These pencils are especially effective when writing languages based around characters (like Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). This is because while writing these languages, you need to pick up the pencil a lot more than writing something like English, where you can write whole words without picking it up once, especially in cursive. Since you're picking up the lead at least once per character or even multiple times per character, the kuru toga engine keeps the lead sharp.
Just realised why these didn't work for me at all (bought several all excited at the promise of a forever sharp tip 😄) & I soon revert back to my trusty pilot supergrips. I mainly write in Swedish & English, always in cursive, so I rarely pick up my pen. As I am now learning Hangul I suddenly have a use for them aigain 🥳 💃💃💃
Bought one recently, didn’t like the feel while cursive writing. One more problem I faced was that the tip shape wsnt consistent and found my self rotating the pen to get a consistent tip. Probably because of cursive writing
Stopped using my delguard in favor of the kuru toga, once you’ve used it for writing you’re guaranteed to never switch to a pencil without it, it is just that convenient and eliminates that one thing I used to hate about pencils.
It sounds amazing but I also like how you can use the flatter end to create soft sketches while doing finishing touches with the sharp end after it’s been made ultra sharp with use
You could keep a regulal mechanical pen handy so you can use the flat end when you need it. Kinda like having multiple brushes for different painting techniques.
I love kuru toga pencils. I've had the same one for years and they always write excellently. I have a 0.5mm so it writes extra fine. the only problem with most of the kuru togas is that the eraser is tiny and you basically need to either stock up on replacements or get used to a seperate eraser. I love the erasers that are long and you click them out as you use them.
If you haven't brought it yet. Do buy it. It's great buy a metal one for better usage and for long lasting use it's the best now my sketches doesnt become shabby. Do recommended
I have one and i like it a lot, its my favorite pencil. There are also plastic versions with characters on them like sanrio, snoopy, disney etc (i have a sanrio cinnamonroll version). I have used it for nearly 2 years.
I have one of these from our Japanese 'family' (my mom went to Japan as an exchange student when she was in highschool and her parents housed exchange students and traveled to Japan constantly)
I know everyone loves the GraphGear but I have a huge collection of Kuru Togas, and they are the BEST pencils ever. The Ghibli ones are my favorite but they’re all amazing. I couldn’t draw the same without them.
