I really love the way you colored the background and how you did their expressions. Ody was really, "Wait, I can get out of here? Yes!" "I love you" (but with disdain and slight fear in there cuz Calypso might do something again). The fast transition in when she was spending years alone then a a shooting star appearing was really nice. Really sets the "I thought for sure that you were my dream come true." And the vines holding Ody back was just wow.
I really don’t interpret the line "I love you" as Odysseus forgiving her. I’ve always seen him saying it just so he can leave. I believe Calypso can be sad, and Odysseus can choose not to forgive her-that’s the approach I went with. I’m glad the scene came across to you!🥺💕 thanks for watching!
The sequence of time passing during “alone for a hundred years” is really pretty, and the lighting when she first discovers him is beautiful! I really like the flashbacks you had playing behind them. I LOVED the way you had him step back a little, even as he says “I love you”… the vines growing around them and then wrapping around him as she gets more agitated. Animatics of this song are always so interesting, and you’ve done amazing work!
I'm so glad you like the scene where they first met! It's my favorite scene to draw as well. I wanted to make the viewers feel like they’re in the scene with Calypso, experiencing what she saw in that moment. It’s the day her dream came true-everything seemed so beautiful and sparkling. The flashback scene is also one of my favorites. We're still seeing things from Calypso's perspective in the past: from the first time they met, to getting to know each other, and then to the rejection. As for the step back and the vines, I think they’re actually the most important part of the animatic! I wanted to show how Calypso is pressuring Odysseus (even if she didn’t mean to), with the vines becoming more aggressive, leaving him no choice but to say what she wants to hear. At the same time, we can still see Odysseus’s anger and how he’s just trying to leave. That’s how I’ve always interpreted the scene after hearing the song. And thank you so much for your comments! This animatic was so beautiful! The character design for Calypso is very pretty, and both of their expressions were top notch (it made me so sad seeing Ody crying at the beginning ;-;). Great job for your first animatic ever, looking forward to your next project :) ❤
