- Set in a dystopian future in Kansai, the story follows a young woman who accidentally becomes a criminal known as Akudama who are pursued by the government, though she decides to take a fake identity, Swindler, in order to survive after meeting Courier.

The root cause of the story, is two things:
1. A cat
2. A coin that dropped and is said to have bad luck
A *black* cat
that a lot of bad luck

This show is really slept on. The characters all have such engaging personalities, where the show makes you empathize with all of them, then suddenly slaps you and makes you hate them; only to make you hate the system and pray for any of them to make it through.
One of the reasons I don't watch anime anymore.
Good anime only have 13-25 episodes and rarely if ever get a second season or a movie to wrap everything up with a bow.

Its a great anime tho not gonna lie.
The "justice" (legal) system of America IS like this, maybe not to that extent but when you can get decades in prison for possession of cannabis because of three strike laws which can be as stupid as first strike: you stole something to survive because America has shitty social services because they're not funded properly because that would require taxing the rich and the rich are more important to politicians because the rich pay politicians off through campaign donations and also because America's minimum wage is trash, second strike: you stole food because since you went to prison the first time there's no way you can get a job because jobs won't hire felons, third strike: you had some weed on you because you're just trying to relax in a country that actively hates you then yea, the legal system is absolute trash. I don’t know how it is elsewhere but the legal system here is dogwater.

Bro I am so glad you made this channel. I absolutely love anime. At this point I’ve probably seen over 2000 series throughout my entire life. Eventually it gets to the point where it’s hard to tell if something is worth watching, even based on reviews on mal, watching the first couple episodes, or especially previews/trailers. But this channel has added multiple series to my list. Good job and keep up the good work.

Akudama Drive is one of my all-time favorites. The whole thing is action packed and so fun, the mystery is cool. And that last episode just hits so fucking hard

I wished a coin had a few more seconds of attention, it threads through lives of courier and swindler both, interconnects their fates and unites them.
Swindler persuades courier not with just a 500 coin, but with THAT coin.
But nonetheless I'm glad to see this anime in your recaps collection. Thank you.

This was literally THE ANIME that solidified my love for the Cyberpunk/ Dystopian genres, Cyberpunk Edgerunner's popularity was the popularity that I wanted Akudama Drive to have😭😭

Don’t forget the anime called “Akame ga Kill” shows a male character that we thought to be the protagonist just to show a organization assassin at the people who thought the male character to be kind peoples. Its kinda like that anime.

He was protecting Swindler times after times and basically sacrifice himself to save her (went insane)
No, it's like the tokyo ghoul guy that wanted to eat kaneki, or Hisoka from hxh. He wasn't saving her because he was a good guy, but because he wanted her to grow and be a better kill (blood halo mentioned in the video)

The red halo was his growing love for her, he just didn't know the difference between love and murder.
He protected her because he wanted to be the one to kill her, waiting until her death would give him the most satisfaction.

In the end I really wonder what city the kids went to as I could not keep up with where they wanted to go. I also wonder how their lives and the lives of the citizens of the one city go on after all that has happened.
It kinda has the same plot like Akame Ga Kill which side characters survive while most main characters died.
Highly recommend.
Probably one of the most memorable ones out there if you end up marathoning it.
Every character you gradually fall in love with, just like Danganronpa.
Damn I didn't realize this show was that deep I dropped it after they found the children when it was airing. I regret it gonna go binge on it from ep 1 again.

I've been looking for this anime for a while but I forgot the name and honestly even the premise I just knew that I really wanted to see it cause it seemed amazing when I first found it. The only reason I never actually saw it was cause I hate watching graphic stuff like this censored. So I decided to wait but then completely forgot about it for a while until one day I was like "crap what was that anime I was waiting for" now I've found it completely by accident thanks to you
