially effective when writing languages based around characters (like Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). This is because while writing these languages, you need to pick up the pencil a lot more than writing something like English, where you can write whole words without picking it up once, especially in cursive. Since you're picking up the lead at least once per character or even multiple times per character, the kuru toga engine keeps the lead sharp.

I have one of these and if you need it for writing (cursive, without picking up the pencil from the paper every line that you draw) or technical drawings (where you draw a lot of longer lines), it doesn't rotate the lead quick enough to make a difference. You still need to rotate by hand.
It only works if you draw a lot of small lines and thus pick up and press on the lead often which makes the lead rotate by a tiny angle every time.
For example, when you write Japanese or Chinese characters. But for nothing else so much.

I hate that this got so popular and glad at the same time. This was one of the only pencils i started using since i started my degree in engineering at uni. Damn it was nice gate keeping this , it was also a very nice conversation starter especially with people that do architectures or technical drawings

The upgraded version of it is the best mechanical pencil I've ever gotten. It's the Uni Alpha Gel Switch version, where you get an ever nicer grip, and you can turn the gear on and off.

Bruh lead is just the common word that everyone uses. You're not gonna catch anyone saying graphite on a normal daily basis.

Quick tip: Never use this for art, as for some reason, the automatic lead refill works best when you use it for writing.

It's a great mechanical pencil, but my personal favourite is the tombow Mono mechanical pencil. Idk why but it's so comfortable drawing with it. It's the pencil you see a lot of anime characters use when they're supposed to be artists, and now I know why

There has been japanese inspired products I have bought recently, there's a mechanical pencil by zebra called "del guard type ER" and it prevents lead jams as in doesn't have that little bit of lead that prevents more from coming out, and when you flip the mechanical pencil it automatically extends the eraser and locks it and retracts back in once you go back to writing.

I have one of these but my opinion is split quite a bit. Before, I had one that automatically pushed out the front when it got too short. This one doesnt do that, so I still have to press manually for the mine to extent. Wish there'd be a combination of the two I knew off

As a dinosaur who did mechanical drafting many years ago, we were taught to "roll" our pencils as we were drawing to maintain a line consistent in thickness.
